Jamie Benn signs 8-year/$76 million extension with the Stars. That would be accurate if Jamie Benn was a center. Idiot! |

Re: The NHL Thread
Lightning sign Alex Killorn to a 7 year deal, $4.45 million per year. He was phenomenal in the playoffs and is really an underrated part of the team. 7 years is a long commitment but the money isn't egregious by any means for a 26 year old who seems to be just emerging into the player he can be.

So my Gilford N2 was arguably the best of the tour for what, 3 days. :D
Ridiculous set last night. Told my wife I think we need to go back to spac in 2018, though only time we went, we got a shake me closer. |

God damn, Kev were you at SPAC N2?

Keith/TVR Seabrook/Hjarlmasson Campbell/Svedberg add in Rozsival and Ehrhoff for injuries, spot situations and filling in if someone ends up on the injured reserve list and I am pretty confident with the Hawks D. No real concerns about their offense at all but I am really hoping Crawford can start avoiding his periodic brainfarts in net! |
Re: The NHL Thread
Quote:
1) Ehrhoff was resigned by the Hawks 2) Svedberg plays in the NHL for more than 10-20 games (mostly for injury fill in) 3) Campbell plays on the bottom pair 4) Kempny isn't on the opening day roster It'll likely be more like this - Keith - Hjalmarsson Campbell - Seabrook Kempny - TVR Roszival With Pokka and Svedberg being call-ups if needed. |

If Kilorn gets 4.5 what is Kuch gonna get and Johnson next year?
|
Re: The NHL Thread
Quote:
Unsure about Kempny to be honest, Hawks have a deep D so he may not be on the opening day roster. I agree Campbell should be on the first or second D pairing but I think given his status as a vet having him on a line with young guys like Svedberg or TVR would be very beneficial to their development. Regardless though - Keith is going to anchor the first pairing and Seabrook will anchor the second pairing (and BOTH will likely be on the ice together during PP's) regardless of who they are paired with. |
Re: The NHL Thread
Kempny will almost certainly be on the opening day roster. Dude was a KHL stud, came over here with the expectation he plays in the NHL, not the AHL. I'm guessing he was all but guaranteed a spot on the roster when he signed kind of like Panarin was.
He's going to be really good. |

I still maintain that my personal preference was N1. But both were VERY good and couldn't go wrong. There were songs in N1 that I enjoy and haven't heard in awhile that push over the top for me. First three songs in N2 were just amazing, even though Last Stop was kind of a mess for the first 5 minutes. And I just don't hold Two Step and Halloween in the same regard as others so it doesn't push it past N1 for me. Missing Jimi though was really a win for everyone there and the world. |

10.5*7 = 73,500,000 - 1561875 = $71,938,125 8.5*8 = 68,000,000 Math for reference - 10,500,000*.0425=$446,250/2(home games in Michigan)=223,125*8(years)=$1,561,875 |
Re: The NHL Thread
So for consistency's sake, if we look at a "per year" basis -
10.5*7 = 71,938,125 = 10,276,875 per year 8.5*7 (with no state income for FLA home games) = 59,500,000 = still 8.5 per year...so another 1.77m per year I have no idea where you read that 500k number, but it's not right. |

That's including all taxes federal and state. 10.5mil per year in Detroit after all taxes: 5.6mi per year for 7 years= 39.2mil 8.5mil per year in TB: 5.1mil per year for 8 years=40.8mil. So even though his cap hit would be higher in Detroit, he's making more in Tampa at a lower cap hit. |

I prefer Kucherov to Johnson, I just think he's a better player. He'll probably be asking for 6-7 range. If we can lock him up for 6x6.5 or something like that I'd be happy. They've got about 8.5 of space left right now after the Killorn deal. Palat and Drouin are also RFA in 17-18 with Johnson. We have $19 million in projected space. Johnson would get more than Palat, close to what Killorn signs for. Palat probably 5-5.5 million. I'm not so sure of what type of offer Drouin would be looking at. I trust in Yzerman to know which guys he can keep and who may have to walk or get moved. |

Interesting trade, Rangers sending Brassard to OTT for Zibenejad.
http://nhl.nbcsports.com/2016/07/18/...for-zibanejad/ Brassard quietly had a great last season for the Rags (I only noticed because he was on my fantasy team), so that's a solid pickup for the Sens. However, Zibenejad is rounding out into a really solid player as well and is a bit younger. |

Re: The NHL Thread

I'll be honest, I haven't even thought about it until right now, but the possibility of him coming to the Avs is slightly intriguing. I love Varly, but I think if Pickard continues to develop, he's our guy of the future. But still, we could use an established vet for another couple seasons probably. Would be kinda cool to trade Varly and a prospect to NYR for Hank, have Hank start for a couple seasons in COL and be a good example for Pickard, and then Pickard take the reigns. Two concerns: Money, which isn't all that bad if we move Varly and have Iggy come off the books. And time. Hank is still at an age where he COULD potentially have 4-5 years left in him. In most scenarios, that would be a GOOD thing; in the one I outlined above, that's almost TOO much time, you know? I would think Pickard would be ready to start in 2 seasons... and I'd hate to have an $8 million (or whatever his salary is) whale sitting on the bench. |
Re: The NHL Thread
5 more years of him at 8.5mil is a lot and most of it is actually salary. Hard for a team to take that on when it's not just cap hit. I'd say he could retire early but he's still making $7mil in his 2nd to last year. He's not leaving that on the table.

But short version - maybe that's where Nashville makes the most sense? Team is ready to contend for the Cup now, and Hank is a clear upgrade over Rinne. If they move Fiala to join Zibenejad in NY, the Rags have some solid building blocks for the future without having to go through the hard "overhaul" stage, still have a solid goaltender, get some money off the books in the future, etc. If Nashville retains a couple mil for Rinne, then they REALLY have some money off the books, and meanwhile, Nashville (IMO) becomes the immediate favorite in the West. |

Re: The NHL Thread
Wow, Brad Richards retires. Thought he still might have something left in the tank, but looks like he's hanging up the skates.
Really nice career he had. Shame that he had to go through what he did in New York because of his salary. Never fault a guy for taking money when he can get it, but always sucks when the negative stuff that clearly comes with higher expectations surrounding salary ends up dragging someone down. Stick tap to Brad on a nice career. Edit: Looks like he turned down a "good offer from a good team" and opted for retirement. Good for him. https://twitter.com/DarrenDreger/sta...51807562211328 |

I don't even care if the Rangers suck this year. I just want hockey to watch again. July is the worst month as a hockey fan because there is nothing to be excited about. The draft and free agent signings are over and we are still months away from camps...

Re: The NHL Thread
Yeah. Sorry Timmy. Was rooting for ya. Hell of an encore though. My 1st and 3rd favorite DMB songs. I would have left happy. Didn't get either of those at SPAC.

Re: The NHL Thread
My favorite part of the offseason is knowing that it's July and the only defenseman the Avalanche have added are Fedor Tyutin and Patrick Wiercioch.
Awesome. |
Re: The NHL Thread
I'm just glad the Caps didn't panic and do anything stupid. Stay the course. Minor improvements is all that was needed. Plus they got Johannson done. Too bad they couldn't get a deal done with Mike Richards. That's my only disappointment thus far.

Re: The NHL Thread
We have a smaller group of people than most of the other commonly used sports threads, almost all of whom are knowledgeable of hockey and respectful. Yeah, we all cheer for our teams and occasionally blow off some steam (or debate the value of players - ie Kane vs Crosby for Hart) with a rant but for the most part any real malice is almost non-existent. I mean, how many other sports threads here have common congratulations posts when some team knocks out the team you cheer for and you congratulate them for a great series.
We would probably be even more civilized if Jamie Benn was actually a friggin center idiots! :lol |
