Fuck the haters, Lindros is the man. The guy did nothing but give his heart and soul to the team. Unfortunately, many people--from the organization to the fans--didn't realize it until later. I wish they would just retire his number and put him up in the rafters. He deserves it immensely. The guy was the only superstar in the city in the 90's--after the '93 Phillies run, and before Allen Iverson was skipping practice.

:lol:lol

They win three Cups and still can't sell out playoff tix. Such a joke.

Phils/Yanks; Eagles/Giants; Flyers/Rangers. Jersey has always been split being inbetween the two cities. It's such a beautiful civil war haha.

Flyers/Rangers is one of the greatest hockey rivalries and it's going to be shown at full blast on a National setting.

Let's go Flyers!

Yeah flyers are easily my number one rival as a ranger fan. Yeah, the devils are closer but there just isn't the longstanding rivalry like Philly/NYR.

Great experience today, even if the Flyers stopped playing 25 minutes early and let that bunch of pretty boy douchebags (opinion confirmed by 24/7) win. Got some awesome pictures, great memories with my dad, and our seats in 433 were fantastic.

As far as the officiating, please. Refs let a bunch go on both sides, and killed the Flyers with a quick whistle late in the 3rd, so it went both ways (as usual).

And the decision to start Bob over Bryz today was a bit puzzling. I get that Bryz has played poorly of late and I'm sure Lavie wanted to send a message, but those Rupp goals were weak as shit.

And they ignored a blatant crosscheck/boarding early in the period against NY, as well as a pretty reckless slash by Boyle, and Briere had the game tied if not for that quick whistle (had the puck in front of a wide open net 5 feet off the crease when the play was blown dead).

It was more like 70/30, but the largest concentrations of Rangers fans were in the lower level so I'm guessing they got picked up on the mics more. There weren't many Rangers fans around us at all.

Please do not act like the officiating down the stretch was not totally awful. The Flyers were given the benefit of the doubt on multiple crucial calls towards the end of the game. The replay they showed in the stadium had him facing the net with HL completely out of position and nothing between the puck and the goal line. Granted I didn't have the benefit of a million NBC replays, but it should have still been live.

At this point, it is what it is. The Flyers completely stopped playing after the 2nd and it cost them the win. Either way, the experience was awesome.

The first Rupp goal was just a decent shot through a screen. Low and near the post. Not blaming Bob for that at all. Second one was awful and totally on Bob. I really think if Bryz was in though that the game would have been 2 or 3-0 Rangers about halfway into the game....

I knew the Flyers were going to lose as soon as Schenn scored. Danny Syret did the same thing (scored his first career goal) two years ago and the Flyers lost by one. That's how the Flyers roll in WCs. They get one of their guys to score their first NHL goal, then they give up a lead and lose by one. Classic Flyers being silly.

Really lifeless performance from the Hawks against Edmonton. Pretty sad on the PP and PK. Just brutal. As far as Carcillo's hit goes, it was a 2-minute interference minor and no more. Not a shot to the head, not boarding, didn't leave his feet.

I like when players do this. It can often serve as the wake-up call a team means. Of course, sometimes it is just an ego or two that are overblown (ahem, Subban), but other times it's just two guys that are frustrated with the way things are going and it gets to a boiling point. This can usually signal a wake-up call for the whole team. And like the article says, there's usually no bad blood left behind.

I was never close to being an elite NHL player, but I've seen this have a very positive effect personally. I was on a team that was going through a big funk, and the same thing happened. We were at practice, running some drills, and I (a defenseman) put the hurt on one of our forwards. We started jawing, and before you knew it, our gloves and helmets were off and we were beating the crap out of each other. Everyone was pretty shocked, but our coach handled it well and turned it into initiating a team wide, honest and frank conversation. We all got on the same page, had a kumbaya moment, and the very next game things were different. We ended up putting together a pretty good run that year.

Not that I'm particularly cheering for the Habs to turn things around, mind you. ;)

And I LOVE how the GM has now apologized to Montreal fans for hiring a non-french-speaking coach. My hell, stick to your guns and grow a pair. Poor Randy Cunneyworth; what a position to be put in.

That is a lot of if's. Quebec should not be passed over just cause they know they could get a huge expansion fee. The word expansion scares the crap out of me anyways. We've got too many teams as is. And when you have an arena on the way with a fan base there is just too much positive there.

Yeah what a douche. That's the dumbest thing in the world. If the best coach in the world was available and he didn't speak french you'd pass him up? There is a reason the Habs have not been able to be an elite team in 20 years. Crap like this.

Very interesting read on the lack of Canadian teams in Winter Classic

Leafs/Wings would be awesome. If it's the fucking Jackets (excuse my language) I'll be pissed. Make it the Canes while we are at it. A renatch of 2002! Maybe the year after we can do the Avs and Panthers... :-/ Leafs I think would get US national interest because they are well known. Habs are too but Leafs seem to be more popular in the US and Leafs/Wings is a bigger rivalry in last 20 years because of the Norris Division. The article says Leafs/Habs would never happen and he's right there. Sad but it's true. Average sports fans would be like "huh?" But as a person who gets CBC I do like Leafs/Habs on a Saturday night.

In the end, they will televise teams that sell (sad as it is to say). I would love a Leafs/Wings game and I think it could work. It will be a long time and probably require a miracle before you see some of the south eastern teams or west western teams in the Winter Classic.

I think it's pretty obvious why they haven't had any Canadian teams in the Winter Classic. The event is catered to American fans because the ratings here are obviously nothing close to what they are in Canada. The Winter Classic is the big midseason NHL event to draw ratings for a regular season event and attempt to spike interest in American fans.

Absolutely. But at the same time if the rumor of the Jackets maybe being involved? Wings/Jackets instead of Wings/Leafs? This ain't UM/OSU here. Wings/Jackets isn't gonna spike interest in the US. Not saying it has to be the Leafs just find a rivalry that will bring people in.

There's no possible way they put the jackets in it. The tv market isn't nearly big enough. The only reason why the Nhl would put them in is to try to keep the franchise in Columbus. I don't think nbc would be pleased if the nhl tried to put the jackets in that game.

NHL has confirmed that the Winter Classic will be Leafs/Wings

having the blue jackets in the winter classic would make the NHL a true laughing stock and a puppet of Gary Bettman.

So glad it's Leafs/Wings. I have a feeling that more Americans are going to tune into than people are expecting.

Me either. That's why I inquire. I hope so. I would love to see my team get an HBO 24/7. It would be superb. The Leafs have some characters, so it would be fun to see them with the camera on them.

I think it would be awesome as well to see a storied team like the Leafs participate. But, it's a non-story for me so far, as far as I can tell. :(

The big story I'm interested in today is Rene Bourque's hearing after the elbow to the head on Niklas Backstrom last night. He was just suspended for his hit on Seabrook, and Shanny has said he will come down hard on repeat offenders. This, and the Carcillo incident, will show just how "hard" he means to come down.

Carcillo out 7 games. Not shocked.

A lot of people write about how the only untouchable prospect in the Hawks system is
Dylan Olsen, and the Hawks have an outstanding farm system. He got called up today, so I am excited.

Some of you guys might have seen the video that has been no doubt circulating concerning an attack by Flyers fans on two Rangers fans at Geno's. Broad Street Hockey reported it and then got the shock of their life:

Next time I see Travis (whenever the next game I cover most likely because I sit next to him), I'm giving him a HUGE hug. Great work by him.

Came in to post this btw: I got the best email of 2012 so far on my depressing drive home from the Duke/Temple game: I was awarded press credentials for the Phantoms/Bears game on Friday at CBP. So stoked to be back in that press box.

SLC represent! What's crazy is my brother played against him back in the day (I'm older but played with his bro). Cool to see him make it.

I laughed so hard when I read BSH today and saw that. I really hope that the police catch the guys that did the attack off of that post

Really lifeless performance from the Hawks against Edmonton. Pretty sad on the PP and PK. Just brutal. As far as Carcillo's hit goes, it was a 2-minute interference minor and no more. Not a shot to the head, not boarding, didn't leave his feet.

You Chicago fans take an interesting stance on some of the hits that your players throw

Get over Richards already. #18 is long gone and so are the games where the Flyers look like they aren't ready to play at the drop of the puck or the games where they forget that there are more than 30 mins to a hockey game. Oh wait.....

In all seriousness though, the Flyers' faithful have to hope for a situation similar to '10 (Caps/Pens) where the Bruins/Rags get bounced before playing the Flyers

Please tell me you're joking. This isn't even worth me explaining. Please watch the play again then go read the NHL rulebook entries for Boarding and Checking from Behind. Also please read the Interference section as well.

Considering his history, the seven games given to Carcillo are adequate.

I just got around to watching Sheriff Shanny's explanation of the hit and subsequent suspension. I thought he did a great job laying it out:

They have however, been much more consistent in playing a team game with a full complete effort each and every night. No excuse for the WC game, but it seems like after the Rangers tied the game up you knew the Flyers were going to lose. The Rangers are in the Flyers' head for sure. If it was any other team I would have expected them to come out on top, but for some reason, they can never get past the Rangers this year.

I'm not expecting anything huge in the playoffs this year from the Flyers. I would be satisfied with a second round loss. This is a young team, they have a lot of growing up to do, but we're in a much better situation than what we were in last year.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Rene Bourque gets five games. I was hoping they'd come down a little harder, kind of set the tone for repeat offenders. But five games is still a good chunk of time and dough.
