Penns sign Justin Shultz for 1 year/$1.4 million. I like it, I think.

of course you like it!

he took a significant paycut

he's only making 36.8% of what he made last year which is crazy. we've got our right-handed defenseman with upside on the cheap

great signing by GMJR

Yeah, good signing. And good for him, recognizing that he prooobbbably wasn't going to get a much better on the open market. He's essentially a PP specialist who can play very limited regular minutes. I remember watching the SCF and thinking, "do they really only put him out for the PP? :lol"

That said, he's good at playing the role he's asked to play, and he's in a good situation on a Cup-winning team. Good for both parties getting him locked up.

i think his role can expand too. with Sullivan's fast-paced, puck moving system he should fit in nicely with increased minutes

he'd be perfect at right around 12-14 mins per game and on the 2nd PP unit

Letang-Maatta
Dumolin-Daley
Cole-Shultz

Pouliot as their 7th

that's not a bad blue line at all

Crazy how far he has fallen since his UFA days. Smart to stay with the good team and try to get your value back up.

:thumbsup i agree...not sure his agent is thrilled about the paycut but i think it'll be better in the long run for him

He's one of those guys whose minutes will fluctuate on a night-to-night basis depending on what team they're playing. He'll play more against faster teams, and less against grinding teams. That's why we didn't see him much against the Sharks in the SCF.

That would be awesome. :lol

But seriously, he'll probably at least be wearing an A.

One of two stories I got out of the Flyers event yesterday. This one is for tomorrow's paper.

Travis Konecny and Ivan Provorov are contenders for the Flyers roster this season: http://www.pressofatlanticcity.com/s...2c0a8b279.html

Good story. You have the wrong "week" where it should be "weak" in the Provorov quote. Some journalist is right.........

This off season has been very depressing for me! Going back to work next week does not help either.

Can't the Wings just trade for Fowler now? It would make things a little better in the short term.

And for Matty:

@wyshynski:Bill Foley says Salt Lake City is "very interesting" as a potential minor league market for a Las Vegas farm team. #NHL

Actually very happy for him. Hopefully things work out for him. Seems like he'll be starting with a pretty decent roster considering it's an expansion team.

I was never much of a McPhee hater. He did a lot of things very much right. Granted he also got very lucky when the Alex Ovechkin ping pong ball landed on him.

He still put a pretty good team together, they just never got to the top...of the playoffs. I liked reading comments on articles saying he was such a bad choice and he never won. I'm sure quite a few teams would love to have the success Caps had from 08-14. Not hiring someone because they never won a Cup while they still built a good team would be stupid.

Yeah, there's a lot of buzz about this right now in our little hockey community. Most likely they'd just bump our ECHL team (the Grizzlies) back up to the AHL, which would be awesome.

I think the support is there for an AHL team again. We regularly get 5,000+ (can get to 7k-8k on weekends), which is DAMN good for ECHL.

Plus, with our major airport that has like 60 million flights to Vegas (45 minute flight) a day, it's perfect for emergency call-ups and such. A guy in Vegas could get hurt during the morning skate and we could have a call-up there by lunchtime.

Agreed, fully. He was a solid GM. It was probably time for him to go when he did, and I always thought he was a little too focused on the offense, but all in all I liked McPhee and thought he did a great job.

Just wait till he gets his hands on an elite level prospect. Will surely trade for over the hill mid-level talent.

Popping in to say the last 2 nights at Gilford were awesome. So glad we chose to come up here. The area, weather and food were great. That venue was awesome and the band was on fire. You can make a legit argument it was better than Alpine.

In hockey news, Islanders new majority owners took over and he said Garth Snow will have no money restrictions and he won't get involved in hockey operation decisions and they are committed to making Brooklyn work, improve and be the long term home.

My other Flyers story, this time hopefully with out a grammar mistake (there will be, I'm not an editor :lol). Travis Sanheim is ready to turn pro and contend for a spot on the Flyers roster this season.

Very. I think Provorov has the best chance to make the team. Sanheim's defense still needs a bit of work (sounds like Ghost this same time last year). Would be amazing if they have deja vu with him.

ESPN Insider is annoying as all hell, I see an article I want to read and then click it only to find out it is an insider article and I can only view one or two paragraphs because I do not have an account - I will never pay for this crap because for the most part I can get the same information on other sites!
