Here's something somewhat realistic I think we might see from the Blackhawks next season, assuming a $62.2 million cap like is being reported in some places:

You only feel Phoenix has a better chance to succeed because they've done better recently. If the Thrashers were any good they would draw more fans, better TV numbers etc.

We had a big arguement this weekend in my family about wheter Ruff should be fired. While he's been there a long time and never won he's overachieved for the most part. I think he does a nice job and has had bad injury luck in his career. I want to see him stick around - what does everyone else think?

Brad McCrimmon finally being fired by the Wings. Coached the PK and first year was 23rd, second year (last year) not terrible at 10th, and this year 17th and 13 out of 16 in the playoffs. They'll just say his contract was up but if he was good he would have been retained. See ya!

Lockman severely underestimated that in his capgeek roster he made on the last page.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
I didn't think Crawford would get this much higher than $2 mil, but anything under $3 I am able to deal with. Great to have him signed now. The Hawks have about $8 mil in cap space with 6-7 guys left. I think Hjalmarrson will be gone and we will bring in someone much cheaper to be Campbell's safety net (Sopel).

It's the whole where there is smoke there is fire. It's gotta be close.
Ken Campbell says it's between Atlanta Spirit and the NHL in terms of relocation fee and who gets how much money. http://www.thehockeynews.com/article...ipeg-move.html I also find it interesting that there was never any type of relocation fee when Hartford, Minnesota, Quebec and Winnipeg left but now there is. |
Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
so Atlanta to Winnepeg requires a $60 million relocation fee which goes towards the revenue which bumps the cap? Yes?

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
Alexander Salak gets new deal
The Chicago Blackhawks have signed goalie prospect Alexander Salak to a two-year deal worth about $600,000 per year, according to a source familiar with the situation. The Blackhawks have yet to make an official announcement regarding the deal. Salak, 24, was acquired in a trade with the Florida Panthers in February for Jack Skille and other prospects. The Hawks also acquired Michael Frolik in the trade. Salak made his NHL debut in 2009, appearing in two games for the Panthers. He was loaned to Färjestad BK of the Swedish Elite League for the 2010-11 season. The deal is a one-way contract, according to the source. It makes Salak the front runner to be Corey Crawford's back-up. Crawford signed a new three-year contract extension on Thursday. Salak's cap hit was $1.3, so now that frees up another $700k and gives a good estimation into who may be backing up Crawford for the next two years. I'm also fooling around with CapGeek right now, and I set the Cap at $62, even though I think it will go higher than that. Got rid of Hjalmarsson, brought in somebody for $1.5 mil (just used Sopel :lol), gave Campoli $1.7, Frolik $1.5, and Brouwer $1.2. That leaves me 20 players and I still have $4,931,966 in cap space. My point is that if the Cap goes higher than 62, which a lot of people are saying it will, and the Hawks can get rid of Hjalmarsson and bring in somebody cheaper to do his job (safety net for Campbell) then I think the Hawks can have a lot of space to sign a real good second line center or some wingers. |
Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
No one is going to take Hjalmarsson.

Obviously the lines are jumbled, but just an idea of players. Very, very possible, leaving us $2.35 in cap space to sign one forward. We're in no desperate need to get rid of cap space, and by the Crawford signing, I think Bowman has a decent idea of what the cap will look like next year. I'm not worried about shaving Hammer's deal, and would hate to see him go. I think he still has potential. |

Bowman loves the kid. As do I. He showed lots of promise in that Vancouver series, and just needs time to adjust. A good offseason with the guys will be good for him and his game. He's been said 100 times to be like Dave Bolland, which I love. He gets a lot done without really being noticed. For his cap hit, keep him up with the Hawks. |

The Preds would match almost anything. Wings have plenty of UFA options on D thankfully. Wouldn't mind getting rid of Hidler to free up some money and five the kids a shot. Would also give you a little money for an in-season trade if needed.

The defenseman out there aren't all bad. Not Rafalski types but Pitkanen, Ehrhoff, Bieksa, Wisniewski, Kaberle (not thanks), or maybe they take a shot at Eric Brewer. Then there is always the trade route of a guy like Bogosian. They have found ways to resurrect some guys careers. Cleary, Bertuzzi, Eaves, Miller, Stuart. I am not worried at all. Unlike most Wings fans who think they know better than Ken Holland and get made when he doesn't sign an enforcer I have 100% faith in him because if you would have told me in 1998 that they'd win a Cup in 08 and still be challenging for one in 2011 I'd say you were crazy. |
Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
I love this idea from Friedman:
7) How about this scenario: with the extra cap room, Holland makes a run at Brad Richards. Imagine giving Mike Babcock the ability to play around with Richards, Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg - yikes. Trade the maddening Valtteri Filppula and then work on your blue-line. Two reasons this won't happen: the Red Wings believe in spending money on defence first and, with a new CBA looming, this may be Richards' last chance to hit a contract Grand Slam. Like he said probably wouldn't have happened but the Wings could pull it off. Trade Fil and with Rafi gone that's 9mil to spend. Brendan Smith coming up wont cost much money and then get another Dman for that extra money from the cap going up. It would be tight but could be done. Won't be....but could be. |

^ That would be awesome. I know of a few people in Seattle that are Canucks fans but would surely love their own team. Selfishly I want a team out there because my wife is from Seattle and we are there about 2 times a year. So that would be solid. They have no arena though. That's the sticking point and part of the reason why they couldn't keep the Sonics.

If it is PHX, then move the Panthers to Quebec when/if they get their new arena. The Isles stay put with a new arena and then you are much more stable as a league then you have ever been since they've gone to 30 teams. |

Heatley nailed it on the head, he didn't produce. Neither did the rest of the guys making the big bucks. Hell, Heatley was non-existent until last night. The Sharks team as a whole needs to learn how to dig deeper on a consistent basis, not just when their backs are against the wall facing elimination. They are deep offensively and defensively, have a goalie that - while not perfect - has won a Stanley Cup and gone to the CF in his first two seasons in the league, and a good coach. It's the attitude and work ethic that needs to change. |
