Again, I think the trade was made more for wanting to GAIN a player than MOVE one. I will concede that perhaps they thought, "we really want to get a guy like Talbot, but who can we give up for him? Parenteau? No. Johnson? No. Tanguay? No. Stastny? Not worth it right now. Downie.... hmmm, maybe. He's good, but not a foundation player... and he and Landy hate each other right now. Ok we can pull that off."

I see that as more the reason than Joe picking up the phone, calling Holmgren, and saying "I want Steve Downie off my team, who will you give me for him?" The acquisition of Talbot just seems like such a calculated move to land an attitude they really wanted.

So yes, I can perhaps concede that the alleged Landy problems may have factored into a move, but I really don't think they were the SOLE reason.

But that's just me.

I think your point is 100% valid. They saw a need to fix the penalty kill, and possibly knew the only way to acquire Talbot, and his reasonable salary, was to give up Downie who is no doubt a Berube type guy.

Definitely. Downie was born to be a Flyer. Hope he gets better so he can show Flyers fans how much he's grown up. I think people still think of him as just getting suspended all the time, but he's really matured in terms of knowing when to chill out. Very Cooke-ish.

I still think Talbot was acquired more for attitude than anything he does on the ice. Their penalty kill was already #1 in the NHL, so no need to really fix it, although he certainly makes it even better IMO.

Kings will be getting to test their ability to be flexible with their roster. Carter out, Stoll left during the last game and hasn't practiced all week and now Greene is "banged up" and didn't practice today.

Tomorrow will be interesting, at least it's against Buffalo, which I know isn't a guarantee especially seeing last nights game. I'm also worried because the Kings have not played since Saturday.

That Patrick Kane fella is one heckuva hockey player, eh? Just put on a stick handling clinic and drew a penalty along the way.

Last night was Varly's first bad game of the season. Thinking about jail time maybe?

Kudos to the Rinne-less Preds who pounced on the opportunity and played a great job of choking up the neutral zone and making quick transitions to offense.

Last night reinforces to me that the way to beat the Avs is apparent: clog up the neutral zone. It's where they get all their speed.

Tough night for Pardy. The helmet thing is funny but pouring beer on him? Was that an ant?

I was crying :lol:lol If the guy wasn't hammered he should have tucked the helmet under a hoodie and bounced towards the door. Worth the price of admission right there.

say what you want about the helmet/beer situation last night; but those people are assholes. The helmet thing is hilarious but that doesn't mean he isn't a penis, and the woman is a bitch. they suck.

HallowBillies7 11-07-2013 05:25 PM

Only a woman would waste a $8-9 beer. I'd break up with her if that was my girlfriend.

one of the best lines ever was at a Bruce show this woman in front of us said "please don't spill any beer on me during the show" and my cousin immediately went "the only place i'm spilling beer is in my mouth." I use it whenever I can.

I got up to take a piss and twitter exploded with it. Matt Frattin apparently had a pretty big hit on McCormick and Myers didn't like it.

A bunch of Sabres beat writers/Buffalo News people are saying it was a hit to the head on McCormick.... they're a bit sensitive after the John Scott thing.

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread

Looks like a hit to the head, but McCormick didn't exactly put himself in a good position.....
