I don't like Cry Freedom...like Bottom 10-15 songs unlike. Happy for folks in WPB N2 that were loving it, but I really can't stand that one.

Holy shit, that's a take and a half of hot for me.

I remember when Crash came out and my wife & I listened to it a ton. But that first listen...totally pulled in by SMTS and soaking in everything to the last notes of PM.

The lowest point on Crash for me was and remains Crash Into Me...everything else "new" remains golden for my ears. I say new because Billies was merely an okay song for me on R2T and doesn't sound as good as the rest album to me (also, I know most of the 1st two albums weren't new, but from that insane first big batch of tunes Dave wrote). Having heard, but not fully registering Two Step before the album was released was cool and explained (in part) why that tune grabbed me so hard & quickly...the bigger being because it's awesome.

Not a critique of your opinion, just weird for me.

It actually helps sort why ED as an album fell flat for me. UtTaD was something grabbed our attention, but we didn't pounce on it. Once we were assimilated, we DID pounce on R2T, the Recently EP, Crash, BTCS, AND Everyday. Everything before pulled us in, sounding and feeling so natural and excellent. ED was a massive "WHAT!", but mainly because of the songs and how much they failed to feature the band or its strengths.

I respect everyone's take here...and knew it wouldn't be the norm (hence posting in this thread). I guess I don't like it because I find it "whiny" from a vocals perspective? I appreciate what the lyrics are getting across...but the signing is a lot of wailing/nasal sounds that I'm just not into. Hard to pinpoint but it just doesn't work for me. Best comparison (not saying it is a good one) is that I also don't like DYR, where the "Do Yoooooouuuuu Remember" is also like a whiny sound.

What probably makes me even weirder here is that I'd bet I'm in the 80-90th percentile on ranking songs as +1's or 0's compared to 0's and -1's. This one (although haven't heard it much) is a firm -1 along with DYR, Come Tomorrow, Shake Meh.

I guess this is an example of how different all of our takes / tastes are.

And despite this....Crash is my favorite album.

I like the After Her lyrics significantly more than Satellite.

(unpopular as dmb love songs seem to catch a fair amount of shade here?)

I like it because it's a modern day version of Last Stop, Minarets, Squirm. Kind of that middle eastern scale with political/humanitarian themes. To me its the lesser of all 4 of these, but a continuation of a theme. With the band consciously trying to move away from anything that sounds like DMB of old, I like they have a song like this continuing the thread.

It's a solid song and a breath of fresh air in sets this year for something that's going to get played all the time. I'll take it over say Seven.

I am with you. I've heard it live once. Happy I got to. But if it became a regular song people would start grumbling I think. It's just too slow for 40,000 people. To me songs like PFWYG, #40, Cry Freedom, Christmas song, etc. The crowd has to be just dialed in for me to enjoy it. I don't want to be in a room of 20,000 people talking over Cry Freedom or walking to the bathroom. It takes the joy away from it.

I'm also rarely listening to this song on my own. I probably hear it 3 to 5 times a year and I listen to DMB a LOT.

It's a nice song. Poetry, message, pretty, just kind of boring.

I feel the same about Walk Around The Moon. It doesn't do much for me.

But I REALLY dig The Only Thing. It's grown on me a lot.

MME has 36 plays since it’s debut on 11/5/21, while Minarets has 5 full band plays since that date.

I irrationally can't stand the song Everyday. LOATHE it! Will turn Sirius off, take a restroom break, or change the song when it comes on.

Can't quite put my finger on why, because I love #36.

It's because #36 was infinitely better and it got dumped for a far inferior song. I don't hate Everyday like you do, but I understand what you're going through.
