Also no one ever accused Ovechkin of being a better defender than Crosby. But yeah, like I already said, if you’re still on the Ovie can’t or won’t play defense train, then that pretty much tells me everything I need to know about your opinion of Capitals hockey

If that’s the weirdest name you’ve ever seen then you really need to look through some rosters.

Remember that one time Carter Hutton was auto-drafted to my fantasy team and I went on to bitch about how bad my goaltending was going to suck and almost dropped him immediately? I remember that time.

And man, if you would've told me even just a year ago that the Buffalo Sabres, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Colorado Avalanche would've been in the top 5 at the quarter point of the season (and that the Kings, Blues, and Blackhawks would be at the bottom), I would've laughed you out of town.

In all, fun to see the Sabres doing well.

This goal by Matty Duchene tho... :eek

As much as I'm overjoyed with how the trade turned out for the Avs, I've never harbored any ill will towards him. Happy to see him doing well.

This... it was just something I found amusing... not really anything that requires multiple posts and dissection.

I was thinking this exact thing last night while looking at the standings.

I'd be shocked if Hak isn't gone by Sunday, especially if they embarrass themselves Saturday against the Penguins.

This is a stretch, no offense intended. Yeah, a high scoring team that is top heavy on O might be able to bulldoze their way into the playoffs but if you do not have defensemen that are solid and deep your team is not going to make much noise in the playoffs. You need guys who can shut down stars like Crosby, Ovie or Kane as much as possible, you need D guys who can pinch, shoot, hold the puck in the zone etc, etc. If anything I would say D is under-rated by a lot of people who are enamoured with high flying offenses. Yes, some D is done by the foreword but the center is the largest contributor to the defense by a long shot since the wingers pretty much cover areas or mark a man but sometimes they get caught puck watching and if that happens and the D guys are not there to help you are screwed because as good as your goalie may be it is impossible for them to be perfect if your D is making mistakes and turning over pucks in the zone and giving the opponent high quality scoring chances.

No idea how the Hawks played THAT bad last night. I shut it off and read a few minutes into the third, it was like Chicago was flat and lazy for 60 minutes except for the line of Strome, Debrincat and Kane.

Haha it's been a few years since I've run into him. I didn't see him when I covered the one playoff game, and he wasn't at the Trial on the Isle.

Sidenote: now that I'm a copy editor and design the paper, I won't be seeing much of the outside world anymore. Ah well, it pays more at least.
