Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
I am not surprised he didn't get suspended because I'm just not. But $2500? Are you fucking kidding me? That's less than .1% of what he makes a year. That would be like me getting fined about $25. Oh please don't take away those 2 DVD's I could buy. Players safely my ass.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
If it wasn't Shea Weber I wonder how many games he would have got.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
It's because he wasn't injured.
http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=627504 What a crock. So by that logic after this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esETGHljQi4 Chris Simon should have got nothing since Hollweg played next game. It's fine. |
Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
Basing suspensions on whether or not the guy got injured is the most asinine thing Shannahan does. The hit is just as dirty whether or not the guy gets hurt.

You are right not many are 100%. Honestly closest thing for me was Bob Cole and Harry Neal back in the day on CBC. Usually unbiased and were great. A lot of people like Gary Thorne and so do I but sometimes he could be over the top with calls. |

Which makes sense, because that's how much they all spend on dinner on a given night. |
Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
This also encourages teams to exaggerate the initial diagnosis especially in the playoffs. Knowing that the hearing was today, what if the Wings came out and said he was displaying potential "concussion like symptoms" and then after the suspension was handed down retracting the comments and saying he'd be ready to go for game 2.

Weber is still my boy, but he should've gotten at least a game for two reasons: It was dirty, and to set a precedence. Even with him on the ice for Game 2, I have a feeling there will be no serious retaliation from the Wings. They may play him harder, but I don't expect any fights. It's the Red Wings and it's the playoffs. 'Nuff said. Not saying their pussies, but they tend to take vengeance through the scoreboard. |
Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
Who do the Wings have that would actually be able to hold their own with him anyway?

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
What a bunch of bullshit.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
What's worse for the Wings? No Helm for the rest of the postseason.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
I agree that he should have been suspended for a game. However $2500 fine is the highest they can go without suspension so the figure doesn't bother me. Love Weber and I'll continue too but one game out would have sent a better message. That being said, I'm glad he's not suspended for selfish reasons.

It's kind of ridiculous, but then again the league shouldn't be able to arbitrarily fine guys however much they want. There has to be a limit. IMO, it should be more like a % of the player's salary. But what is totally insane, is that John Tortorella, coach, complains to the media about the Penguins and gets $20,000 fine. Shea Weber takes a guys head and smashes it into the glass (after missing on a punch) and gets $2500. Something very wrong with that. |

a 2500 dollar fine? what a joke.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
Ok, so does anyone know how much a guy will lose if he gets suspended a game? Does he get pay cut from the game he doesn't play? And what portion of his salary is that? Seems to me like there is a huge gap between being suspended 1 game and the max. fine.

For example, Duncan Keith is being paid $8 million this year, so: $8,000,000/82=$97,560.98*5=$487,804.88 So that's what Keith missed out on for those 5 games. |
Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
It blows me away that people get paid nearly 100k to go play a game for a few hours... Obviously there's practice, travel, etc. involved. But still... wow
