I hope Nash goes to Boston or New York, so their cap is screwed and they have to give up players, and their depth is gone. That would be a great present for everyone in the Eastern Conference for all the teams still playoff bound.

I don't think Chiarelli is dumb enough to do it. The bruins have a ton of cap room but they have quite a few guys that they need to re-sign in the next couple years.

yeah, Sather hasn't been dumb in a few years. This would be perfect.

A "ton" of cap space is relative when you're paying a guy $7.8 million for the next half decade.

Obviously. The bruins have about $7 million in cap space at the moment. So they could take him on now. But I want no part of that contract. We'd have to let guys like Marchand and Seguin walk in a couple years because of him.

Just what I'm thinkin' at the moment. Sather is gonna screw this up somehow and I'm going to love it.

Please don't listen to these people Sather! So what if it took you twelve years to build a championship contender!!!

Do it Glen Sather, you NEED to make that deadline splash.

This :thumbsup. Besides Richards, there has not been many additions to the team. Sather built the team, but Torts taught them to play together.

He's gotta be up for the Adams trophy this year, along with I'm thinking Babcock and Trotz. I'm rooting for Trotz - dude definitely deserves it.

I don't see how you could skate a halfway decent team with him next year. There are reports the cap might even go DOWN. You'd have to dump a lot of salary. Yeah you could afford it for this season, but next? Depends on what Boston would give up I guess.

If Nash were to go to a contender, the only really obvious option seems to be Detroit. Plenty of cap space. Anyone else would really have to jettison some dudes to make room. Kenny Holland is pretty shrewd, though, not sure he'd be willing to give up what CBJ will ask for.

To stay in the division I'd guess a lot. The Wings could totally do this and even if the cap goes down a bit could probably handle the 6 years remaining too. Would love to see it but I don't see the Jackets keeping him in the division. The positive in giving up young prospects is you could sacrifice a young forward or two because you are getting a guy who will only be 28 this summer with 6 years left so you'd have to time to replace the young forwards and wouldn't have as much of a need with Nash coming in.

Yeah I'd assume Krejci would be moved and he's set to make 5.5 next year, so its just a difference of 2.3 million. But that 2.3 is important because of our upcoming FA's.

I'm taking a train in about an hour to go to the garden to see the Rangers vs. Blackhawks. Even though the hawks have been struggling as of late they're still a dangerous team, should be a good game. Noticed there are a lot of hawk fans in this thread so I wish you guys good luck tonight....but really Lets go Rangers!!

:thumbsup If anyone could pull it off, Holland could. And like you said, Nash is still young enough that young prospects they'd have to give up could still be replaced. Still, I would definitely see Filpulla being part of the deal along with who knows who else.

Nash is way overrated and overpaid. I'd be ok with seeing that $8 million contract in Detroit.

Maybe overpaid. Definitely not overrated.

Enjoy. Have fun at the garden, always a good time. I have a feeling the rangers lose tonight with biron in net, but I have nothing to base that feeling off of.

Yeah Datsyuk, Franzen, Nash. What a shit first line that would be.

I think he is. He's only put up 1 70 point season in his 9 year career. I'm not saying he's BAD, he's certainly a great player, but I think he's overrated (especially at 7.8 million).

:lol:lol I'm just trying to make myself feel better while you guys are talking about the possibility. Justifying it by knowing it would be one of the few ridiculous contracts the Red Wings would ever have. I mean, that line would be costing you guys about $20 million.

to be fair, he has never really had a true number 1 center or a lot of talent, for that matter, at all around him. Carter was supposed to be that guy and it hasn't happened.

Agree to disagree then, my friend. I feel he may be overpaid, yes. But doing what he's done for such a crappy team ain't bad. Plus the way he's rounded out his game over the past 3-4 seasons to become a jack-of-all-trades type guy (i.e. penalty kill). Plus, his natural skill set... which is about as dynamic as it comes. The guy can skate, he's big, and he has one of the top 5 wrist shots in the game. Simply lethal. I'd love to see what he could do with some linemates like Datsyuk and Franzen.

And although he hasn't done anything in the NHL playoffs, he proved during these last olympics that he can play on the big boy stage.

Obviously, I'm a Nash fan :lol

It would be one of the few "dumb" ones in terms of salary and length. Even when they throwing away money pre-lockout there wasn't any like that. The cap for next year is what would be the big ?. With Nash and minus Filppula for arguments sake, they would still have 19mil in cap space based off this years cap. They would still need to replace/re-sign Lidstrom but they could in theory pull it off. Will they? I don't think so. Would the Jackets send him 3 hours north up US-23? Probably not.

Well, that's for sure. Columbus is a death wish to anyone, and Nash obviously had a great Olympics and all, so I don't know.

I see Nash as a top 35-40 player, and he's being paid top 5 money. That's the point I guess I'm trying to make.

yeah, definitely agree with that they may have felt the need to overpay and keep him "happy".

Would love to see him on Tavares' wing, though we really need a top RW to pair with JT since Moulson is on the left.
