A wildcard spot is a distinct possibility, which is something I wouldn't have imagined possible at the start of the season.

Anyone know much about hockey cards? I have a bunch of them going back to the early 1980's in damn good condition because they have been sitting in binders since I got them but they are not graded by some authority. I have a Moose rookie, Yzerman rookie, Sakic rookie, Hull rookie, Roenick rookie, Crosby, Ovie, Kane, Toews, Tarasenko, Malkin, Benn, Kessel, etc, etc - hell I even have a Kane minor league card that is actually graded as mint. Have no clue what any of them are worth though, not that I would get rid of them but it would be nice to know what they are worth. Sure do wish I had a mint Gretzky rookie I could get over 50 grand (tax free) on eBay for though! :)

At least McAvoy is slated to be in the playoffs, not so much for Vancouver.

Bergeron will have a greater affect than McAvoy, but Chuck will be missed.

Sorry Matty, that goal by Gustafsson was going in whether it bounced off your D man or not, if that pass got through Kane had the easiest goal of his career parked in a spot where Varley had no chance if that pass got through. Barrie is impressive.

Edit - MacKinnon is a beast, smart penalty by Toews to deny him a 1 on 1 with JF Berube. Also, Varly looks a little off tonight for some reason, like he is moving in slow-mo.

Wow Matty, Avs just caught a huge break when Saad's goal was called back for a kicking motion. Yeah he kicked it but he kicked it to his stick and pushed it in with the stick as well.

Edit, I will take that one 9 seconds into OT. Talk about a clinic - Keith to Kane to Toews to the back of the net! Tic tac toe!

Also, despite a lousy start Varly settled down until OT anyhow but on that game winner there wasn't much he could do to stop that.

You guys got a point out of the game though, they will have to go on a streak now to get into the playoffs but they are certainly in better shape than the Hawks who need to basically win out and get some help just to make the playoffs and I am not sure they can swing that given their opponents in the games remaining.

Saad's goal probably should have counted.

Varly was great. The team did not play all that great in front of him, an off-night for them for sure. A lot of mistakes. Chicago did not play all that well either, but that OT goal was something special and Berube was strong.

And sorry bud, I'm not just saying this to be mean or something, but the Blackhawks aren't going to make the playoffs this season. They are 11 points back of the last wildcard spot with 15 games remaining and 3 teams between, the lowest with an 8 point lead on them. I admire you for not giving up hope and it's kinda sad to see such an amazing success streak come to an end, but it will this year.

As for the Avs making the playoffs, I'm not too concerned. If they make it, they will lose in the first round. That's not defeatist, just reality. They are not yet good enough to compete with the Nashvilles and Winnipegs in a playoff series. If they do make it, great! What a cool story and turnaround from the disaster and drama of last season. But no matter what, this season has already been a success. The emergence of MacKinnon as an elite superstar, of Rantanen as a real threat (he's only 20, guys), EJ as a #1 defender, Zadorov as legit, the handling of the Duchene trade, etc.

There's a lot to be excited about as an Avs fan, regardless of playoffs.

(but still, it would be awesome if they made it!)

I thought both teams played great last night, both teams were quick, made good passes and created opportunities which the goalies dealt with. Up until OT anyhow, I don't even think CO touched the puck because CHI put one in right out of the drawing board - yeah, they are not having a good year but I doubt many goalies are thrilled to see Kane streaking down the wing with the puck with Toews as the pass option.

I am realistic about the Hawks playoff chances, while not mathematically eliminated it will take a minor miracle to even make it at this point. They dug themselves too far of a hole, Crawford kept them in the hunt despite little run support and a mediocre defense but when he went down they fell flat and all the vulnerabilities were exposed. I can think of two things that have driven me nuts this year such as losing games (at least 10 points worth) against teams like Arizona, Ottawa, or Buffalo and t hen come out the next game and play great against elite teams. Yeah, I will continue watching, cheering and hoping for that miracle but somehow I know deep down that they are not getting in and even if they do they are likely to get blown out in the first round. Despite past success this might just be Q's last season here, he has made more coaching blunders this year than I could fit in a warehouse, maybe they dump him and promote Dineen!

Agreed that MacKinnon and Rantanen now playing at a whole different level and it is fun to watch you also have some up and coming players who can be impactful so the future is bright - though I do wish Varly controlled rebounds better, IMO he is more of a shot blocker than a saver but regardless he is getting it done. I do hope they make the playoffs where anything can happen - I mean seriously, did anyone expect the Preds to make the final after knocking off 3 good teams last season? What I really admire about them is that to the best of my knowledge they do not have any jerks (on or off the ice) or dirty players on that team unlike other teams including the Hawks who had that dirty goon Hayden for half the season.

Great game, lot of fun to watch and I hope the Avs go on a tear and end up with a WC slot. I do not see many CO games (mainly because they generally play at the same time as the Hawks) but that will chance and if they are playing at the same time as Chicago I will just use my NHL package to watch them the following day because they look slick. Good luck going FWD Matty, I wish your Avs nothing but success - unless they are playing the Hawks! :lol

At least five to six right now, and it's still coming down hard. I would say an inch a hour if not more. It's supposed to clear out by nine. But the roads are pretty bad.
