It was unbelievable. It was back and forth all game, Hossa ends up with the 5 minute major with a minute left in the game while down a goal, play ends up in the Hawks zone, Erat throws the puck blindly to center ice, Kaner ties the game with 13.6 left while down a man and the goalie pulled.

THEN Hossa scores the game winner SECONDS after coming out of the box after the Hawks killed off the major penalty. Absolutely ridiculous.

That was one of three times I nearly ended up in the hospital celebrating Blackhawk victories.

Ryan Smyth is set to retire Saturday. Will go down as an Oilers legend.

I've only ever owned two hockey jerseys; One is an Oilers 3rd jersey (the one designed by Todd McFarlane) with Smyth's name and number on it, and the second? A half home/half away Blackhawks jersey I've since grade 5 (17 years).

STL sucks and it's awesome.

Varlamov, who is currently leading the league in wins, just faced his 2,000th shot of the season, also most in the NHL.

Credit to Varlamov, or indictment on their D? Probably a bit of both. What's funny is that's exactly how Varly wants it.

Anyone know with this new playoff setup, what happens if a division winner loses in the 1st rd? I am aware that the 1 seed plays the 2-3 winner in each division. I have no clue what happens if their is an upset.. :lol:lol

Aaaaaaand we've got a new Central division leader (well, with Avs holding the tie breaker).

They would still play the 2-3 winner

It's like a bracket. Look on NHL.com. They have it there.

Yeah. For the first time in 20 years we'll have a true bracket system. Teams are not re-seeded after round 1. Maybe that's what he was thinking.

Could be an interesting weekend. Wings/Canes and Jackets/TBL tonight. Wings and Jackets both have rest while the others played last night. Tomorrow Pens/Flyers will be huge for Flyers, Wings and Jackets.

eh it's out of my hands so no need to worry about it. Way too many things can happen over the next 3 days. If Wings win tonight and Jackets don't. If Jackets win and Wings don't. Then Philly and Jackets games tomorrow and Wings Sunday against the Blues. Just glad I don't have to worry about actually getting into the playoffs. Had to worry about that right up until the last day, last season. I'm so freaking excited for no 10pm starts. I was just thinking about that. Regulation games done by 10:30 at the latest is going to be great.

last year honestly was the only year that stung.

the team was in such shambles after the 09 series against the wings that there was literally no expectation.

it's funny to think about now because we would go to games just to see the best players on the other teams. we never expected the jackets to win. even last year, i dragged my one buddy to a march 6th game against the avs to see o'reilly, the jackets were the worst team in the nhl on that day but won in OT - they went 19-5-3 the rest of the season and missed the playoffs by a tie breaker. now me and a few of my friends who have been going to all of the games with me live and die with them :lol

this is a pretty good read that summarizes some of the major milestones and low points since the last jackets playoff appearance.
