the extension is not an addition. They scratched the last contract. It's now just a five year deal, not eight.

I'm not sure if it matters for a GM. They don't count against the cap and if the Leafs want to fire him and keep paying him, good for them. They can afford it.

Gotcha.Makes it a little better. But either way, what did he do to deserve an extra two years when he still had 3 to go? It's not like only had a year left. If that was the case I'd understand.

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread

Dreger tweeted that Trade talks for Franson may be heating up. He is asking for a 4.5m a year on a long term contract. If that is the case then he will be moved. The guy had a great year last year. He was top 10 in points for a D-man and 2nd in points per minutes played (next to Subban) 4 yerars at 4.5 is absurd. He is a superb Power play specialist. His shot from the point is a thing of beauty.

He did however play very sheltered 5 on 5 minutes and was shaky in the regular season in the D-zone. In the playoffs, when paired with Gardiner they were the best D-pairing on the roster. I just don't think one good shortened season and a good playoff series (in a losing effort) get you a 20 million dollar contract.

Dreger suggested a quality prospect and a high pick would be fair value for him. Any suggestions as to what they'd give up.

As an aside: All of this could be avoided if they were able to move Liles contract. He has a contract hit of 3.75 for the next three years and is still widely considered to be a quality PMD. I tried to look at cap geek and I don't see to many teams with enough cap space to make a trade where the Leafs don't take back to much Salary. Calgary? The Islanders? Something like Liles for a 4th?

A list like that can be so subjective in many ways it's not even worth it.

If Mason doesn't defeat his confidence issues then he will deserve to stay at the bottom of that list. Only way is up for him.

I actually liked that list. Not sure Mason should be that low though. Other than that I agreed more or less.

I doubt this but duh to them losing $30mil. The team lost money the year before and then handed out huge checks to Suter and Parise.

Not much going on so Pavelski gets 5 years and 30 mil.

Alazais 07-30-2013 02:47 PM

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread

Fraser signs with the Leafs for a 1 year 1.25 mil contract. Normally this wouldn't be a big deal but the Leafs have to sign Franson and Kadri still and they have just under 5 million to do that. I don't think this is going to end well. I expect Franson to be moved (assuming Liles cannot be).

All of those are incredible. I get why you can't include them all, but at least "Wish" or one of the game highlights.

Got enough Hawks ones on there? ;)

From the article the Words one is my favorite and I like the dad outside the nursery at the hospital.

I could watch all those spots I linked over and over and over a million times, and they'd still never get old.

Words is absolutely my all time favorite, but I think it's a shame none of the "History Will Be Made" ones are on there.

And yes, the dad outside the nursery was always a favorite of mine too.

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread

Hello friends. I am hoping for some advice.

I am in a GM league in NHL 13. I have an offer on the table that is, Lunqvist and a 3rd (2014) for Kipper (85 over all), Sbisa (22 year old 85 overall) Malcolm Subban (4.5 star 19 year old), and Neno Niedereitter (4.5 prospect).

I expect the 3rd will do nothing. It has no value to me. Kipper is 36 and I expect has maybe two years left. Which is hopefully enough time to get Subban up enough to play some quality games.

Is this a good deal? Would you take it?

I can't believe we're only a little over a month away from training camp. Feels like a ways off but it's not too far away. Need me some hockey.

Are you getting Hank or trading him? Just trying to figure out which side of this you are on.

I would be trading him away. I tried to push for Barertschi (however you spell his name) and he wouldn't go for it. So deal is off.

I get Brown & Eriksson back in 10 games or so, so I should be fine after that. Assuming no one else goes down.

In all fairness, that Brad May call might be my all time favorite (non-Blackhawks) call. That Matteau one is incredible too. They both give me goosebumps 100% of the time.

Even the Stevie Y one does too. Sometimes the love of hockey trumps all rivalries. Those moments just tug at a hockey fan's strings.
