I know it's bad to look ahead, and I know that whoever wins this morning will be one tough ass opponent, but this really feels like the gold medal game. So excited, so nervous.

What's the pulse like in the USofA this morning?

I haven't seen a minute of the US team play. How is this Faulk/Martin switch going to affect things? Is it going to make a difference at all?

The gold medal game and the bronze medal game will both be tough no matter which teams are in either. So should be some good hockey either way today, tomorrow and Sunday.

Ouch, not only do they loose the game but now the irs wants their cut. They gave the players $15,000 for winning a silver and the players will be taxed accordingly.

For me, it's about 30min worth between the end of the men's curling, and when the hockey game starts.

Still sucks IMO - specifically considering many other nations do not tax prizes like that. First they loose a heart breaker, then get a 'thanks for playing medal', then get a small cash prize from the olympic committee and now fedzilla wants to take likely 5k from them in tax.

I could see some logic if they wanted to tax the mens team because many of them play professionally and the cash prize and subsequent tax is peanuts to them but it blows for the women

Oh, big time. Obviously you couldn't tax just the men though. I wish there was some sort of exemption for Olympic athletes, but that's wishful thinking. I'll try not to get too political in a rant here...because I was just about to :lol

Yeah, it's just such a small amount that it's dumb to tax them.

Most of my busy stuff should be done by 12 today. Might have to do something at 1 but that should be about intermission time. *I will not yell in my office. I will not yell in my office.*

Faulk is dressing as the 7th defenseman, so not even sure how much playing time he'll even get. His skillset is similar to Martin's: Not overly physical, but still an effective shutdown guy who plays with smarts and can move the puck offensively as needed (maybe even a bit better than Martin in that regard). What he lacks is the miles that Martin already has; still a bit green.

The biggest adjustment will be for Orpik, who is now playing with Carlson. Orpik is a big boy and should be fine, but he already had a pretty established chemistry with Martin going to back to Pittsburgh. There is an adjustment period playing with a new partner that can partially be bridged in practice, but really needs a few shifts during an actual game to work out final kinks. Pay attention to that pairing throughout the first period today.
