Sorry, I meant to and forgot. Joe usually runs it, but he hasn't been 'round these parts much lately.

Joe? Paging Joe. Please start the fantasy hockey league immediately. Paging Joe.

If we don't hear anything from him soon we may just have to start another.

They were a bit unlucky last year...definitely could see them taking the division. But I'm ok with that as long as the Hawks can finish 2 or 3. Just don't want a first round matchup against that team. Would be a battle.

Hawks division is pretty bad this year. It's the Hawks & Blues and a bunch of mediocre to bad teams that are rebuilding...After the grueling shortened season Cup run, Hawks need to be generous with days off for guys like Seabrook, Keith, Rozi, Hossa, even Sharp.

That's a great tweet. Whatever. These deals are always just laughable now. As with many of these deals, they'll probably work out really well for the first half of the term. We're in a horrible contractual cycle right now. Ugh.

The business end of it aside, I'm pumped that it's training camp week! I <3 hockey. And the Flyers have the potential to get back to the playoffs and that's all I'm asking for for this upcoming season.

Yeah that one is bad. Same for Vinny. The years are a lot for a guy on the decline.

Clarkson's is over priced. A nice player that anyone would like to have but over $5mil per? It's tough for me to really look at the cap hits anymore because when the cap goes up the max deals can go up. so if you sign a deal in 2008 7mil was top of the line player, still should be imo but ya know what I mean. Now the top players can get 12mil really. I guess if other teams are willing to pay it, it technically does make it market value.

Read the 3 on 3 after the 4 on 4 was getting more support. Obviously not for this year but wonder if they'll look at it again during the year. We've talked about it 100 times now probably but still would like to try and eliminate the number of shootouts.

Disagree. Hybrid icing is the best compromise.

Injuries HAPPEN. It's hockey. Can't change every rule just to try and avoid injuries, or else we'll be playing Sarcastaball.

I think three teams from the Central make it. No more. Chicago, St. Louis, and Minnesota? Winnipeg? Dallas? Colorado? I don't know, but I don't see it being more than 3.

Which means 5 make it from the Pacific. LA, SJ, and Vancouver...let's call those the locks of that group. I think Anaheim slides back to reality a little bit with the 82 game season. I could certainly see Edmonton making a run at it. Phoenix doesn't have much going for them, and obviously Calgary doesn't either. I bet Edmonton makes it.

Everyone can have whatever opinion they want but mine is that STL is coming off the rails this year. They'll make the playoffs but the Hawks are gonna coast through what is now a joke division.

A lot of people had STL winning the cup last year, I had them nowhere near it. The Hawks are gonna roll that division.

Oh, I really like their squad. I think Dubinsky has a bounce back year, along with Umberger.

I love the addition of Horton for immediate contention, and Gaborik is well...Gaborik.

They have one of the most underrated blue lines in the NHL, and BOBROVSKY! #1 COP ON THE FORCE! is obviously great for them between the pipes.

It's not that I don't think they will be competitive, I just think it's really tough to make the playoffs in the East, and some good teams will end up on the outside looking in.

They are certainly not going "all out" quite yet, and easing in to it, but it's so awesome being able to watch them instead of ESPN garbage.

When I was in Columbus for work the past couple times, I always stop at the R Bar. Great little place. Really hope that succeeds in Columbus.

Yeah R Bar is fun. Have you ever been there during/after a game?

I haven't. Last time I was there during hockey season was the 22nd-24th of April...so they were on that road stretch and of course those were the 3 days they weren't playing. :thumbsdow

Somewhat related question fro you gents...

Curious is anyone is watching Fox Sports 1 these days, and what you think of Jay and Dan?

I watched a little the first morning they were on but that's it. Not that I'm watching ESPN either but with a 2.5 year old, if I have the tv on in the living room it sure isn't anything I want to watch.

That's a great value for Cleary. Detroit knew they held the advantage because he wanted to return.

Nice that it was not the 3 year deal they offered earlier this summer.

Now the biggest question who wears 11 for the Wings?

Tim, where are the Wings going to clear up cap room? They're way over right now.

Cleary will. I think I saw Alfie will be in 24.

I can certainly see the Blackhawks/Penguins parallels here though. I still maintain they need to trade Yakupov for a top 4 d-man....Also, Eberle will be the best player on this team long term - no doubt in my mind about that.

Yeah, I mean, they certainly have the talent at forward to draw parallels to the Hawks/Pens/Wings/etc., but that backend is where they need to develop. I don't know if they could trade Hemsky or Smyth at this trade deadline for high draft picks and/or blue line talent, but if they can, they should, and then draft some blue liners that are close to NHL ready.

No doubt we lack on the blue line, and to a lesser extent in net. I feel like Dubnyk has what it will take, but the proof will be in the pudding. Obviously a stronger blue line would help that.

Depending on how he plays, Hemsky could certainly have some trade value. It's no secret he was on the market over the summer but it sounds like they came to an agreement to keep him on the squad and he *seems* happy to be staying here.

Smyth on the other hand....he'll play out this year with the Oilers and retire as one. I don't see that going any other way to be honest.

Oh, and Pietrangelo has agreed to a 7-year contract with the Blues just now.

Yeah, just didn't know if they could Jagr the situation with Smyth and get something out of him by trading him to a Bruins/etc type contender and get SOMETHING for him.

There it is.

Watch out for this team. I haven't been a "believer" in them having a cup run in them until this year. They terrify me.

6.5 AAV for Pietrangelo. Not a bad deal at all for both sides.

bonzo48280 09-13-2013 12:40 PM

I'm the anti believer in STL for this thread.

bonzo48280 09-13-2013 12:41 PM

But Pietrangelo is a stud. Picked him up ASAP in GM connected.

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread

Pietrangelo is a top 5 defenseman in this league. If not, he's damn close to it. Great deal for them.

The Blues blue (lol) line is fucking scary good. One of the (and possibly the #1) best in the league. Pietrangelo, Shattenkirk, Bouwmeester, Jackman, Polak...that's fucking good. Could you imagine the Oiler's forwards with the Blues defenseman?

If Halak can bounce back this year, and they get some scoring out of Backes, Oshie, Tarasenko, Steen, Roy, etc...fuck.

bonzo48280 09-13-2013 01:30 PM

Lots of "if's" and confidence in Jackman and Polak, which is great.
