I think the Hawks could potentially be better this year, but whatever.

Yeah, they are awful. Nike is really screwing the pooch here. |

I'm traveling all next week for work and probably won't have a lot of time to manage it. Still haven't heard from Joe, so waterboy since you were the champ last year do you want to start one?
If not, I can start a new one when I get back. That is, unless we hear from Joseph soon. |

@ReidWilkins Eakins to me during intermission: "As I walked in the building, somebody explained to me that a blogger already knows who the captain is. That would be great if he could come share it with me."
Looks like the Oiler's Capt. may not be as yet chosen, of course Eakins could be blowing smoke up all our asses as well. |

Bits of news, neither very unexpected:
Kiprusoff officially retires Tavares gets the 'C' in NYI. With the type of player he's developing into, he will be a good leader in the NHL for a long time. |
Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread
I'm in for fantasy hockey. I have to regain some kind of pride after the blunder that lost me the finals last year.
Also, I'm terrified of the Blues this year. They're going to be fucking good. |

Hawks division is pretty bad this year. It's the Hawks & Blues and a bunch of mediocre to bad teams that are rebuilding...After the grueling shortened season Cup run, Hawks need to be generous with days off for guys like Seabrook, Keith, Rozi, Hossa, even Sharp. |

:lol :lol
That's a great tweet. Whatever. These deals are always just laughable now. As with many of these deals, they'll probably work out really well for the first half of the term. We're in a horrible contractual cycle right now. Ugh. The business end of it aside, I'm pumped that it's training camp week! I <3 hockey. And the Flyers have the potential to get back to the playoffs and that's all I'm asking for for this upcoming season. |
Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread
I guess this mean Alfie can wear #11 now for the Wings.
Just get me Oct. 2nd. I'm ready for some real hockey. |
Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread
Apparently Tim Thomas is near a decision.
It would be the funniest thing ever if it somehow ended up being with the Flyers. |

My Vote (not because I'm a Leaf fan) goes to Clarkson's 5.25 for 7 years. That shit be cray cray. |
Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread
I had dinner in Calgary on the same patio as Mike Vernon last night.

Clarkson's is pretty bad IMO. Mark Streit's is up there (money is fine, don't like 4 years)

Clarkson's is over priced. A nice player that anyone would like to have but over $5mil per? It's tough for me to really look at the cap hits anymore because when the cap goes up the max deals can go up. so if you sign a deal in 2008 7mil was top of the line player, still should be imo but ya know what I mean. Now the top players can get 12mil really. I guess if other teams are willing to pay it, it technically does make it market value. Quote:

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread
Read the 3 on 3 after the 4 on 4 was getting more support. Obviously not for this year but wonder if they'll look at it again during the year. We've talked about it 100 times now probably but still would like to try and eliminate the number of shootouts.

^ Yes. And that's good news for the Flyers. My first preference is to try out another youngin' in that spot. Second would be to sign Gagne for cheap. He'd probably take 1-2 year deal at small money if he doesn't get bites elsewhere.

Everyone can have whatever opinion they want but mine is that STL is coming off the rails this year. They'll make the playoffs but the Hawks are gonna coast through what is now a joke division.
A lot of people had STL winning the cup last year, I had them nowhere near it. The Hawks are gonna roll that division. |
Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread
I think they're better than most people think.
If Bobrovsky is at least 80% of what he was last year they'll make a run. |

I love the addition of Horton for immediate contention, and Gaborik is well...Gaborik. They have one of the most underrated blue lines in the NHL, and BOBROVSKY! #1 COP ON THE FORCE! is obviously great for them between the pipes. It's not that I don't think they will be competitive, I just think it's really tough to make the playoffs in the East, and some good teams will end up on the outside looking in. |

Depending on how he plays, Hemsky could certainly have some trade value. Smyth on the other hand....he'll play out this year with the Oilers and retire as one. I don't see that going any other way to be honest. |

Pietrangelo is a top 5 defenseman in this league. If not, he's damn close to it. Great deal for them.
The Blues blue (lol) line is fucking scary good. One of the (and possibly the #1) best in the league. Pietrangelo, Shattenkirk, Bouwmeester, Jackman, Polak...that's fucking good. Could you imagine the Oiler's forwards with the Blues defenseman? If Halak can bounce back this year, and they get some scoring out of Backes, Oshie, Tarasenko, Steen, Roy, etc...fuck. |
Lots of "if's" and confidence in Jackman and Polak, which is great.
