Sitting at The Joe last night, they are playing some promotional video, and I'm sitting there watching and seeing Datysuk (injured), Zetterberg (injured), Weiss (injured), Ericsson (injured). There was only one player shown in that short video that was actually playing that night.

Datsyuk skating with the team at practice. Not with the line combos though so probably not playing tomorrow. They need him back badly. Maybe they'll get lucky and he'll be back Sunday. They need at least 3 points this weekend.

I've played it once this year during my season and got burned Quick style. My best friend who's a defenseman yelled at me so now I only play it behind the net when we're on a powerplay and gets cleared in my end haha.

So Charles Wang looking to sell his majority stake in the Isles. Gotta be a good thing going forward. While he seems to have been fighting to keep the Isles in the NY area, they gotta get a better GM and an owner who lets the GM make the hockey decision. Yes he has the final say when it comes to taking on salary but that should be wear it ends in player decisions for the owner.

Was unfortunately rooting for the Flyers tonight....good to see they won. Will be an interesting race between the Caps/Wings/Jackets for the 2 final playoff spots. Looks like the Flyers and Rangers will make it if they don't take a big dump. And looks like the Leafs already sat down and opened the flood buckets

Brohan_Santana 03-29-2014 03:07 AM

Also the Red Wings 22 season playoff streak will be in jeopardy. The sharks (9), bruins (8), penguins (7) will all extended the streak. The next in line is the Caps at 6 consecutive seasons. Bets are the wings and caps still continue

Just read an article where LeBrun was making end of year trophy predictions, and the guy must have brought up the corsi at least 10 times as his primary arguments for why certain players should be included. Made me want to gouge my eyes out. It seems like in the past year or so it's become the new trendy thing for nhl personalities to talk about. But what's funny to me is it's only analysts that bring it up. You never hear Craig Berube say, "I dropped Vinny to the 4th line because his Corsi hasn't been great" or Jamie Benn say, "you know, I've really been trying to improve my Corsi rating lately."

Yeah, yeah, i know you numbers guys are already forming your replies to this, so let me just say I do sorta see its value as an analytic tool. I'm just not comfortable with it replacing the act of actually WATCHING a player play. That and how everybody and their dog are now talking about it (except Berube and Benn, of course ;) )

This irritates me as well, but I've learned to keep it to myself. Playing D most of my life, I've learned that goalies need to feel like they are in control; being in the right place mentally is such a key component of their game, as you probably know quite well. So I've learned over the years to just communicate with my keeper and try to figure him out a bit. If I'm playing with a goalie I've never played with, I always chat with him during warm ups to get a feel for his tendencies, and also let him know that he's perfectly welcome to yell at me, whack me in the shins, whatever if I'm in his way. That confidence and 2-way communication can go a long way.

So, when he does come out and play the puck, hopefully I know enough about him to anticipate it a bit... even if I'm cussing him out in my head for doing so. If a gaffe leads to a goal or something, I try to just say something like, "no worries, next time that happens, you can leave it for me and I'll take it." The worst thing you can say is something that will rattle their confidence even more, cuz you know how that'll just snowball for a 'tender.

Silly goalies :rolleyes ;)

Got to question the scheduling having NY on this 4 game western trip this close to the end of the season. Only one game, but it could turn into a 4 game losing streak really fast. Just wondering if any other teams have crazy road trips with less than ten games to go?

I know it wasn't quite less than 10, but the Capitals just had to do the Cali run last week. That was with less than 15 to go. I think it's just the way it goes...I know the Kings have been playing games in the East for a week now and they're fighting for playoff position as well

Happens a lot is what I'm trying to say

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread

Not sure I really agree with the notion that it'll take 92 points to obtain a wild card in the East. All 4 of the teams in the mix are fairly inconsistent teams, and with only 18 points still available for three of those teams, it'll take two of either WSH/DET/CBJ going 6-3 and TOR going 6-1 to get there. I could easily see none of those teams winning 6 more games. I see the cut off being more like 88, which is pretty low but like I said, all 4 of the teams fighting for the two spots are inconsistent and none are really that good

What the fuck is Corsi? I thought you were mentioning an Avs player because beyond wife beater and Duchene I'm at a loss for knowing them

I refuse to learn anything about CORSI because I know it will just be a fad. Matty, you hit the nail on the head. Nothing can ever replace the act of watching a player play. You also have to consider the various situations and intangibles like heart and determination.
