Re: R.I.P. Leroi Moore.

I haven't been this upset in a long long time due to a loss.

When I was 5, my grandfather died, but when we're young, it doesn't hit as hard.
Extended family members have died since then but none that I was so close with so they didn't hit as hard either.
Closest thing was my best friend's father when we were 10.

At 23, when you're questioning the meaning of life as it is, this is just painful.

Re: R.I.P. Leroi Moore.

ahem...

wow...

just got off work and heard the news. My buddy had told me "Did you hear the news? The DMB news?" and I knew without a doubt that this is what happened. When he was re-admitted to the hospital I knew it was only a matter of time. And the way Dave had talked about it and the quick 'rip-it-off-like-a-bandaid' replacement with Jeff Coffin pretty much had me believing we had seen the last of 'Roi whether he passed or not. Plus, after Isaac Hayes died I knew we were in trouble because the good ones always go out in threes.

I am sad. Though I knew the days with 'Roi were over long ago I didn't really expect to hear this. LeRoi Moore will always hold a dear place in my life and the music he helped create is written on my soul.

I'll miss him.

I wish the best to LeRoi's family and to the Dave Matthews Band. It was only a matter of time before we lost one. I hope the band continues to play, but it wouldn't suprise me to see only 'Dave Matthews' on all albums except this next one. They might see this as a proper time to close the chapter of the Dave Matthews Band after this tour.

I really don't know how to react. I need to smoke a bowl and get some sleep... I feel like I could shed a tear.

Godspeed, LeRoi

I just know that no matter what age I am, I can pop on some DMB and it will remind me one of the best days of my life (so far). The fact is I feel like part of that has disappeared tonight, and I can't bare to think that DMB will never be the same again because Mr. LeRoi Moore isn't wearing his sunglasses on the right side of the stage, standing next to one of the largest human beings I've ever seen.

I said this earlier in the thread, but I'm not sure if I'm going to another DMB show for a while.

Dave Matthews Band Saxophonist Dies

08/19/2008 5:14 PM, E! Online

The Dave Matthews Band brass has been silenced.
Saxophonist LeRoi Moore, one of the founding members of the Virginia-based jam band, died Tuesday afternoon at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles, E! News has confirmed. He was 46.
Exact cause of death is unknown, but it was due to complications from critical injuries that Moore sustained in a June 30 ATV crash on his farm near Charlottesville, Va.
Moore, who suffered a punctured lung and broken ribs at the time, had not performed with DMB since his accident, but had returned to L.A.—where the band is performing tonight at Staples Center—to begin an "intensive physical rehabilitation program," according to a statement released by DMB.
After opening tonight's show with "Bartender," Dave Matthews quieted the audience and informed them that "our good friend LeRoi Moore" had passed away.
"He gave up his ghost to heaven and we will miss him always," the singer said.
DMB then played the sax-heavy "Proudest Monkey," off of 1996's Crash. A solo played by Jeff Coffin, the Béla Fleck & the Flecktones member who has been sitting in for Moore all summer, prompted a huge round of hollers and applause.
"It's easier to leave than be left," Matthews said a couple of songs later.
The band's website is currently set up in homage to its late saxophonist, with its home page reading, "In memory of LeRoi Moore...1961-2008."
Although he seemed to be out of the woods, Moore was rehospitalized July 17 in connection with his injuries.
Moore, a jazz-influenced musician who played bass, baritone, tenor, alto and soprano saxophone, as well as flute, clarinet and penny whistle, was credited with arranging many of the tunes Matthews wrote—songs that nearly always provided chances for the backup players to shine.
"I have plenty of space to improvise, to try new ideas," Moore once said. "It's almost better than a jazz gig."

Leroi Moore, may you rest in peace. I will cherish and enjoy your music forever. You will have had a profound impact on the musical world. I have never heard another person play saxophone with such incredible dynamics. I love the music you have created, the songs, the jams, the solos, everything. I hope you sooth the ears of god, we will all miss you.

I've seen this sentiment multiple times on this thread already and find in solace in knowing im not alone in it. It's amazing how the passing of Leroi, a person I had never personally met, has struck a chord with me. I guess that just speaks to the power of the band and their music. Leroi's presence will be dearly missed, and his influence on the band will be made clearer with how the band moves forward from here. If they do. Re: R.I.P. Leroi Moore.

I've never thought I could feel so much pain over someone I've never met...but then as I realized what I was losing I knew that I had met Leroi....Everytime he ever filled my soul with his solos and soulful melodies...Leroi I love you and I thank you for the memories...you made me feel emotions that I never thought possible. RIP Leroi.......

This is awful and sad news... it is the passing of a legend. God bless you Leroi for bringing joy to so many generations of fans. You were one of a kind, and a true role model as well as an admirable and kind person. You will be deeply missed.. Thanks for the memories, you will never be forgotten

Love you, Roi. Your music did more for me and a lot of others then you will ever know. My thoughts and prayers are with your family and friends tonight. You're in a better place, and I know the jam sessions up above are ridiculous tonight.

This just isn't fair. Not to him, to his family or music in general. Thank you so much Roi for it all. Celebrate a life well lived.

Thank you, LeRoi.

And thanks to all of you Ants for being here for each other to help all of us through this difficult time. I'm finding comfort in knowing I am not the only one deeply saddened by this news.
