Re: The NHL Thread (where home field advantage matters!)
Uhhhh...so what's the tie breaker for the championship? Because if Kesler wins 10 more faceoffs, that's exactly what we're going to have.

Re: The NHL Thread (where home field advantage matters!)
Longest WHL game in history right now. Going to be going into 5th OT.

So. I'm back to work today for the first time since 2/16. (Yay paid paternity leave!)
Anywho. Got to go to the Flyers/Rangers game at the Garden last night. In a suite. It was so awesome. |
Re: The NHL Thread (where home field advantage matters!)
Congrats Chris on the championship. Came down to the wire!

Re: The NHL Thread (where home field advantage matters!)
Canes recalled Bryan Bickell 5 months after he was diagnosed with MS. In the AHL he has 1 goal and 3 assists in 10 games. Considering Carolina is all but eliminated I expect to see him get some ice time tomorrow night in Minnesota. I hope he gets a nice reception (shame his first game back is not at home or a road game in Chicago but I think the Wild will do right by him), good luck wishes and plays a solid game.

On a related note someone I think is going to sign Spencer Foo for a steal. He's just as good as Vec and maybe has even better upside. He's also a year younger. He had 2 goals against Cornell in Lake Placid. He's just in Vecs shadow. |

No NHL participation in the 2018 Olympics.
Am I the only one who doesn't care? |

Can they actually stop players from going? Hard for me to see guys like Malkin and Ovi not just saying fuck it and playing anyway.

This is why we have lockouts.

Re: The NHL Thread (where home field advantage matters!)
Just to be clear - this is a huge deal that spans beyond just the Olympics. If anything is telling here, it's that the NHL will use everything and anything to be a bargaining chip during CBA negotiations.
These things do not happen in a vacuum. Even if the Olympics aren't your thing, this is a sign of the larger problem with the Gary Bettman/Donald Fehr NHL/NHLPA era. Fehr is known for being really good for the players, and Gary is known as good for the owners, but that comes at the cost of things like this. This will come up when the current CBA expires. If the NHL doesn't (I don't know why the hell they would) by Sept. 1, 2019, I can guarantee the NHLPA will opt out by Sept. 19, 2019 when they can. We're quickly walking into losing part of the 2019-20 season because there are 0 acts of good faith by the NHL. Everything is a hard negotiation. Edit: Also - just in case anyone needed proof it's "grow the game" mantra is bullshit, look no further than this. |
Re: The NHL Thread (where home field advantage matters!)
Ted Leonsis was quoted back in December he would support the player (specifically Ovi) in this instance. Will be interesting to see where this goes.
I saw the NHL also told owners to not discuss olympic participation with their players at the current time. |
