Hank, Price, Rask, Rinne, and BOBROVSKY! are my top 5...probably in that order. |
Re: The NHL Thread
So I really don't think the Caps should trade Mike Green. But I think they will. Which is dumb. Very, very dumb.

Mathias with 2 goals in the first 5 minutes. I'll laugh if he doesn't get a hatty.

Hextall said he wasn't going to rush him back to just show him off to potential suitors, which I respect. Would love to get rid of a lot more than that. I think Hextall is smart enough that if he was giving a proper budget to work with he can do wonders |
Re: The NHL Thread
Getting rid of Coburn is stupid.
|
Re: The NHL Thread
He's been on the Flyers for 7 years or so now and hasn't won me over. He may be one of our biggest trade pieces on the D-line becuase of his experience. I say if they can get a good deal for him, then good riddance

Re: The NHL Thread
The problem isn't Coburn, it's the Flyers for thinking he's a top 2 d'man. He's not. He's been forced into the wrong role and it's why fans think he's a bad defenseman. He's a great second pair guy (top line when paired with someone like Kimmo). When was Coburn at his best? When the pairings were Pronger-Carle and Kimmo-Coburn.
Coburn has trade value and teams have been willing to give up a lot for him. But getting rid of him just to shed cap space is idiotic. |
Re: The NHL Thread
Santorelli AND Franson to Nashville
|
Re: The NHL Thread
I don't want to move Coburn just to shed cap space. I want to move Coburn because he's going to give us the most value coming back.
If I had to rank d-men to get rid of, it would be: Grossmann Schenn Timonen Coburn |

Re: The NHL Thread
there's no correlation between 40 years and the Holmgren tenure either.
The Flyers haven't been a legitimate Stanley Cup contender since 2004. Anybody who says otherwise is an idiot. You know what the biggest problem the Flyers have always had? Their scouting department sucks. |
Re: The NHL Thread
Marc Methot re-ups with Sens. Another one off the market.
|
Re: The NHL Thread
Ryan Getzlaf is an idiot. Gonna slash Ovie across the hands and then whine about it to the media afterwards. That play is called as a penalty 10/10 times. Gonna call Ovie a diver after the game. What a tool bag.

And bullshit no one supported Holmgren (or Clarke, for that matter). People in this thread are just like radio callers and forum posters who think the team can do no wrong. I don't think wanting to win a Cup, or looking back at the horrible moves and calling them horrible is insane and over the top. You're obviously content to just watch a team in orange and black play hockey, regardless of the outcome, so good for you. Some people actually want to see a winner. Quote:
And you're going to admit this team hasn't been legitimate contender in over a decade and not get pissed off about it?? That is what's insane. Quote:

So we done talking Flyers in here yet and are we ready to talk about how the Preds just loaded up their D even more and probably cemented their 3rd line yesterday? I hate that no one gives a shit about the Preds still. :lol
|
Re: The NHL Thread
Quote:
Loading up doesn't mean too much though. They did it in 2007 with Forsberg and got bounced in round 1. |
Re: The NHL Thread
Quote:
As for loading up with Forsberg in 2007, you're correct about that but what's happened her is depth has been added where it wasn't before. The top lines are solid and Franson and Santorelli are adding missing pieces that aren't going to shake up team chemistry and will only add to what's already a dominant possession team. Of course anything can happen in the playoffs but this does nothing but make even more excited for what this team can do. |

Re: The NHL Thread
Sucks to lose but probably the most entertaining game of the year. Couldn't imagine a 7 game series of games like tonight. My heart would never survive it.
|
Re: The NHL Thread
Awful way to lose a game
|
Deserve to lose like that after blowing a 3 goal lead. Bruins are not good.
|
Re: The NHL Thread
Well Howard looked better last night than his first game back, so that was good to see, even with a loss. Baby steps because you don't want any issues with a groin for a goalie. They also made the right move sending Mrazek down and keeping Monster. Depth, depth, depth.
If Wings want to do anything in the playoffs, they need to make a move. They aren't as good as the Habs or the Bolts. Need some help on D and that guy needs to be able to produce offense as well. I'm ok with them not making a move if they would have had to send away a big time prospect though. They need to think about the future too. |

Under Trotz, they were always one of my favorite teams. Always working hard, always finding ways to beat an opponent using something that wasn't necessarily pure skill. I love seeing them thriving under Laviolette as well. It's a testament not only to his coaching, but to the organization and the quality of players they develop. The trade was a fantastic one. Seriously, kudos to Poile for pulling it off. Franson, I think, will excel in this more structured system and in a role where not as much is asked of him. He's better suited for that #4-ish spot, and he'll thrive there with the Preds I think. Santorelli is such a good depth pick-up as well and is such an upgrade over the failed Jokinen experiment. The big piece going away is of course the 1st rounder, but the fact that it will probably be like pick number 28-30 makes it well worth it. Why not at that point? The Preds understand that they've got a core, and now they just need to build around it with complementary pieces to make sure that every single roster spot is filled by someone who makes a contribution. This trade was a perfect example of that. Finally, the Riberio acquisition has my vote for most underrated off-season signing. How awesome has he been, especially when it was looking like his career was on the rocks? |
Re: The NHL Thread
^ I'll second all of that. I freakin love the Preds, easily my favorite Western conference team
Chad90000, my only caution would be this. Two words. David. Poile. There were some really good Caps teams in the 80's while he was the GM there, and whether it's just bad luck or really just that the Caps are cursed, they just never quite got over the hump. This isn't the first time Poile's had a good team in Nashville, but still, never quite got over the hump. Let me be clear, I absolutely love David Poile and think he's a fantastic GM. But speaking from a little bit of experience, I'd be nervous heading into the post season. But I'll be pulling for you guys. Go Preds. |

Here to also give love to the Preds. Love Nashville, it is one of my favourite cities in America! I also liked the team on Facebook!
Only way I will dislike them is if NY and Nash meet in the finals haha |
Re: The NHL Thread
I know it's not hockey but I did a story on Tim Kerr's son, Garret, who is lighting it up in D2 basketball in Philly. May be the city's best player: http://www.pressofatlanticcity.com/s...3ba1835cb.html

Isles and Preds look to be legit teams for a while right now. These are definitely teams that remind me of the Hawks & Bruins 5-6 years ago. Young talent and a puck possession style of hockey will take you pretty far.
Remember when the Caps traded away Forsberg for Martin Erat? Poor Caps fans. |
