Rangers got a 3rd rounder and a minor leaguer according to Dreger. So Del Zotto could be in the deal for Nash? That's a really tough talent to give up but at the same time, it's Rick Nash and he pretty much gives NYR a legitimate Cup shot. And by legit I mean pretty much guaranteed to win the East :lol

Only Boston has a shot against them in a seven-game series.

dduncan6er 02-25-2012 11:24 AM

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

I think McDonagh is more likely to be the one moved. But I still dont understand why they're making a blockbuster like this. They're the beat team in the East by a good margin. Why fix it if it isn't broken? Not to mention they'll have about $22 million tied up on 3 players for the next few years. Good luck re-signing these young D-men when the time comes.

Pittsburgh gives us fits. And I think the devils are dangerous too.

If had to choose between mcdonagh and del zotto, I'm trading del zotto.

Really? I really like who DZ has become as a player, he's really grown and has shined alongside some spectacular D-men. McDonagh doesn't impress me as much, I guess.

Well, I think the upside is del zotto. He's a better puck handler and can carry from one end to the other well, but to me, mcdonagh is the more consistent player shift in and shift out. I think he's constantly aware of his side of the ice and doesn't get caught deep and is more willing to block a shot/get physical on d.

That's just what i see though.

I would part with him if the rest of the deal was acceptable. He hasn't lived up to last year and I think his ceiling isn't much higher than last season's play. I like him because he's tough and grinds all game, but his offensive skills leaves a bit to be desired.

Dubinsky is expendable, especially when you have a chance to land a premier goal scroer like Nash.

I've gone back and forth but I'm in favor of it. The last month they've looked flat. They have his it by stealing games, but the offensive consistency/PP are just not there.

I may eat these words, but as currently constructed, I don't think they will get out of the east.

The rangers HAVE to be playing 5 on 5 hockey to win. In the playoffs, PPs are too precious to consistently squander. Nash would help. And if they're only taking MDZ off their current roster, how does the move hurt their chances?

Trading for Nash is fine, but I think that it is a trade that needs to be done in the summer.

A guy like Nash needs a training camp, and exhibition games, to gel with a team he will be playing 20+ minutes a night for. He is immediately going to the first line, and it will take a little bit to find that chemistry with Richards, Stepan, Gaborik, etc.

I can see Roy returning to 70-80 points next season if he centered a line with Hossa and Sharp. That line would be dangerous.

I think with him being dangled out there, Bowman should do whatever it takes to get him here. If we seriously hit this deadline without Roy, I'm going to flip shit.

It is amazing how bad the Hawks were last night. Talk about your all-time most lifeless performances. It's unfortunate that they just do not come ready to play so often. Completely listless, everyone just horrible. And then when you consider the fact that they play like that in two straight games against two teams sitting just below you in the standings.

DMBCubs25 02-26-2012 01:33 PM

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

I just don't get why they have been so cautious in terms of dealing a prospect or pick for some proven help this deadline. Keep in mind someone like Kyle Beach was drafted at 13 and boy did that ever pan out. Prospects are hit and miss you never really know. I have my own theory and feel free to bash me over it but you kind of get the feeling that Stan is keeping all these picks and prospects that he has selected in hopes they pan out and lead to another cup. Most Hawk fans know the Cup team was put together by Dale not Stan. Now it's as if the new regime is doing whatever they can to put their stamp on this team and watch their players pan out. They might, they might not. But we do know that dealing someone like a Saad or McNeil could lead to Roy, Gaustad, Visnosky, etc. Not really sure what they are waiting for but at this point I'm not sure one move is going to save this team going for a hopeful postseason run, especially with a banged up Toews and Sharp and suspect goaltending.

It's funny I feel like I have seen that exact game last night several times this year. Actually they have had 12 games this year where they have lost by 3+. Last night though there was just ZERO jump from puck drop to the finish.

I'm right there with you. I don't understand this ridiculous desire to hold on to as many possible draft picks and prospects as you can. Yeah, obviously the more you have the better your chances are of some of them developing into something special, but we're seeing the ramifications of constantly planning for the future.

If guys DON'T work out (Ben Smith, Kyle Beach), you're left scrambling to make the playoffs every year in the NHL waiting for these guys to become something. I'm not a Cubs fan, but I'm starting to feel like one constantly waiting for "next year".

Everyone thought Ben Smith was going to be something after that playoff series with Vancouver. Clearly that didn't happen. Everyone thought Morin was going to play in the NHL this year, and he's still down in Rockford. Not saying Morin is done, but my point is we have all these guys we keep talking about, and none of them are really making the jump from the AHL to the NHL. Kruger maybe, but he was never really down in Rockford and he's still a year or two away.

Not to get TOO far in the future, but when Toews and Kane resign, they're obviously going to command more than the $6.3 they are being paid now. We're seeing guys like Sharp and Seabrook take more cap room now. Point being, our "core" is only getting more expensive. Everyone is wanting Hammer's $3.5 off the books, but once that is, we're in the last year of Kane and Toews being paid $6.3.

I guess the point of this rant that really has no central focus is...at some point we need to address NOW and not just wait for prospects and picks to develop. We have a couple years here. Look at Philly as an example. Making the moves to win the next couple years. That kind of attitude makes free agents want to come to the organization, knowing they have a chance at winning every year, and some guys will take a discount to play for you. It comes full circle.

Right, and I'm not buying into the notion that I have heard they don't want to take on any more salary past this year because of the uncertainty of the next CBA. Hard to believe that when EVERY team in the league is uncertain of what is going to happen but that hasn't stopped Philly, Detroit, and more than likely Vancouver from upgrading at the deadline. IMO it's going to send a terrible message to the team if they don't do anything by tomorrow afternoon.

Tough to tell but looked like it went off Cogliano's skate then off Emery's left pad and Cogliano's stick tapped it in. Didn't actually see the stick touch it but it would almost of had to the way that replay looked.

Take a look at the schedule the rest of the way, very good chance this team misses the playoffs completely. Hope Stan has a plan for tomorrow following 2 more heartless efforts this weekend.

DEREK ROY.

DEREK ROY!

Do it Stan. HE'S STILL BEING DANGLED OUT THERE! WHY HAVEN'T YOU DONE IT YET STAN?!

I'm assuming the asking price is crazy for Roy. I just read they want a 1st rounder for Gaustad so I don't even want to know what they want for Roy. :lol

Probably cause if Gaustad's price is reportedly a 1st rounder. So if that's what they want for him I'm guessing Roy's price is pretty steep too.

And you realize two tweets in like 10 seconds won't make it happen right? :lol

I'm sure Stan follows my twitter very closely. :lol

I would trade a 1st, 2nd and a prospect (i.e. Jeremy Morin) for Roy at this point.

The talk on Sportnet and now seen it on twitter, that the expiration of the cba could hurt today. Anyone think so? I don't. If Carter who had 30 years left on his deal gets moved and Nash is on the block I don't think the cba will hold up anything. I can see guys like this not being moved for that reason but guys who are UFA's or only got a year or two into the next cba who cares then?

God help GMGM today. Somehow he has to find a way to add without subtracting too much. I think they hold on to Semin, but they have to give him a center. Would be ideal to get gaustad and Grabo. Put backstrom on LTIR. I think knuble's tank is empty and though Hamrlik is not a player they should be. Trying to get rid of it looks as though he wants out. Both have salaries worth dumping to make improvements.

Have to get tougher on D. With mike green back in lineup I think the power play will start to improve (as long as Semin is not traded). Defense not tough enough. Have to address that: Subban ?

Just a deadline paranoia. Here's to keeping brooks, Semin, chimera, 8, and at least one of the first round picks while adding the right offensive talent.

God help you GMGM.. this is an important one.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

I can't see Subban going anywhere. He's going to be a hell of a player for a long time in Montreal. And Subban isn't the mind of guy you bring in to get tougher. He can throw some big hits but I'm not sure many would consider him tough.
