Flyers are an ECHL team until Clarke, Homer and Barber are gone and Comcast sells the team.

Axing Fletcher is a start but letting that dipshit manage the trade deadline just proves that they have no idea what they’re doing.

Said the same to my Flyers friend earlier. Fletcher was just a symptom. It's very rare to succeed with shitty ownership.

It is so interesting how differently we view this team :lol

I look at the Rangers as a team that has not won a game against a good opponent since beating the Kings a few weeks back, but really have not won an impressive game since beating the Canes over a month ago.

Instead, I see a team that doesn't look very good and is struggling to beat weak teams like Buffalo and Montreal in OT while being unable to secure two points against the better teams in the east.

When it comes to the moves the Rangers made in the last month, I am really not sure that they made the team any better. They were some big names for sure, but defensively, I think they got worse and offensively they brought in players that are past their prime. I really want to be proven wrong, but this season smells far to similar to the Rangers of the late 90's-early 2000's. I am convinced they are likely an early exit this year and will be diagnosing what went wrong in the offseason.

Pens game had Halak in bad situations all game and I thought he played well. There were multiple sequences yesterday where the D struggled to clear their zone in 5v5 and I definitely agree about D liabilities going forward.

Re: The NHL Thread

Last night was the only the second time the NY Rangers have won in regulation time in the last 13 games. They were also completely outplayed in the third period and were lucky to hit an empty netter with over 2 minutes to go to take the pressure off. On the positive side, Shesty is starting to look better and Kane had his best game as a Ranger. On the negative side, they beat a team below the playoff line and again looked like they struggled to do so.

The next two games against the Pens are going to be very telling. Rangers need to win at least one of them in regulation IMO to show they are not nose diving into the playoffs.

It shows ability to play a full 60 minutes of hockey rather than taking shifts off and hoping for the best in a 3v3. That doesn't work in the playoffs. Also, beating Montreal, Buffalo and Philly in OT doesn't really impress me like beating Boston, Pittsburgh, Vegas, Carolina or NJ would. Needing OT to beat bad teams is not a great sign. Remember the Panthers a few years back? They had a ton of OT wins and were a high seed as a result. They wound up getting bounced round 1.

This isn't the playoffs. Rangers playing ok hockey and still getting 7 out of a possible 8 points. Works for me. There is so much luck in hockey the Rangers could play perfect and get less points over a 4 game stretch.

Drifting around twitter and tiktok the past few days and I have to say, I am honestly shocked with how overconfident the Bruins fans seem to be online. They are having an amazing season no doubt and obviously are the overall favorite in a playoff field that I would say has about 7 teams that can realistically win it all this season.

What I don't understand is how the Bruins fans I am seeing online can be as cocky as they are. The stats behind winning the president's trophy are not great. All it seems to do is put a big target on you entering the playoffs. In addition, the Bruins have lost their last two trips to the Stanley Cup finals and are an older team now (that was predicted to be a fringe playoff team going into the season). They are definitely clicking on all cylinders and have the right ingredients to win it all. However, we have all seen it time-and-time again that most years the obvious favorite goes down once the playoffs start. The NHL playoffs are an absolute grind of a second season and not much of what you did in the regular season matters much once it starts.

My point is that I just don't know how any fan of any team can be really that confident heading into the playoffs knowing what we know as fans of the NHL. Hawks fans, Kings fans and Pens fans I could see having that level of confidence after all their cup wins, but short of having just won 2-3 cups, I don't think any fans should be so confident.

As many of you know, I really like the Bruins too. They were easily my #2 team for a decade when I was living in Boston and for many years after. They have dropped a bit now for me, but I still root for them over like 95% of the league so I am not trying to rain on anyone's parade at all. Just really surprised to see it online to the level I do.

Yup, especially if they have to play Florida. They're finally healthy, have a loaded roster, and are playing really well right now. Plus, they got swept last year and have a bone to pick.

Would fucking love to see it happen.

Rangers went full meltdown tonight. Felt like they were completely outmatched after the first period. Power play looked bad, team couldn’t breakdown the Canes to get shots and they were definitely guilty of sitting on the 1 goal lead. Carolina was also unlucky to not get some calls in their favor and still found a way.

Not a great look as the haters are already saying NY can’t beat any good teams. Definitely makes Thursday’s game a lot more important for NY to answer back. My confidence in them will drop if they lose both games to Carolina because tonight they didn’t look like they could hang once the Canes took over and tilted the ice.

On the other hand, it’s only one game after a 4 game win streak. Thursday’s game is big.

Vancouver would have been my top pick for him since he is from BC. That said, the Canucks decided to win too much. I wouldn't hate San Jose landing him at all. I just want to see him wasted in a market like Arizona.

The Yotes might be dangerous in a few years. They have something like 17 picks in the next three drafts

On my way home from Raleigh now🏒. Helluva weekend. Hit several breweries, wife ran the half on Sunday and then the Bruins game on Sunday against Carolina. Had to of been 5000 to 8000 fans in attendance that were Bruins fans. Parking was as bad as Mansfield at PNC but the game was a blast and super cool it was Whalers night with the old uniforms. Bummer that Texas lost, which wiped out my bracket but still a fun weekend. Bruins!!!! :bounce:bounce :bounce:bounce

Lol there are only 6 years where the Blackhawks had fans. Hold on to that until they're good again and they pop up again.

Phoenix doesn't deserve a team.

One of my friends is a huge Hawks fan and has been since the 90’s, as far as this thread goes though, yes, the Hawks fans are no where to be seen.

We have a few fair weather teams as far as fans go over the years on ants. It always made me wonder if the site was just starting to lose steam or if these fans just stopped posting once their team stopped winning (or in the case of Caps fans, they won once and disappeared).

Hawks, Pens and Caps all used to have a fair amount of fans posting in this thread. They have all gone ghost for a while now. For the Pens and Hawks fans, I do feel like they can’t handle losing and they only show up when their teams are good.

We also have the Boston fans who only post when their team is in first or making a run in the playoffs.

I have joked that if the Rangers ever won a cup I would “retire.” That said, I am glad that my team has stayed consistent with the fan representation in the hockey thread regardless of how the team is. Flyers fans have been solid in this thread too (that hurt to write). Kings, Canes and some others have all been pretty consistent as well.

I don’t post nearly as much as I used to but that has nothing to do with the Pens. Family, new job, life have gotten in the way.

With that said, Ron Hextall is a jackass and needs to be canned. FSG needs to be more visible and bring Mario back into the fold. Sully might need to feel a little heat too.

I think it's a bit of both. I do know one thing though, no one can accuse me of being a fair-weather fan. Have endured and stuck it out through ALL the pain. :lol

Hope all is well with the job and family!

Having said that, the Pens fans in this thread are the ones I noticed the sudden drop off the most from. Even going back to the 08/09 runs, for a few years after that it seemed like the Pens representation was less until they got great again.

Hawks fans for sure went missing in a big way the past 3-4 years. We used to have some very consistent and frequent Hawks fans posting here that pretty much never post anymore.

I am sure that part of it is all of us are getting older and the site traffic is way down....but as a fan of a team that hasn't won the Cup yet for me, I can't help but judge a little as it does feel like they were all only around for the glory days and made a nice Irish exit once the tides turned :lol

At least the Caps fans stuck around through all of their painful days before winning it all.

Way too much! Geez. I mean, I'm glad for the development of the kids and all. But yeah! We had a nice 1-9 stretch going. And have killed all that "momentum" by going 5-1 since. Bad win versus Montreal last night.

I knew we'd never get into the top 3 odds for #1. Even since the beginning of the year. But being 7th worst now is unacceptable. Let's at least get back into the top 5. Need AZ and MTL to get hot. But we also have two games in hand that we'll probably win. Bad time for WINS!

Day one Avs fan here, from the moment that turd Marcel Aubut announced the team was sold and moving to Denver

I do not see posting in this thread as a barometer of my fandom, although I can't deny that my favorite team winning the Cup last year has reignited a passion to follow hockey more closely

Would love for the rangers to surge and catch CAR but they have the tougher schedule.

Not that it would really matter since Rangers fans will be at both arenas, but I would like for NY to get the 2 seed if possible. Devils have not been playing well recently, so hopefully tonight is a good opportunity. I never take rivalry games lightly though, I am sure NJ will be ready.

Rangers look out matched tonight. Team is so different without Lindgren in the lineup. I knew the Devils would come out flying against them despite playing poorly recently. Not sure I am prepared for a Devils/Rangers round 1.

All the pain.

It’s taken me a while to believe it, but the Oilers are really good. Ekholm was a very very good addition to this team.

If the standings hold Boston might sweep the Pens in three. Everyone will throw in the towel faster than Rocky in Creed v Drago, “ok, three’s enough.”
