Welp. We'll take the two points. Especially since we were down 4-3 with :09 to go....

But the Jets did score 3 PP goals. Ugly. Flyers and Jets combined for 38 goals in 4 games! Whoa!

Just got home and watched the game I recorded earlier. Great game by the Preds tonight against Canucks. I'm gonna get a chance to go to the Blues game I think so that's gonna be fun.

That 4th goal on Bryz was brutal.

I think Bryz will find himself still. He's too good not to.

I just have a feeling that come April, he's going to be a monster, and you Philly folks will be laughing at how angry you were at him now. His presence on that team still scares me, especially now that they have solidified their blue line.

We're better than the 2010 team on paper.

A lot of people are writing us off for the playoffs, but there is something with this team that they haven't had in a few years.

kev87lads 02-22-2012 08:46 AM

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

^ I agree. There is some intangible there that this team has. Mostly with how they never give up in a game. Though most times in recent months they haven't been able to overcome the poor goaltending. But they still try.

But. That said. If he (Bryz) doesn't come around in April, it's going to be over quick. You can't overcome the horrible goals in a playoff atmosphere. They crush a team.

Well that's good there. But what I'm saying is if a 35 year old UFA costs a minor leaguer a 2nd and a 4th a 26 year old top 4 D probably does cost a 1st the Wings gave up. Still steep imo but probably was the going rate.

I think he'l find himself too I just wouldn't count on it in April. Just my feeling. Plus the last two playoffs he hasn't been stellar. Maybe he'll reverse fortunes though. Great seasons last 2 years and not good playoffs. This year crap season and good playoffs. Again I think he'll be ok just have a feeling it ain't this year.

As for the Wings last night they didn't play so well, till I passed out after 2. Howie looked good though so the thought of rust isn't there.

Talk the Wings are gonna re-sign Bert. I like him and he's turned into a nice role player but really? Couldn't wait till the offseason and see what's available first and then re-sign him if needed?

It's so difficult to predict what goaltenders are going to do, to be honest. Many of them just seem to fluctuate so much year to year, and unless you have one of the 5 best in the league, it just seems like a bad idea to spend $5m+ on a netminder. I think it is definitely better to spend the money saved on building a stronger defense.

I'm hearing the Bruins are kicking the tires on Streit. I'd love to see him as a Bruin. The guy is very underrated because he plays for Islanders. Obviously depends on the price though.

He won't help out a lot on D, but he's obviously a great offensive defenseman. He'd be a definite upgrade over Corvo.

Yea that's what I'm hoping for. Corvo has been terrible lately. Hopefully he can be what Kaberle was supposed to be last year. With 5 very solid defensive defensemen there's definitely a need for a guy that can help out offensively and on the PP.

:thumbsup He would fit in nicely on the 2nd unit.

Toews day-to-day possibly with a concussion. Not. Good.

Horton might be done for the year. He hasn't progressed much.

Vermette traded from CBJ to PHX for draft picks... Interesting to see how much of that team (Jackets) is gone after next week.

Jeffy Carter picked a nice to time to get a hatty last night.

Toews apparently suffered his concussion "early" in the road trip, but possibly as late as SJ, and was hiding it.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Nope, not good. What's bothersome is that if it occurred a couple weeks ago (or more), and hasn't gotten better, then I would worry he will be out for a while longer. Q saying "day-to-day" is usually not a good sign. But at least he's not on injured reserve...yet.

Would have loved him here in Detroit. Kinda think the Wings were scouting him. They reportedly had scouts at a few Jackets games.

I know the Hawks were in trouble not long ago but if you hide that stuff it's gonna hurt you long term. I think the Hawks would rather lose him for a little time and miss the playoffs rather than miss him well...forever. Concussions are too dangerous.

Rutuu off the market. Signed a 4 year $4.75 million extension with the Canes. Seems like a major overpayment to me.

Bron Yr Aur 02-22-2012 12:35 PM

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Yeah, I agree. At least they proved that they can play well without him last night. Going to need Kane and Sharp and Hossa to bury a few more of their chances, though. Damn, Jimmy Howard last night. He kept the Wings in that game, for sure.

Wow, way too much for Ruutu. A decent player, but....that's way too much to pay a depth player when you are last in your conference, IMO.

He better be sacrificing to some sort of god tonight for that blessing. My heavens... $4.75M?!?! That's just a tad less than James Neal's new contract in Pittsburgh, eh?

Yea I'm not sure what the Canes are thinking they're handcuffing themselves big time. Not to mention thy have Staal making around $8 million and grossly under performing. With that said I'm glad they're overpaying these guys I can't stand that team.

For comparison, Marian Hossa's cap hit is $5.275 million.
