Good, I love the pressure being on NJ :lol

Happy opening day (in North America)!

Re: The NHL Thread

Igor Shesterkin rejects an 8-year $88 million dollar contract ($11 million/year) today offered by Chris Drury and the NY Rangers. Likely this was an opening offer in a series of offers coming in the next 2 days. My guess is Igor is asking $12 million/year and a full no trade clause. I would guess that NY will offer something like $11.5 million/year with a full no trade or $12 million/year with some trade options. I would guess that Shesterkin will reject those as well and eventually the Rangers will sign him to $12 or $12.5 million/year with a full no trade. The Rangers have no leverage in this situation. At this point, I would rather them just finish the deal and move on. We are going to have to get creative with cheaper contracts down the lineup.

Their starting 15 remains vastly unchanged from a capability perspective since Hank. And if he couldn’t do it….bad deal for Rangers.

I totally agree. I am in the camp of not overpaying for goaltending. I have said that for years. I am just acknowledging that this is a losing battle, and Igor is going to get paid, and it will (likely) be the Rangers that pay him. The Rangers don't have another option in net right now, so their hands are tied. Might as well just pay him and not let it linger.

The hope: Igor gets paid and is happy, Drury can cap manage and find cap friendly players and the cap goes up so that NY can still ice a competitive roster with cup intentions.

What I think will happen: Igor gets paid and is happy, NY is a good team but never wins a cup while he is playing. Cycle continues.

Right now I just don't think they have the talent and their defense doesn't look good.

Can’t ask for a better opening night in the road than that. Complete domination for basically 60 minutes and a shutout. I’ll take that start! Only one game though!

8-4 Vegas? Ouch. Avs should probably try putting a goaltender in net next time, sheesh

A 6-0 loss to start the season? Yeah, that's the good stuff right there.

Edmonton's start worked out for them nicely last year. All part of the plan?

I mean, they had to go on an historic winning streak to right the ship. MANY people forgetting that.

Continuing to patiently wait for the Flyers. They'll be the last team to start this season. 10pm EDT game at Vancouver on Friday night. I believe every other team will have played at least one game by then. (With TB and CAR also waiting until Friday before that Flyers game.)

Not a loss until money puck confirms it.

He looked like shit (by his high standards) for a good chunk of 23-24 until he came on strong post-All Star break

definitely a rough start, but a few silver linings at least.

1) they're not going to be this bad defensively/in net every game. they weren't great at either last year, but they still managed to be one of the best teams in the league.

2) the offense was there against a constant contender. mikko is already in midseason form and mack was an inch away from a goal off the post.

i read that early in the season last year ovie was struggling because 1) he was concerned about his wife and kid and 2) he was trying a new stick. the 2nd half of the season, his family worries were settled and he went back to his old stick. if he keeps the old twig and his personal life is good, i would think he would be closer to the 2nd half ovie from last year than the 1st half ovie.
