As we get to the home stretch, so weird to be rooting against Eastern teams. I saw the score of the SJ game and thought "damn the Sharks won" and then was like oh yeah I don't care if they win or not.

There was also a report earlier this week, or last week, about Seattle getting close. Wonder if there is more truth to these than I had originally thought.

I would be surprised if they did this. Matt Hackett would be a capable backup on a rebuilding team, and really no better time than now to give the reigns to Enroth.

Wouldn't be surprised. Could be a reason the deal was done a few days before the deadline. Maybe to MTL as a rental in case Price is out a while? I haven't heard reports on how he's doing.

Edit: I jut don't see a rebuilding club like the Sabres signing a veteran-ish goalie with a reasonably high price tag going into free agency when they've got 2 young guys who are much cheaper. Thrifty is the name of the game for the Sabres right now. Give the kids a chance to grow for the next couple seasons while expectations are low.

I can't see Halak being here in Buffalo after next Wednesday. He certainly won't be resigned.

Stewart has been linked to Ottawa for a while and now that Murray has traded for him those rumors have blown up.

Blues get the Ducks' locker room attendant. Love it.

The rebuild in Buffalo is real. They're killing it. If they can get more for Moulson, Halak, Stewart...it's unreal.

I really hope they draft well. I have a soft spot for the Sabres...mostly for nostalgia because one of my first childhood sports watching memories is Brad May.

It's so conflicting for me, because Miller is one of my favorite non-Hawk players (possibly my favorite). I love the guy, want to see him win...but not on the fucking Blues.

I agree, one of the two seems likely. Can't think of a reason why Miller wouldn't resign there, but hey, ya never know.

Glad to see Miller get moved and I am happy for my Sabre friends (I've got several in my long time fantasy hockey league) for them to advance the rebuild.

Annoyed my brother's team, who is my number 1 nemesis in said fantasy league as we gone back and forth as 1-2 in our division, just got stronger as he has Miller.

Isles will definitely defer that 1st rounder to 2015.

Pumped for a ton of afternoon hockey today. Coaching my 8 year old in a doubleheader in basketball today and we should be done in time for a get in front of the TV for 1pm. This way, it frees my Saturday night up for a movie or more House of Cards with the wife.

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread

Rumors have the Wings interested in Kesler. I just don't see,as I said before, where he fits. When everyone is healthy he'd probably be the RW on the 3rd line, maybe on the 2nd depending on they wanted to do it. And I sure wouldn't give up Tatar or Nyquist or even Jurco for him. Edler is another story. Depending on the price, makes total sense for them.

I think I'm taking Wednesday off now, if my boss ok's it. I'll be watching a lot of it at work anyways so.... Spring break so no one will be around, so should be a good day to take off.

A lot of people have said that. Maybe a few too many this year? Everyone knew the Winter Classic and the game in LA. Games in NY didn't seem to get the attention nation wide. This game should be getting attention because of the teams and star players but I worry it's an after thought after all the games and the Olympics.

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread

Update on the conditional pick in the Buffalo/St. Louis trade:

So if Miller re-signs or Blues make WCF, it breaks down as this:

Blues get:
Miller
Ott
2014 2nd round (MIN)
2014 3rd round (BUF)

Sabres get:
Halak
Stewart
Carrier
2014 1st round (STL)
2015 1st round (STL)

If Miller does not re-sign and the Blues do not make the WCF:

Blues get:
Miller
Ott

Sabres get:
Halak
Stewart
Carrier
2015 1st round (STL)
2016 3rd round (STL)

This still doesn't answer the question of what happens if Miller re-signs with St Louis after the draft.

Also big win for the Flyers. Huge two points for them after their stinker of a game against San Jose.

I think Jonathan Toews' actions at practice last night solidified my feelings about him. The guy is all class and is definitely a future Hall of Famer. The guy doesn't get enough credit. If you guys missed it, he had a private skate with a five year old for the Make A Wish foundation.

Same here. If this is true, that was dumb on Pat's part. A 33 year old goalie who is still damn good, is more valuable going away than staying put.

Hard time believing this. Go back to the place where you had a lot of success to be head of hockey operations and want to go back to the NHL? Add to that he wasn't at the PC last night. I know they said he was sick, but unless you are puking every 10 seconds, you're there for that and then go home.

Montreal or Minnesota would be my two guesses.

I understand why u would care more about the NYV games. But being objective, Hawks/Pens is more intriguing to me than NYR vs wither of the other two teams.

True, nhl can't tell who is going to be good each year though. I mean, the winter Classic was not exactly thrilling this year either because the Wings are not so hot.

daveshookme 03-02-2014 01:50 PM

I haven't back read the entire convo but I think the winter classic and all the stadium series games are a great spectacle. Perhaps they have too many this year but I love them and hope they stick around for years to come.

Agree Wings haven't been themselves this year, but to say the Winter Classic wasn't thrilling, with a game-tying goal with like 5 minutes to go and a shootout, I wouldn't agree with.

There were too many this year. I think they were trying to appease many teams at one time. I think the reason NYC got two was because Yankee Stadium was never gonna get a Winter Classic because the bowl game that takes place that week so they gave them this. Then to not piss one of the other NY teams off, gave them each a game with the Rangers. Three games in what 5 days, was a little much. Then the fact that the Pens/Hawks was so far after the others, and afater the Olympics, it didn't get the hype that the others got. I would do maybe 3 a year, including the WC.

Oh and how royally have the Canucks fucked up with goalie thing? Fans are booing now because Lack isn't doing well. Not booing him, just the situation. Bad time, with so many thinking Lou should start, for him to have a bad game.

HallowBillies7 03-02-2014 04:33 PM

Nice to see at least Rask showing up in the game. Classic Bruins playing like crap right around the trade deadline.

I'd still love to see Flyers-Pens at Beaver Stadium. Would be an awesome center point for a great in-state rivalry.

There goes Brandon Pirri...to the Florida Panthers.

So a big shout out to Matty's Avs. That win helps the Wings out. Still down 5 to TBL but the Lightning are trending down, while the Wings are trending up....for now.

:lol Take it however you want.

But seriously, I feel like 50% of the trades in the NHL are between the Panthers and the Blackhawks.

Yeah, you see that a lot in sports. Two guys just work together and find it easier to make deals. Wings pulled off a few trades with Buffalo back in the day cause Holland and Regeir need each other well.

Wow, thanks. Gonna have to read that. I am such a dork, I remember that day like yesterday. Pre-twitter, stuff took longer to travel. Even the internet wasn't what it is today. I remember getting online in the late morning before work, had AOL at my parents so had to dial up, and went to ESPN. The headline was Doug Weight going to the Blues and I saw that and though "aw shit, they are gonna be good now." And since it was dial up, was taking a while, and was reading the paragraph that was still on the main page and at the end of the teaser paragraph it said the Weight traded happened how many ever hours after Buffalo shipped Domink Hasek and his $9mil contract to Detroit. Couldn't hit the stop button fast enough to go back and click that story. In that mornings paper, there was a quote from Holland saying he was happy with their goaltending too. lol

Hey, it was 2001.

Three wins? I dunno. Nashville and TO are possible. Chicago and Dallas are possible. It's not the NBA, the top teams don't win every night. But saying that, CBJ could lose to the Leafs just as easily. They gotta get that first one. I'm in a weird spot. A Jackets win gets them to within a point of the Wings but it also keeps the Wings 4 points behind the Leafs and with THREE games in hand.

When in doubt, root for the jackets. We need it.

Agree, tonight is the most important..

So of that list, who do we think for sure gets traded? Vanek and Moulson I think are for sure goners. Would be stupid, especially for Vanek, to not get traded. Andrew MacDonald and Legwand would be my other two. Not sure about some of those names. Hemsky is rumored every year at this time.

Kesler to the Blackhawks for Bickell and the Bulin Wall.
