Ants Podcast Episode 27: Is This It?

With the latest news out of the DMB camp about 2011 plans (or lack thereof), the boys speculate on what it all means as the 2010 tour approaches.

Holy panic button! No offense guys, but I'm 15 minutes in, and you guys seem way too worried about all this. Most bands don't tour every year, and it doesn't affect their 'relevance' or anything... they can bounce back after a year off with little problem. Yeah, they might need to rehearse a bit more before the tour, yeah they might lose some of the touring crew, but Coran can get those guys placed in other tours, I'm sure.. and they'll be able to get great talent back whether its the original crew or not.

I think this break (and I agree with Jake, that it is a break for one year) will be good for them. It will make this tour and the 2012 tour more desired.

I'm just glad there won't be an Everday 10 year anniversary tour...

Stefan's response on Twitter to a question about touring in 2012:

@firedancergrrl not at all, 2012 will be like jumping into a bed with clean sheets as far as the band's playing will go

Yeah, things can change, but that doesn't sound like the band has left it open ended.. unless something big changes, it's on in 2012...

Re: Ants Podcast Episode 27: Is This It?

I lol'ed at the part about being scared if DMB will still be relevant in 2012... c'mon now... look at The Who (an example used in the Podcast)

The Who: "last tour before retiring" was in 1982... pulled a Brett Favre (tisk tisk, shame on them, How DARE they change their minds about a decision they made!!!) in 1989 for a "Tommy Tour" .. quit again .. pulled a Brett Favre AGAIN (now I'm gonna hate them and call them bad names because they changed their minds again about a decision just like MANY other people do) in 1996-1997 for a "Quadrophenia Tour" .. took 1998 off .. came back for a few shows in 1999. Had a normal tour in 2000. took 2001 off. normal tour in 2002 (directly after the best bassist of any type of music ever died) and put on a HELL of a tour. took 2003 off. shorter tour in 2004, took 2005 off. Toured strong in 2006 & 2007. did a few shows from 2008-2010. -- Personally, I like many aspects of their live performances better from the (2000-2010) time period than the (1965-1975) time period. I also feel the same way about DMB (2008-2010) compared to (1991-2000)

Was The Who still relevant in '89? '96? '99? '02? '06? and now in '10?? HELL YES! (Super Bowl halftime show, Roger doing solo tours, want to make new album and tour again)

So, back to my main point... Yes, DMB IS gonna come back in 2012 because they said they would (unless some freak thing occurs -> death of band member, etc.) && OF COURSE DMB is gonna still be relevant in 2012. I think there is a lot of over worrying going on around here... :S

Just listened, very entertaining guys, especially the plane story. Glad to hear Blossom is nice, it'll be my first time. Keep up the good work.

Re: Ants Podcast Episode 27: Is This It?

I think everyone is definitely thinking way too much into it. It says on Warehouse's website that they "look forward to returning to the road in 2012". With that statement, they've pretty much guaranteed a tour for 2012. I don't think they would lie to their fans.

Yes... Yes they would... They totally hate us... look at the shit setlists that they have been giving us... Look forward to another tour where 1/2 of the songs are Big Whiskey songs... a couple rarities played a couple times... the return of Can't Stop, Smooth Rider, and Angel... and then DMB will be history... We're gonna get f'ed over and you know it... next, management won't even sell any more Live Trax just to screw us over a second time.

Sorry, but now I have to go to bed and cry in my pillow all night long.

:rolleyes :rolleyes :rolleyes :rolleyes :rolleyes :rolleyes :rolleyes

Re: Ants Podcast Episode 27: Is This It?

I hate to say this....and I hope the younger fans dont take offense. Im fine if this is their last year, so to speak. You absolutely know that there will prob be "reunion" tours in the future, if thats the case. The reason why I wouldnt mind this being the last hurrah is that it would mean a great tour this summer. Im 29 now, been going to shows since I was 17. Had quite a run. I can be at peace with it ending. But......I see why younger fans would be more rattled by it. Especially the ones that came along during the mediocre at best 05-07 years. I saw the epic 98-00 years, and the resurgence these past 2 years. Im fine with whatever happens.
