JRS1386 04-26-2014 09:54 PM

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread

Its new for most of them, Roy included. I think they will play more smoothly in further rounds (if they get there) and in years to come. Solid base the Avs have and they are a smart franchise so I see them sustaining this success for the foreseeable future

fonzz41 04-26-2014 10:03 PM

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread

I'm glad you feel that way, thanks. :thumbsup

I've mentioned before that the one thing the Avs are missing are some battle scars. Experience. There is some necessary adversity they still have to face.

But yes, the most encouraging thing is the solid foundation they've built. Varly, EJ, Barrie, Duchene, Gabe, MacKinnon, O'Reilly... Really smart team building.

coldengrey12 04-26-2014 10:06 PM

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread

I don't see them getting past the second round, but I also didn't figure they'd go from 29th in the league to winning a strong, new division in one year, so what do I know?

If we beat Minnesota, I'd rather see Chicago since we kinda had their number in the regular season.

Butt hurt fans looking for someone to hang. There were some mistakes made by Wings players here and there, but there were also plenty by Bruins too. Boston was simply a better team. Detroit fans should be incredibly proud of what their team was able to accomplish this year. Not just in the standings, but in the confidence and experience levels of some of the kids on the roster.

Honestly, this is GARBAGE. If you care about winning at all, how the fuck can you defend this shit??

Holmgren's ineptitude over the past 5 years has completely destroyed this team. It's no different than what Amaro has done to the Phillies, and Banner/Reid did to the Eagles. The difference is that the Eagles finally did the right thing and cleaned house, and Amaro doesn't have long. As long as Snider remains the Jerry Jones of the NHL we will never win. If you can't see that, wake up.

I haven't defended their play at all this game, you just come in here being a douche, so I am going to call you out on it. And what do you want the Flyers front office to do? They have a solid group of forwards and a serviceable goalie, all they need to do is improve the defense. What moves in the past 5 years do you consider destroying the team? If you say getting rid of Bobrovsky I will laugh in your face.

DMBzilla 04-27-2014 11:12 AM

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread

He got great value for Richards, then basically made an even swap for Carter, all the while ignoring the team's biggest needs at defense. While the offense has remained consistent the slow, lumbering defense has become more and more of a liability with each passing year (they handed NYR a goal twenty minutes ago). Letting JVR walk was a huge mistake. We won't know about the Bob trade until all the picks have developed but so far I'm not impressed.

And again, the Flyers are supposedly an elite franchise, but they never fucking win. In the past 25 years our biggest rivals have a combined 6 cups while we have nothing. But you think they're successful.

Yeah drives me nuts. About 20 things that made them lose. I'm kinda happy this nightmare season is over. The streak continues but they can get rest and health. A lot of positive stuff came out of the year though with the kids. Hope they can find a dman to strengthen that but other than that I'm OK with the team when they are healthy.

:lol Too true. Whatever it takes, I guess! Still though their lazy mistakes, stupid turnovers in the neutral zone, and inability to control any game for more than one or two periods have been infuriating me.

And still waiting for Sid and Geno to score. I actually chuckled when Gene Collier noted that Russell Crowe, who was in attendance last night, has as many goals as they do. "Are you not entertained?!"
