Sorry to sound dramatic, but I think if the Avs lose this game, they miss the playoffs.

Do you feel if they win this game they are in?

Probably right. Unless the Wild have another one of their losing streaks, it's basically set in the West.

My biased opinion was that second goal was horseshit

That being said Mason can't afford to get that distracted when the pucks still live. He should have whipped his mask off to stop play

If there was a contest for allowing goals within the last 10 seconds of overtime, at least the Canes could win that trophy.

Fucking refs let this game get out of hand. Hope both captains are okay

Re: The NHL Thread

I'm livid about this reffing crew. They were terrible. I would feel the same way if the Flyers somehow one. When you have one team clearly going for blood and don't do shot until it's too late you clearly don't belong in the league as a ref

Also, the Gudas hit on Doan started clean but I'll need to see a replay to see if the follow through could have been avoided at all. My quick take is that it was unavoidable but if I see proof otherwise I'll sing another tune

Re: The NHL Thread

Chippy game.

Gudas hit was dirty.

Giroux was unconscious.

Flyers should not lose to that team. #haveimentionedthisteamisinconsistant?

JRS1386 03-26-2016 10:05 PM

Re: The NHL Thread

You're calling the hit dirty? I mean I'll agree with you when I catch a replay but I'm giving Gudas the benefit of the doubt for now. Again I'll jump ship quickly if I see a clear video of the hit

kev87lads 03-27-2016 05:33 AM

Re: The NHL Thread

Yeah. The second part of it was. He didn't have to keep his shoulder and elbow where it was and finish his hit the way he did. He should have basically fallen down as well and they both could have crashed into the boards. Instead he slid on his knees, and to me, finished his shoulder into his head some more.

JRS1386 03-27-2016 06:16 AM

Re: The NHL Thread

I just watched a gif of the Gudas hit several times and I'm still on the fence. The initial hit was fine but the secondary hit to me is still iffy. Gudas had all of a second to react to him and Doan heading to the boards with Doan going down. Seems tough to react that quickly to avoid a collision

Of course the Oilers lost, but this was cool, McDavid showing that you shouldnt skate the puck in front of your own net when he's on the ice.
I'm starting to see hope with the Oilers, even to the point of thinking they don't need to blow up the team this summer, just make some tweaks, biggish tweaks, but just tweaks.

You're far more optimistic than I am.

Hope you are the right one, and not me. :)

Amen. Domi got knocked into Mason by Manning. I'm sure that's what the refs saw and that's why the goal counted. If Mason ripped off his mask ala Brodeur, the play is dead and the goal doesn't count. Simple as that.

also, anyone got replays on the hits last night? I snoozed ten minutes into the game and missed everything.

Re: The NHL Thread

never mind. just saw the hits.

Both are not suspendable. Gudas was dangerous and probably warranted a penalty. Hanzel's hit was unnecessary but doesn't result in an injury most of the time. Giroux fell awkwardly.

Thankfully was busy all Saturday afternoon and most of yesterday to avoid the debacle that was Saturday. Figures Wings had a chance to take control since the Flyers ended up losing but nope. Two winnable games today and tomorrow, although in Montreal is tough. I said a few days ago it could come down to the back to back against Philly and Boston and still looking that way.

Agree on the Giroux one. He crumbled and curled into a ball-shape for some reason.

I'd have suspended Gudas a game for the follow through and his history this year.

That was a great goal, damn. Not commenting on what Edmonton will do because honestly I have no idea but they have a franchise guy in McDavid to build around.

Always nice to clinch your playoff slot with a win and not back in somehow. Now they can take some more time gelling they lines, staying healthy and waiting for Crawford to get back. The playoff matchups in the west are going to be battles! Don't want them to slow down the pace (truthfully I'd love to see Hossa get 2 more to make it to 500 and Kane to get another to hit 40 for the year) but it is nice to have some breathing room, maybe give Darling a night off or two and rest up some of the key D men and I am damn sure no team wants to face them in the first round even if they may publicly say they are going to be happy taking on the defending champs.

Nice to see their PK clicking right now as the season winds down. That play Kane made where he saved icing, tapped it to TVR who tapped it to Teuvo who one timed it was great. Power play needs to get it in gear. Great to see them playing a bit more physical rather than pure skill, perfect example was the other night when Hamilton gave a cheapshot to Seabrook and Toews just flattened him for it. Lastly, not that it matters but I have no idea why the ref blew that play in front of the net dead when Miller clearly didn't have the puck before it was tapped well over the line for what should have been another goal.

like i said, feast or famine for the Pens...

thankfully they've been feasting a lot lately

Great week for the Rangers last week! Good game last night. First round against the Pens would be a good one. Crosby's game winner in OT was the difference maker that moved me into the second round of the playoffs in my money fantasy league hockey, so I couldn't even be mad haha

Yes indeed. I hope the feast continues into April and May. Can they keep up this style of play in the playoffs?

:lol

Rags looking good going into the Playoffs as well. Looks more and more like the Pens will be facing them in Round 1. I know the match up is less favorable for the Pens, but the Pens have taken the last 3 against the Rags, so I don't think it's as bad as it once was. It certainly won't be the shitshow that was Round 1 last season.

And Rags fans, booing Crosby is so 2008-2009.

Pens playing the way they are PLUS an effective PP would be killer

PP is still terrible without him

Oh God the PP is so awful. The 4-3 in OT last night was a bit painful to watch (even though they did have a couple of chances.) That needs to be fixed, and it seems like only Malkin can fix it. Recover quickly, Geno!

Just a friendly show of respect. Feel the same way when away fans sing Hanks name when they score on him.

Malkin would fix it for sure

but even when Malkin is out, if Sid would just fuckin play down low and forget about the fucking half wall it would be significantly better

and if Kessel would hit the net when he shoots that'd be great too
