Ridiculous. Caps fans love to put the blame on Boudreau, because God forbid the players catch any blame for playing the same gutless hockey that gets them booted from the playoffs every year. As if Hunter is now going to get Semin to play like a real hockey player.

Sometimes a coaching change can be the catalyst for team-wide change, but in the end it's the players that have to decide they want to go to the next level, i.e. playing as a team. Yes, I'm talking to you, Ovechkin and Semin. Two of the most purely talented players in the whole league, with absolute shit for attitudes.

EDIT: If Hunter as a coach is anything like he was as a player, he'll be the complete opposite of Boudreau. Will be interesting to see how the players respond.

Exactly..so hopefully a hard-nosed, gritty coach will change that.

Bruce preached playing aggressive and being tough for 3 years now...the team very rarely responds. When there are players talking about BB needing to institute more discipline...it's time for him to go. He lost the team.

ESPECIALLY in hockey. It's amazing how short-term the life of an NHL coach is with teams.

I'm hoping this really invigorates the team...like it did when Boudreau first came up.

Dale Hunter.

Posts like this are why I almost never post in this thread. It was more than clear that Bruce had lost the team. When a coach says in the Washington Post he doesn't know what to say to get the team to play tough, that's an issue. Boudreau allowed the team to play like shit with his superstar coddling and his consistent line juggling. It was time for him to go. And while I don't think Hunter will fix Semin in particular, Boudreau had lost EVERYONE, not just Semin and Ovechkin, and I think Hunter will have success with almost everyone on that roster. I think we will see a reenergized Ovechkin who won't just skate in circles anymore. I think Hunter will immediately have everyone's undivided attention in that room and he will make it clear he IS in charge. And I think it was a brilliant move. I never thought Ted and George had it in them.

So again I say, what a great day to be a Caps fan. Dale Hunter for the motherfucking win.

I think very few of us are saying Boudreau shouldn't have been fired. I believe he should have, and I'm excited to see what Hunter brings. My only disagreement is with the people who place the blame completely on Brucey. Sure, he couldn't get the attention of his team. That's partly his fault, but it's partly the players' who decided they'd rather be an underachieving team than suck it up and play real hockey.

Milan Hejduk gets the "C" in Colorado. This surprised me, as I imagined them going with a youngster like Stastny or Johnson. Nevertheless, Hejduk, while the quieter type, has a history of hard work and winning and is one of the few seasoned veterans on the roster. Not a bad move, just not one I expected.

Sabres have sent three players back to the AHL, so they are no longer Buffalo Amerks. Although after the way they played Saturday that might be a bad thing. AO's defense revolves around skating into his own zone looking to make a hit on a player who is not watching nor has the puck.

About time they made a coaching change in DC. Kind of shocking who they got. Half the Caps fans in that building have no idea who the guy is.

I hope the Bruins throw Krejci + a pick or prospect at the Ducks for him. Seems like it'd be a logical move for both sides. Ryan is locked up on a reasonable deal and Krejci will be a RFA. With Seguin emerging Krejci becomes a bit more expendable for the Bruins. The Ducks could use a center for their 2nd line too.

I agree, but who are you willing to part with? Right now, scoring is not a problem (3rd in the league in goals) with Toews, Hossa, Sharp, Kane all hovering around a PPG. I think the rumor of the Hawks going after a d-man makes more sense considering the struggles of the defense and even Crawford, to an extent.

The Hawks farm system is incredibly deep, and it's one of the best in the entire league. Hammer, a pick, and a prospect or something along those lines would be fine with me. If you get a D man, who moves out of the top 4? And if this new D-man everyone wants comes in and doesn't move into the top 4, than he is barely worth getting because we would have to give up too much for a bottom pair guy.

Perhaps, but their D really isn't as big an issue as is their forward unit right now. After their top line and Selanne, their depth drops off dramatically. If Ryan goes, and remember Selanne will probably be gone next season as well, they've got quite a bit of point production to replace and generate more of. They will want secondary scoring.

Meanwhile, on the back-end they've got all sorts of depth. Young guys like Fowler and Sbisa are complemented by vets like Lydman, Beauchemin, and the underrated Visnovsky.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Slow here at work so I just looked up an interesting stat. The Ducks have scored 49 goals this season, and 20 have come from Selanne, Getzlaf, Perry, and Ryan. Also, only SIX forwards (the aforementioned plus Koivu and Cogliano) have scored more than ONE goal this season. They will definitely want scoring.

I would hardly call this lifeless. I would call it "Playing Phoenix." Very similar to it's cousin "Playing Nashville."

Allowing a much, much, much less talented team to impose their game at will is pretty lifeless to me. 2 shots in the 2nd period so far is pretty lifeless. They just aren't competing as hard as Phoenix, and that has been happening too often lately. I really hope they can turn it around in this game but they just aren't getting much momentum going.

2 out of the last 9 games does not qualify as "happening too much." Outside of Calgary and Edmonton, this team has played well to awesome in almost every game.

You conveniently cut it off at the last 9 games because the two before that were back-to-back dreadful performances against Vancouver and St. Louis. That makes it 4 out of 11. Include tonight, and you have 5 out of 12 if they don't completely turn it around in the 3rd. Then lose a game that could go either way to San Jose, and we're headed for 6-6 in the last 12.

But, they did it against Anaheim so if they can gut out another big 3rd, I will be more than happy to take it all back.

Don't say "this has been happening too much lately" and then when I go back and look at the games that have actually happened lately, be mad that I cut it off.

Ok, then it's more of a symptom of this year's team in general, unfortunately.

It really has been. Put the puck fucking on net. Stop trying to be so cute with it (Hossa to Carcillo is a prime example).

Just overall bad. Turnovers in our own zone all night. Bad.

Yep. I can't remember one time when I saw any red sweaters crashing the net. It's like they win two games and think they can go back to making the "pretty" plays. Go to the front of the net and make something happen.

And the defense is terrible again. Crawford was hung out to dry on 1 or 2 of those but damn he has not been very good for a while now.

Totally tweeted this. I'd tweet the other thing but I try to shy away from f'bombs on Twitter hahaha.

EDIT: Also, Chad's quote in my sig is too funny to let go

Thanks Hawks. Wings needed that. Now only 2 points behind with 3 games in hand.

Big win for the Rangers last night. Finally getting consecutive wins over the "big" teams. Both teams last night took dumb penalties though. Could have killed the Rangers in the first period and killed off any chance for a Pitt comeback in the third. In the end, two class teams that are stacked with talent put on a good show!

What a complete abortion of a game last night, holy fuck. This team the past 2 years is definetely missing the swagger they had with the group that won the Cup and made a run the year before that. Not to mention Craw looked extremely mediocre and has for a while now.

what is the most anyone in here would give up for Bobby Ryan? Says they want a young dman, young center, and a top prospect of pick. also read top 4 dman, 2nd line center, and 1st/prospect.

Well that didn't take long, Bruce is the new coach of the Ducks.

Nevermind. I wouldn't do that trade I just made up.

One of the shortest turnarounds ever probably. Not sure how much he'll help out there right now with only one scoring line.

Bruins just went through November without a regulation loss. 12-0-1. When they shake off the cup hangover they'll be pretty good.

Boudreau is the new coach for the Ducks. The Ducks management really licked out with this one, IMO. Boudreau gets a lot out of younger players because of his experience in te AHL.

Gross.

That said, congrats to Gabby. Knew that wouldn't take long. He's a hell of a coach. Wish him nothing but the best, and I'll be rooting for the Ducks now.

Unless it's Caps vs Ducks for the cup. Then its all CAPS.
