Ants Podcast 105: So Hot You Could Fry An Egg

The current extreme heat may or may not be a result of DMB's recent run of form. It’s been a month of shows and news and we're here to recap all the highlights and do some deeper examination, from Camden, the Northeast, Deer Creek, Alpine and SPAC and everything in between. There have been over 20 new tour debuts, including a song last played in 2012. Plus we get a new behind the scenes glimpse into a tool Dave uses for selecting songs for each show, ie the "Yellow and Red Songs". We explain and break it down.

That was really cool. Listened to the whole damn thing. Gotta give it to y'all for going balls deep there. It was fun to listen to you geek out but be super informative. Way to lay it out there.

Will listen to the next one.

This was a really fun one. Joe did a lot of prep work to dig into the Red/Yellow song sheet. Definitely worth a listen.

As a previous critic of the podcast I must say I was really impressed with this one. (even tho Joe voted for SPAC over Alpine lol) Seems like the guys actually came at it with a fresh outlook this time and enjoyed the segment on the colored song list, the 59% thing was crazy.

Appreciate you giving another listen even after being critical in the past. 105 episodes in, it's hard to believe we're still struggling to keep episodes under 80 minutes or so, as there is just so much to talk about and so many layers to peel.

I'm also OK with taking the heat for some of the more poignant opinions shared. I feel like there are so many valid points, both encouraging and critical, and I'm fine with being bold about them even if some don't agree or don't enjoy hearing them.

And yeah - the 50% thing was astonishing to see in raw numbers. Definitely gives hard data support to the theory about the yellow songs.

And with Last Stop supposed to have been played last night, that is one more red song off the list. The color coded segment was awesome. Good to see a more positive attitude Matt... always welcomed :)

Matt is the epitome of SPAC fanboys. Also the 'when I like a song, I'm right and it's good and when I don't like it it's an awful song and the band sucks for playing it'. Corner of grey street is quite refreshing.

So true! That explains his zero visits to SPAC since 2010.

Criticize me all you want. If you wanna start to play the tribal podcast game, I’ll bounce your ass faster than you can click the red X.

And my constant ball breaking of the Two Step chants. Gotta love the hit and run clowns.

I haven't listened to the pod so I don't know your full opinion on chants, but I hate 'em. Chants are why we didn't get Last Stop at the AC Caravan N3 and got Halloween instead. Tsk tsk tsk.

You should listen to some, then. Because I skewer them every year :D

JTR chant got us JTR in the rain at Dallas. Probably a top-10 all time moment for me.

Thank You chants at Alpine, even (especially) if they work... vary dumb.

Now scale out to having JTR chants at every Dallas show, every year, all show long, from now on. That’s pretty much (was?) the situation at SPAC for quite a while.

Yea, I'd turn on that pretty quick. Like, next year. :lol

Hahah, I meant this particular pod. But duly noted. ;)

Ants and Chapo keep my commute sane.

To be fair, don't you think it's reasonable for an artist to acquiesce to a request when half the crowd is chanting for it? Not Dave...

Joe reminds me of the IT from The Office TV show. He's been in a lot of shows since then, cant remember his name. I didn't like the lack of Colorado love but it seems like it's a far journey for you all and honestly, dont come here. Keeps the prices cheaper. Really enjoyed Matts style.
