for how long though? I mean I remember when sexy MF came back in 2009 and everyone was like "omg old school '93 outro." That was when people were sick of FWIW.

I understand that things can go stale, but I think many DMB fans rely on shock factor and variety way too much. And part of that is because of the bands identity crisis. They are a popular rock band that mixes up setlists, but not as much as jam bands. They mix it up just enough that fans get a glimpse at what they COULD BE, but never claimed to be. While it changes tour-to-tour, they always fall into patterns. They find openers/closers/segues that they play the hell out of. It's just crazy that some people take it personally, and are waiting for dmb to reach the level of potential that THEY (the fan) deemed possible.

Chop all the stuff I listed off the end of the song and it's suddenly 12-13 minutes instead of 18-20 minutes. And look at that! You can add another song to the set list! As much as I enjoyed Jimi Thing in Tampa (even with the dumb crap at the end), had they ended it after the jam, they wouldn't have had to cut STJL or DIDO. The show gets that much better with one or both of those songs in there.

True, but I was taking the entire year in account. Hopefully they add a bunch of plays overseas as well.

There are only 9 songs that have been played at every two-night stand this summer:

Best of What's Around
Typical Situation
What Would You Say
One Sweet World
Granny
You Might Die Trying
Black & Blue Bird
Virginia In The Rain
Belly Belly Nice

Sorry, didn't mean to contradict you. I honestly saw your post about STJL plays and just immediately posted what I did. Guess I should have scrolled down further. :freak

My one show this year (Pine Knob) was pretty underwhelming with bad weather...but WWYS with John Popper might be the coolest individual song I've ever seen live.

Can we will the band into giving us official word on the album..im thinking twitter trends, bombard all their social media outlets, planes flying messages. Anything.

most definitely, JTR is awesome, great song! but if it returns, hopefully they dont butcher it like they did camden n2 2013.......

here's a question - is camden n2 2013 the worst performance of JTR of all time?

What are you talking about? That performance was sick

Dave's voice is always a risk, but I wish they would just finish the 10 remaining concerts instead of taking almost a whole month off.

This tour has been fantastic. Great songs are being played a lot. The Lovely Ladies add a little something to every song they guest on

Halloween, Rapunzel, JTR, Grey Street, GGT, Last Stop, etc. etc. Is there any song that isn't a shell of its former self?

So Right
Two Step
Crash into Me
Satellite
The Stone
The Dreaming Tree
Pig
Typical Situation
The Best of What's Around
Lover Lay Down
Drive In Drive Out
Granny
Big Eyed Fish
Bartender
The Space Between
Grace Is Gone
You Never Know
and more...

The list of songs that are NOT a shell of their former selves is greater than the list of the songs that are.

To balance it out, the songs that I think are a shell of their former selves:

Don't Drink the Water
Grey Street
Jimi Thing
Halloween
Sugar Will
Good Good Time
Busted Stuff

I must be somewhat tone deaf. There are very few current renditions of songs where I actively think, "hey, that is not nearly as good as it used to be".

Certainly wish Grey Street was fuller. I don't even count the more recent GGT, as that is so lacking it seems to not be a real attempt. I certainly prefer the 2004 Sugar Will over the 2010 version. Other than those off the top of my head, can't think of others. I'm certainly not in the "everything is played too fast these days" camp. I'm even OK with current Jimi.

"ruined" is way overstating things, but they definitely are on the strong minus side of the ledger.
