I think teams will move before they are contracted. Phoenix to Seattle and Florida to Quebec

I understand that. I just think it's so screwy that one conferences teams have a better chance at the playoffs than the others.

Phoenix is there for another 5 years.

Florida ain't goin' anywhere. Bettman isn't going to completely abandon the south. Besides, Florida averaged an attendance of 99.7% of capacity last year. They're selling tickets for dirt cheap, and it may never been the Red Wings/Blackhawks/Maple Leafs down there, but they're doing just fine.

We're seeing teams added in 3-4 years. They aren't just going to shift the East being 16 teams to 14 and the West shifting from 14 to 16. They'll add two teams to balance it out.

I don't know how you fix it though. I would have been ok with CBJ going East as long as they kept playoffs 100% in division and not the wild card. Detroit was ok with the 4 conference propsal cause it helped them out in the playoffs. But I don't know if the Wings would have liked CBJ going East and not them even if they got the divisional playoff. Bettman didn't have an easy job there.

For FLA, yeah they aren't going anywhere. You aren't going to have TBL down there by themselves. If FLA improves the fans will come back. They had a good 2012 and fans were there this past year. Before that, 10 years without the playoffs will make most fans stay away.

Are they really there for another 5? I stopped paying attention. God what a horrendous idea. Did not know that Florida's attendance was so well.

This question is to any of the Philly guys. Have you ever watched from a club box or anything at the WFC? I am pretty sure I am going to have my batchelor's party at a day Flyers game and then head to AC.

Ugh. I hope not.

They should contract two franchises instead of expand.

Yeah, both the lower clubs and upper are cool. It's a different experience. In all honesty though, I would pick a day game against Tampa/Florida or whatever, there would be no way I would enjoy the box at a Flyers-Pens game because all I would care about is the game itself. If you want to experience the box, the fridge, the food and just hang out, go for a game where you don't care if you're going to miss half a period.

This is good advise for a box at any sport. Yeah it is cool, but you will miss a lot of the game because you are more into the stuff the box has to offer.

I know that when I go to the Fire/Ice lounge at Devils games I find I spend most of the time at the bar eating and drinking. Yes I am not a devils fan so it is pretty easy for me to miss parts of their games, but I still see plenty of Dev's fans missing most of the game too in there.

speaking of the devils boxes, i have a former high school acquaintance that does business development for the devils. it's a shame we were never legit friends.

Now I can finally order my Yandle sweater!!

I think I'm going to order something like this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Phoenix-Coyo...item58a2fab4bd

But in a XL so it can fit over my pads. Then take it to my local shop, get "Yandle" and "3" stitched on the back, and have something awesome to bring with me to drop-in hockey as my dark jersey.

I'm playing 100% defenseman now in the league I just started. I'm going to try and shift over full time. I'll play forward if they need me to, but I'm not longer considering myself a forward. I just love it back there. It's the greatest.

That Yandle goal I posted before...I LOVE doing that shit.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92wbX_Mrhrk

Sneaking in to a play when no one expects you/sees you. I love chasing back and being the last line of defense between me and the goalie. I love frustrating guys so much that they flip out (I don't remember if I told you this story but I had a guy want to fight me a couple weeks ago).

It's so awesome. I don't know why I didn't do it sooner.

My little Christopher is becoming a man.

The bolded is one of my favorite parts of the position. And the great thing about hockey? Nine times out of ten, you shake hands after the game and it's all forgotten.

TORONTO -- Terry Gregson is retiring as the NHL's head of officiating.

Stephen Walkom will leave his job as an on-ice referee to take over as senior vice president and director of officiating, the league announced Wednesday.

It's a familiar role for Walkom, who held the position from 2005-09.

Gregson, who joined the front office in 2005 after a 25-year career as a referee, will serve as a consultant to the NHL on officiating matters, including the league's participation in the 2014 Olympics.

"Terry had the unique ability to expertly manage the 78-man NHL officiating team," NHL senior vice president Colin Campbell said in a statement. "His tireless efforts behind the scenes to ensure that NHL officiating was the best it could be on a nightly basis were seldom recognized publicly, but we greatly appreciate his dedication to the game both on and off the ice for the past 33 years."

It should mention that Mo only played 40 games cause a skate slashed his arm the day after Thanksgiving. I was there in Columbus for that. He was just starting to find his form too. If he doesn't get hurt he might have had an ok season.

As for Sittler I didn't know this: "But when he showed up for the announcement, he was told by rookie GM Bobby Clarke that he was being traded to Detroit instead." Flyers are good at telling players one thing and doing another I guess. "You're not being shopped Jeff Carter...oh actually you're going to the Jackets."

Forgot Ollie went to TB and Oates to the Oilers.

Devils joining the Ranks of Phoenix apparently. I am surprised that they are in this kind of financial trouble. Us Rangers fans always liked to joke about the Devils not having fans, but they seemed to have pretty good crowds the past few seasons.

And if the league had any credibility left they have lost it now. "NJ isn't having any trouble." Sound familiar? Oh they said the same thing in 09 about the Coyotes. I will be beyond mad if somehow the Devils leave but the Yotes stay. I don't see it happening but it wouldn't shock me the way this league works.

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread

I remember reading an article before the Devils moved to Newark that was talking about 8 teams in the NHL that should no longer exist or be moved. I don't remember all 8 (Florida, Tampa, Atlanta, Phoenix were four that I do remember) but I remember the comment section was most vocal about NJ being on the list. Even with the 3 Cups the writer pointed out many flaws with NJ having a team and even more flaws about moving them to an arena where they are the only income (Meaning no more NETS). He made some really good points and it seems that he may have been correct.

I was originally convinced from that article that the Devils should be moved, but after the past 3 seasons I saw a much larger crowd attendance at the Pru-Center and had changed my mind. Maybe I changed it to soon.

It should be noted that the Devils forum (fire & ice) is claiming that the report by Forbs is inaccurate and that the team is close to finishing a deal for a new owner. I don't really know who to believe at this point.

This has been reported multiple times and shot down by the Devils or NHL. The fact that it keeps getting reported means there's at least some truth to it.

The Devils have 17 years left on the lease at Prudential Center, so they aren't going anywhere.

It appears they're also about to have some new owners, thankfully.
