Eh it's okay, but they even kinda fucked that up, that's like a gladiator/Roman soldier style helmet, not a knight's.

I personally think it's too simple.

How long until they shorten it to just "Knights"?

Definitely should have just been Knights. Nearly every single person will drop the "Golden" when talking about them anyway.

I don't get the dropping of the Las....I mean next up the York Rangers? Golden Knights is eh to me. I know they had to put a name in front of the Knights so I think Black Knights just sounds better. The logo I agree is like a team I'd create on NHL 2001.

Followed quickly by the Angeles Dodgers. I agree the whole thing seems a bit amateur hour. But I expect nothing less from Bettman's NHL. Next they will host the Winter Classic in Vegas.

The whole thing is just SO NHL.

This snippet from the Deadspin article on it is worth reading:

Quote:

They were always going to be some form of knights. Owner Bill Foley, a West Point grad, tried and failed to get the use of “Black Knights,” and just plain “Knights” was off the table too because of the OHL’s London Knights.

What’s so good about knights?

“The Knights are the epitome of the warrior class,” Foley said. “They’re team-oriented, they always stick together, they never give up, they never give in. And hockey players are warriors. They’ve always been team players, all for one. That’s us. That’s what we’ll be.”

Easy there, Bill. It’s a hockey team, there to make you money.

The adjective remained up in the air, but Foley had favored Golden Knights all along and settled on it as early as August, when he trademarked it (along with a couple similar names to provide cover).

“Silver Knights was an option because this is the Silver State, but Nevada is the largest gold producer in the country,” Foley said. “Gold is a precious metal, the No. 1 metal versus silver. I didn’t feel Desert Knights had character to it.”
(Foley admitted that the runners-up included Nighthawks, Desert Hawks, and Sidewinders, and damn, “Nighthawks” would have been an actually good name I think.)

“Golden Knights,” however, is bad. Too bland to be respectable, not whimsical enough to be memorable. As a general rule of thumb, adjectives are minor league. “Rays” is so much better than “Devil Rays,” and “Ducks” infinitely preferable to “Mighty Ducks.” Trademark issues obviously stand in the way, but I can see a future where they drop the “Golden” and everyone is better off for it.

Foley said he was conscious of the name being too long, and he addressed that by dropping the “Las” from the official team name. This is, simply, Vegas. They play in Vegas. They’re the Vegas Golden Knights.

“The local people refer to Vegas, not Las Vegas,” he said. “The people from out of town refer to, ‘Las Vegas.’ It’s, ‘Where are you from?’ ‘Oh, I’m from Vegas.’

“I thought Las Vegas Golden Knights, four words, too much. Three words is kind of the limit.”

Thanks for sharing that.

Nighthawks would have been much better. But even then I hate using similar names to existing teams (ala Blackhawks).

Seriously, something like Aces, Dealers, Scorpions, Rattlesnakes, Vulchers, Bobcats etc.

Even something as simple as "Vegas Gold" would have been miles better.

Between work and recreation, I actually get to Vegas 3-4 a year. But yeah, it's generally no more than a couple nights at most. I get bored fast...not much there for me. :lol

I'll definitely take the wives. They are on a rotating schedule for who gets to go with me each time. Half and half. Half go with me, half stay at the compound to care for the children and livestock.

And I'm more of a Mirage guy. Man - I'm just thinking about what Kessel and I could do to that place...

Agreed, we don't need another team IMO nor does LV (as claimed by the owners) need more tourism. The logo is amateur and the team name is terrible.

The only way I would want to see another team is if they brought the Whalers back to Hartford, their uniforms were solid, the logo was one of the best in the NHL and they have a built in fanbase - who admittedly could not support the team 20 years ago but CT is a tough market being so close to both Boston and NY/NJ.

Yeah, I know and it does suck. Not helping that it is easy driving distance to see the Bruins, Rangers, Islanders or Devils too so I know why a lot of my friends cheered for them over the Whalers. Tough spot geographically to support a sports team, just too much competition.

The irony is that companies selling Whaler merchandise are making a killing all over the nation, not just in CT. Hell if you fly into bradley airport (Hartford) you will see everything whaler themed at the gift shops - jersey's, hats, shot glasses, pint glasses, framed photo's, signed memorabilia, etc, etc.

Yeah, it is pretty amazing. One incident in my past made me realize just how well known the Whalers are. I was walking out of Red Rocks (DMB, night 1 2005) wearing a Whalers hoodie, someone saw it and began a chant and within about 30 seconds the whole damn place was chanting along - out in CO no less! It was pretty damn cool. :)

I had always wondered and dreaded what would happen if that were the case. But in 2014 I was all in with the Kings. I was sad to see the Rangers lose but ecstatic to see the Kings win.

But, let's be real. If Dustin becomes a Golden Knight I'll be rooting for them just as hard. *vomits*

EDIT: actually, maybe not. I dunno. Moving to LA really propelled my Kings fandom. Being at a ton of games, meeting players, staff members, etc. It all sucked me in and had me fall in love with the team. I can see myself still being a Kings fan after Dustin. Probably not as big of a fan of whatever team he goes to next (if there is another).

I'll talk to them about it. I mean, I'm cool with it, but they are pretty devoted to this guy right here.

Wow super dirty hit by McDonough on Sheary

Loved Sid coming to his defense

NYR fans taking a page out of the Flyers fans playbook by caring more about Crosby than their own team.

Good stuff

I hope like hell Toews is not out for any extended period of time. He did not even take the ice in the second period. Then Kruger gets cheapshotted by wingles and is going through concussion protocols. So the Hawks are without their number 1 and 3 centers needing a goal in t he third to tie the game.

Lcsulla 11-23-2016 09:43 PM

Re: The NHL Thread (lolcaps)

Kruger passed with flying colors and was back for the third, still couldn't tie it though. Absolutely no update on Toews condition. :(

Just saw those highlights. Great to see Sid sticking up for him.

Chasing Lundqvist from games fills me with so much joy. I love watching him throw a hissy fit like a 6 year old on the ice.

So many smart hockey people, full of cred
There's Pens fans and Flyer fans
Some Hawks fans too
An Avs fan, a Wings fan
And one who can't decide between black and blue
But even if we all like different teams
On one thing we can all agree
Ovie best, banners best
The best team plays in DC :D

Happy thanksgiving y'all (sorry if I missed anyone)

Re: The NHL Thread (lolcaps)

The More I watch the Leafs the more excited I get by them. Anderson seems to have sorted out his swiss cheese issues from earlier in the season and the young kids are SO GOOD. If they can find a top pairing D-man, a guy that can comfortably eat up 25 minutes a night, they'll be alright. The team has a lot of growing to do, but the talent on this roster went from worst in the league, to through the roof in a season. They're at the 20 point mark (Which is there they needed to be 20 games through the season) and as they grow this year they could start to put together some wins. Going from dead last to a bubble team is a huge accomplishment for them.

I imagine the defender (Barrie i think) having a thought process like:
-Oh damn, here he comes.
-no, ok i'm good, i'll get this guy instead
-Shit, rebound, no it's ok it's behind the net everything is ..
-SHIT!

Bo, you do realize the Rangers are one of the best teams in the conference while the Flyers are a young rebuilding team, right?

Has nothing to do with Blackhawks, so no. I do now, though!

Rangers look damn solid so far. Yeah, they collapsed against Pittsburgh but plenty of teams do that. I like the Rangers a lot so when the Hawks are not on I usually just tune them in.

Hawk's getting not so great news for tonight's game - Toews definitely out and Keith did not skate today and is listed as questionable - no reason given.

Hahaha! I got a nice laugh out of watching the spanish commentator highlights of the Raiders/Texans game last week. Was almost as passionate as they get for soccer!

Re: The NHL Thread (lolcaps)

I am thankful for this thread,
so many things have been said,
from Brohan and 19! !19 19!,
to when the Flyers play like vaseline.
But as we celebrate turkeys and beer,
and when Sarah determines which team to cheer,
Matty marries another broad,
while Brohan continues to be a fraud,
our love of Kessel still remains true,
because he's all red, white, and blue.
Then there are the people from Pittsburgh,
who are definitely this thread's blister,
because most of them end up kissing their sister.
They huff and puff about the Penns and their stupid captain,
who just so happens,
kills the Flyers and forces fans to drink Manhattans.
Then there's Barbs from D.C.,
whose Caps are to the lowest degree,
having zero Stanley Cup champions.
But do not fret, young Barbs,
despite your team being a bunch of rhubarbs,
you at least have manners,
all the while staring,
at your beautiful President Trophy banners.

But most of all this thread,
is nowhere near other threads,
as no discussion ends with a thermonuclear warhead.
We are sharp, funny, and loving,
forgiving, stunning, and know nothings,
case in point, this nitwit,
Jamie Benn is not a center, you freakin' idiot.

Re: The NHL Thread (lolcaps)

Sometimes watching the news just plain sucks,
When that happens my spirits are restored by hockey pucks!
Does not matter whether it is the Oilers, Sharks, Rangers or Hawks,
it sure as shit beats an article from VOX.

Sure we all cheer for different teams but that is no shock,
we respect each other in here and this thread rocks!
With all the young talent dynamic and fast,
all of us know the amazing play will last.
From Ghost to Laine to McDavid to Matthews to Panarin,
It is pretty safe to say we are all in!

I hope Barbs someday gets to see his Caps win a cup,
and that Sarah will figure out which flag to put up!
While I am not a Flyers fan I understand their pain,
believe me, before 2010 I cheered for Hartford or Chicago and their play was a stain!

Hope you all are well and recovering from alcohol and turkey,
get ready for tonight and some more games which will be filling (not much rhymes with turkey!)
Lastly, I respect you all,
except for anyone who thinks Jamie Benn is a center - idiots all!

Not a fan of these Pens gold stadium series jerseys

If they wanted to do gold they shouldve just used the old gold alternates, I would've definitely got one
