crazy how a religious chant can keep an entire franchise stuck in purgatory for so long

They should hate someone, but you have the wrong Patrick. (Sidenote: this is one of my favorite crazy fan theories). They should hate Patrik Stefan.

Why, you ask? Because this play is how the Blackhawks ended up with Kane (not really, but it's a hilarious stretch to connect these dots):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bBns6ZUn0U

CAN YOU. BELIEVE. WHAT WE. JUST SAW?!

Since that goal tied the game, the Oilers collected a point and tied the Hawks in the standings. However, the Oilers owned the tiebreaker, so they actually finished ahead of the Hawks in the standings.

If Stefan buried the empty net, the Oilers would have been behind the Hawks in the standings, and the Oilers might be the one with #88, not the Hawks. It might have been Toews/Gagner instead of Toews/Kane.

Obviously the game happened in January and it's a stretch to "butterfly effect" it to that level, but it still cracks me up to think about :lol

The "Crosby sucks" chants are great. It's a part of the rivalry between the Flyers and the Pens. Yeah, I get it. The chants don't get to him and he kills the Flyers in every single game he plays against them, but so what? It's entertaining, and that's what great about it.

Goalies have apparently been just beginning to wear new slimmed-down pads...

Speculating a bit here - but wondering if that has something to do with these crazy scores we've been seeing?

they have until Feb 4th to make the change and i'm pretty sure it only applies to the goalie pants, and not the pads

Re: The NHL Thread (lolcaps)

Yeah I thought it was just the pants and even though I know goalies like to break things in, I'd guess they'd wait as long as possible to use them in a game.

I think most guys are already wearing them...but for some reason I thought it was leg pads. Definitely was wrong there.

No way a trade happens, Wings just can't afford to give up what he would cost but he'd be a great addition to this team. While I think they need to get some young D in there, need to supplement that youth with some veterans.

I mean...he's only 27. Has plenty of time left.

I think he's the perfect age. Just saying they need some help there right now, so even if they get some young guys in the draft this year he'd help short term and long term. I doubt it happens though because someone out there will give the Blues what they want in terms of assets and get a contract extension with him done. Was reading he was talking extension with the Yotes last summer but it never happened so the trade never happened.

Re: The NHL Thread (lolcaps)

the more goals the better

i think this recent influx of goals has a lot to do with the fact that there aren't many good goalies left

i mean, Carey Price, Bobs, Dubnyk (although his blue line does a lot) and who else? buncha average goalies around the league
