He tried to avoid him, but at the same time got his hands right in Miller's face.

It was nice to see the team actually stand up for Miller, at one point Miller, Gaustad, Tropp and Erhoff were all throwing punches at him at the same time. About damn time. Would've been fun to see Kassian on the ice for that.

And speaking of Kassian, kid has scoring touch too. Beautiful goal last night for a guy more known for his physicality than his scoring.

It was a reckless, out-of-control play, and I don't have a problem with the call either. But he really didn't have much chance there. I kind of also take issue with Miller whining about what Lucic did to him, and now he's repeatedly punching a guy who's head is pinned to the ice and is totally defenseless.

In regards to Miller punching Tootoo, I don't see how you can really blame him. This is a guy that just got back from a concussion caused by a skater barreling into him at full speed and the same thing happens again. The Sabres got lambasted for their weak response to the Lucic hit, what do you expect them to do in this situation?

:thumbsup:thumbsup I'm pretty pumped that Kassian is playing well. He is exactly the type of player the Sabres need.

Meh. I think it's more him being honest and telling it how he thinks it is rather than him whining. But that's probably just the Sabres fan in me. He's also been involved with the Sabres organization his entire career. I think he's a little frustrated he hasn't won a cup yet.

I wish every Hawks-Blues game could have that much bad blood. There's a rivalry that's a sleeping giant for sure. Miss the games between those two where the hate was glaring.

The thing I liked most about the Miller/Tootoo play was seeing the pile of Sabres jumping in after the play. Far cry from what happened after the Lucic incident.

Also, can't say Tootoo didn't mean to or not, but I loved seeing Miller let him have it.

The Leafs got dominated by the Bruins last night. It just goes to show you how far away they are from being a cup team. They're taking the right strides, but are leaps and bounds away from being a cup contending team.

Edit: I feel like I need to update this thread with Leafs info from time to time. I think I'm one of the very few Canadians who posts in here, and likely the only Leafs fan. Whether you folks wanna read it or not, it's gonna keep coming!

I have a feeling it will happen. I'm not a fan of the proposed reseeding of the final 4 cause what happens to the Campbell and Wales trophies? But that's another topic.

But you need 20 votes. The 4 division thing should have all 16 West teams on board. Sounds like Philly is on board with the Pens in their division which makes me think Pitt would be on board too. So that's 18. So they only need 2 more teams from the East to say ok. Will it be easier to get 20 for that alignment or for moving Detroit East, which by all accounts will happen if they stick to 6 divisions?

Along with that Phoenix is a huge question mark. Swapping Detroit (or Columbus) for Winnipeg might be the easiest but what if Phoenix ends up in Quebec City? Then Detroit or CBJ moves right back? A lot easier with the 4 regions or whatever to have a Phoenix moves East scenario if needed.

I don't see them pissing off Detroit and Illitch to move Columbus there. I'm biased of course but a team that's been doing this for 30 years with multiple playoff rounds played on the west coast or the Jackets who are a waste of space and only been doing this for 11 years. So seems like I should be happy regardless of the outcome. But for the NHL as a whole? I think the 4 division format is best. Levels the playing field in terms of travel. Gets Dallas out of the Pacific (that's just stupid), keeps Detroit in the West so in turn keeps Detroit and Chicago together, and the divisional playoff makes the travel fantastic for the western teams.

Exactly. A Dineen Whale jersey is at the top of my hockey wishlist.

Gord Dineen (Kevin's big bro) played for a long time with the Utah Grizzlies back in the day and is currently the only Grizzlies player with his number retired. I paid attention to Kevin because of him, and was never disappointed. Always a team player, whose on-ice attitude has translated extremely well to coaching.

Reading some of the tweets some governors think it's a simple swap of teams for the realignment. Again that surprises me. If the Coyotes go to Quebec or anywhere out east, Detroit or Columbus will be right back here. Plus a more balanced schedule is good for the NHL I think. I mean don't you want Crosby, Ovie and Stamkos going to Phoenix, Dallas etc every year? Same goes for having Detroit and Chicago go to Carolina, FLA, NYI, TBL etc. Could very well know by 9pm EST tonight.

So from what I'm reading it will be what HNIC reported on Saturday. Regions 1: NYR, NYI, NJD, WASH, PHL, PIT, CAR. Region 2: Boston, MON, TO, OTT, BUF, TBL, FLA. Region 3: Detroit, CBJ, CHI, NASH, STL, MINN, DAL, WPG. Region 4: CGY, EDM, VAN, COL, PHX, LA, SJ and ANH.

Rumor has it that every team will play at least one home-and-home with every other team in the league, and then the remaining games will all be intra-conference.

So for instance, the Sabres will play the 23 teams not in their conference twice each for a total of 46 games, and for the remaining 36 they'll play their conference foes 6x each (3 at home, and 3 away).

Not sure how it'll work for the teams with 8 in their conference though (22x2 = 44, and then how will you split up the remaining 38 games?)

He took tough knee on knee contact with kuntiz and skated off slowly.

The new conferences will be interesting, but I'm going to miss the extra couple of high-flying, fast-paced games between the Hawks and Sharks, Canucks, Kings, etc. every year. I'm never really a big fan of subdividing things further because if one conference is particularly stacked one year, it puts the teams in that conference at a severe disadvantage, whereas in the current system one division may be stacked, but that division could still theoretically have 4 teams in the playoffs.

You can say that Tim Thomas is a bigger NHL stud then Sidney right now, my friends.

Not a fan of the realignment. Sucks playing the panthers and lightning 6 times each and flyers and rangers only twice.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

The top four teams in each of the four conferences will make the playoffs. The first two rounds will be held within the conference. No. 1 vs. No. 4 / No. 2 vs. No. 3.

The format for the final two rounds won't be finalized and voted on until the spring, but is expected to go like this:

The four conference champions will be reseeded 1-4 based on regular season points and play No. 1 vs. No. 4 / No. 2 vs. No. 3 for the final two rounds. So you could face a "Western" team in the semis and then an "Eastern" team in the Stanley Cup Final.

bonzo48280 12-05-2011 06:55 PM

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

no more West and East. There are just 4 separate conferences. I like that.

dmbmuskie 12-05-2011 06:56 PM

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Two western teams playing for the Cup would be a ratings disaster. Keep the East vs West format.

Bob McKenzie

First two rounds of playoffs are strictly within conference -- 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3, winners face each other. Just like old Divisional format.

Hmmmmmm
