Canes will be fine in my opinion. They had a great stretch before this slump.

The MET is a lose-lose for me at this point. Either the Rangers play the Devils and if the Rangers lose I might have a mental breakdown; or the Rangers play the Canes who I like and would like to see succeed if the Rangers can't win. I hate to have to root against Carolina anymore.

Svech being out is such a bummer. I thought this could be the year for a Cup but now I’ll be happy if we get past the first round.

Looking at the standings today....

It would be wild if after all that, the Islanders wind up dropping out. The Panthers and Penguins are in a good position to do it too. Also, the Flames are doing their best to stay in the fight out West but I think the West is set.

Leafs are definitely going to lose in the first round. They're the best team they've ever been. They'll find a way to make game 6 an elimination game, lose that and then in typical Leaf's fashion lose game 7. You heard it here first.

There was never really any doubt right? Like no one was buying the Stanley Cup hangover nonsense. They were just injured. A healthy Aves team is still the favorite to repeat IMO.

The Hockey Guy picked Aves over Rangers at the start of the year, would be wild if he is right. (Although as a Rangers fan, I would rather not make the finals than lose in them again).

Couple of fines coming out of that game to killorn and Fox for slashing. Those two teams definitely do not like each other and it would make for an interesting playoff series if they both found a way back to the conference finals again.

Just saw the video. Amazing for Quinnipiac, brutal for Minnesota. We were downtown having dinner last night and saw a bunch of Minnesotans wearing hockey sweaters in 84 degree weather. If I was visiting Florida from Minnesota after the winter they just had, I'd be wearing nothing at all. I'd literally be naked. But no, those crazy assholes were wearing sweaters.

This is going to be such an interesting year to watch the Bruins in the playoffs. The spotlight is going to be on them from the opening faceoff with everyone talking about the President's Trophy Curse. They can definitely win it all, but like many others, I wouldn't be surprised if they collapse in the playoffs. They are just a different beast.

As for the New York Rangers; things seem to be coming together at the right time. Shesterkin is playing at a much higher level than he was all year, scoring is up, D is getting healthy again and new acquisitions seem to be fitting in nicely. Can't ask for much more heading into the playoffs. With a likely first round meeting against the Devils, being hot now matters. I think I speak for most Rangers fans when I say that a first round loss to their bitter rivals is unacceptable. That makes the first round the most important one this year.

The Hockey Guy is very high on the Rangers right now. When the season started, he had Colorado over New York in the finals as his prediction. Now he has them as #3 and #4 in his power rankings. So maybe a non-biased view like his is getting me excited that NY might be able to go on a run!

Islanders definitely can hang with the B's. Their goaltending and stifling defense works well in playoff settings.

Hawks doing the work of the hockey gods last night! I would really like to see the Penguins miss the playoffs finally. Also, no Ovi or Crosby in the playoffs would be nuts. Finally a changing of the guard in the league. I also really wanted NJ, NYI and NYR to all make the playoffs together. That hasn't happened since I started watching hockey almost 30 years ago.

I can't believe I am defending the Islanders, but.... Sorokin is basically as good as Ullmark this year and has been better than him the past few seasons. He is also proven in the playoffs and Ullmark is not. If he didn't play for the Islanders he would likely already have a Vezina. My point is that he is more than capable of stealing games for the Islanders.

I do agree that the Bruins offense is better, but the Islanders have a lot of experienced forwards that know how to score in close games. They missed the playoffs last year, but they have also won 6 Playoff series in the last 4 years with 2 ECF finals during that span. That is more recent playoff success than Boston as far as deep runs go.

For me, I think Boston is either going to flop early or win the cup easily. I just have watched hockey for too long to think they are going to cruise to the cup like their fans think they will. They are not really that different of a team from the last few years. An unreal regular season doesn't mean playoff success.

The Isles also had arguably the best coach in the NHL during those two years. And he's gone.

I'll give you Sorokin, but I don't see him being able to overcome his team's dogshit offense against an elite defense. Maybe the Isles steal a game. That's about the best I see them doing...5 games.

And I never said they will cruise to the Cup. Actually, I specifically said it's going to be a lot harder for them after Round 1. I wouldn't be surprised if anyone they face in Rounds 2 or later beats them. But I absolutely do not see them losing to the Isles or Pitt.

I definitely would not be picking them to beat Boston. I just think in the playoffs anything can happen and I like what the Islanders have going for them in net. First they need to lockup their playoff berth though. They failed to do that 2 nights ago and got luck the Pens embarrassed themselves against Chicago last night.

I don't think he has anything left. Sad the way his career ended, but what a career it was. I had a Toews jersey for when I went to Hawks games with my buddy a bunch back in 2015-17. Just a reminder of how fast time can go.

Sometimes you post like you have never watched hockey :lol

Yes, this Lightning team is not the same. Yes, this is a different year. Yes, the regular season records make Tampa look bad this year. However, have the Lightning made easy work of every team in the east the past 3 playoffs...Yes. Does Tampa still have the key players that have defeated the Canes, Rangers and every other team in the east still on their team....yes. Would I be at all surprised if they go on a run again and win the East....nope, not at all.

Until someone shows they can beat the Bolts in the playoffs, they are still the team to beat. 3 straight ECF Championships and 2 out of the 3 last cups. I can't believe anyone is sleeping on them.

I don't think he has anything left. Sad the way his career ended, but what a career it was. I had a Toews jersey for when I went to Hawks games with my buddy a bunch back in 2015-17. Just a reminder of how fast time can go.

That was tough to watch last night, last of that core 7 who won 3 cups. I had to take a xanax after he scored lol. Not sure why the GM did not even leave the door open for a return though; this new gm just blew up the team allowing RFA's to walk or trading everyone who could put a puck in the net and all we got in return for 200+ goals a season in those 7 guys is Raddysh, picks, OK prospects and seth jones on an absurd cap killing contract. It's like biden is running this team.

Still though, Toews and company gave me some very fun memories, this is like when the Jeter/Rivera Yankees started going away.

Just do the math. If they get by the Leafs they have to play the Bruins. If they some how win those games they have to play most likely the Devils, Rangers or Canes to get to the Cup.

Leafs make it out of the first round, I'll take that bet any day. :lol

Playoffs, least this year I can watch from home rather than a hospital! Hoping to see a Rangers/Stars final personally. Also hope the Bruins pull a 2019 TB, never liked that team back to my Whaler days!

Good luck to all your teams - unless you cheer for Carolina, NJ or the Islanders! :)

Colorado over all for me, of course

Someone asked me who would be my No. 2 team and while it would probably be the Sharks since I live in the Bay, I replied, “Have you ever seen There Will Be Blood? ‘I want no one else to succeed?’ It’s kinda like that” :lol

Ok so what are the odds they beat the Leafs, Bruins, Devils and the Avalanche to win the cup?

So we are just counting out the Panthers, Rangers and Wild/Kraken? What else does Tampa need to do to prove they are a threat in the playoffs?

I know he was battling injury during the playoffs last year, but Landeskog being completely out for this postseason gives me worry about putting Colorado in the SCF again. Plus, Edmonton and Dallas playing really well the last few weeks... Vegas is also no slouch. The West in general looks pretty dangerous as of late.

I'll do the conference finals too.

SCF: Dallas over Boston

I do think they have played about as well as can be expected without him. Rantanen has really stepped up. And they finished strong

Is that gonna be enough? I’m less sure. They don’t take over games like they did last year, which I don’t think is 100% attributable to Landeskog, but also that they haven’t really replaced Kadri either

they havent been healthy enough to build any chemistry this season to take over games like they did last year. yes, they lost a lot of fire power in the offseason with kadri and burakovsky leaving, but they've also been down like four top 6/top D-pair players every single night. as soon as someone comes back, someone else goes out for weeks. in december they literally had half their team out with injuries. if they can just get and stay healthy, they'll be a nightmare for anybody they face even without landy, but are they actually going to get healthy?

This is another reason I’m not picking them — I called them the Ambulanche in that period you’re talking about in December

No Landeskog and Makar is trying to play through some sort of injury. Post-concussion effects? An LBI? Not sure

Can't happen as they would meet in the second round not the conference finals.

Time for Playoff predictions:

West Round 1:

1. Vegas - 4
WC2. Winnipeg - 1

I like Vegas to win a round our two and I think the Jets struggles late in the season make a first round series win to far of a stretch.

2. Dallas - 3
3. Minnesota - 4

I think knowing that the Ave's wanted to avoid the Wild speaks a lot to how well the Wild have played as of late. I like them to make nice run this year.

1. Colorado - 4
WC1. Seattle - 0

It is nice to see the Kraken get into the playoffs. I think they get swept though. I just don't see them winning at all.

2. Edmonton - 4
3. Los Angelos - 1

Oilers are for real this year and a cup favorite in my opinion. Kings will win an early game, but the Oilers cruise here.

East Round 1:

1. Boston - 4
WC2. Florida - 2

Panthers will hang tough but not be able to beat Boston in a 7 game series. It will be physical and tight, but the Bruins depth pays off for them.

2. Toronto - 4
3. Tampa Bay - 3

Leafs finally make it out of round one, but they make it hard on themselves. On paper, they should win this series, but in their heads, they make it closer than it should be. Tampa is dangerous and I think if they win this series they go off on a run again. That said, we have seen the Caps and Pens miss the playoffs finally and Kane and Toews leave the Hawks, times are changing and now it is Toronto's turn.

1. Carolina - 4
WC1. NY Islanders -3

The Islanders have more recent playoff success in getting to the ECF. Carolina has found issues in the second round and this year they are without some key pieces heading into the playoffs. I do think the Canes are good enough to win this series, but I also think it will be close.

2. New Jersey - 1
3. New York - 4

Here we are again 11 years later and for me that doesn't seem like enough time has passed in between these two teams meeting in the playoffs. I am still not over what happened in 2012 and I still hate the Devils and their fanbase for it. That series ended a lot of friendships from the vial trash talking on social media and nasty things said to me by the lowest of lowly Devils fans. If they were trying to light the fire of a rivalry in me it worked I hate the NJ Devils as a result and wish nothing but bad things on that organization and their fans.

That said, taking the heat and bias out of it; the Devils are one of the more fun youthful teams to watch. Their high scoring fast pace of play has taken the league by surprise this year. For the Rangers, the kids got a bit older and they added some Stanley Cup pedigree to the fold. NJ played better in the final 2 week and the Rangers were one of the best teams in hockey the final 2 months of the season. The way I see it, the Rangers have the experience both from last year's run and several players with Stanley Cup wins in their lineup now. The Rangers will win if they can show NJ that playoff hockey is a different beast than the regular season, be more physical and shut down the Devils offense and make these tight games. If they do that I like NY in a short series. However, if the Devils gain their footing and dictate the pace of play, I think the series goes long and NJ sends NY home early. I think the Rangers can play Devils style of hockey, but I think the would lose in the long run if they try. They need to let their playoff experience take over and be disciplined. Key stat: The Devils were one of the more dangerous teams scoring on turnovers and the Rangers are one of the worst teams that made the playoffs at turning over the puck. If NY continues that, the Devils will have a great chance to knock them out.

I’m taking the Isles here, but otherwise, I would make all the same picks

:thumbsup This was a hard one for me to call. I am one of the people who thinks the Islanders are a lot better than people think. I picked Carolina and the Rangers based on who I want to win and should win, but maybe not who I think will win deep down. As a Rangers fan, it is hard to admit that NJ and the Islanders are both very good and could easily go further than the Rangers this year.

It would be such a bummer for me if both the Rangers and Canes get knocked out. I would likely hop on the Boston and Edmonton bandwagons at that point if I was even able to watch hockey anymore this year after that :lol
