If you have firefox, do crtl F, type in 9 and hit highlight all.

Got it, I only had safari on my computer at work.

That was worth downloading firefox.

Classic offseason post, but NHL Network just released their top 20 forwards in the NHL list. Let's discuss:

Corey Perry shouldn't be on there.

Re: The NHL Thread

Connor McDavid being that high on the list already is ludicrous. Already better than Patrice Bergeron? Give me a break.

Kucherov over Backstrom?

Kane over Crosby?

Johnny Hockey over Giroux?

Hmm....

They are looking at Kucherov in the playoffs the last two years but I take Backstrom over him easily. Kane over Crosby?

The NHL has to tout the Future of the league, amirite? Austin Matthews will probably be on this list next year in the Top 15.

Seriously, though, he's not better than Bergeron yet.

They probably had to give it to Kane for being the scoring leader and regular season MVP, which is fine. I'll take Crosby being a Stanley Cup Champion and Conn Smythe winner over being #1 on this list any day. :) They are pretty much 1a and 1b at this point.

Edit: Where's Phil the Thrill? List is bogus. :lol

Depends on how you look at it too. Building a team from scratch? You probably take Crosby over Kane because centers are more important at the start. Based off last year? Probably go about a tie.

List is questionable in a lot of areas. Some of them mentioned already.

One of my favorite NHL stories. I know it's been around for a long time, but worth revisiting.

"You are not allowed to speak to Mr. Sakic."

Re: The NHL Thread

I loved Hullie. He was so much fun to listen to and watch here. Also makes me wonder had Avery been able to stick around with the older guys (was traded as part of the Mathieu Schneider deal in 03) maybe he wouldn't have been quite as big of a douche. Hull even commented as much during that old ESPN the season documentary saying Avery talks so much he made Hull seem like he was silent and he just needs to learn.

It's so crazy that this was what? 2002? That's like the tail end of the Avs-Wings rivalry. Certainly not as heated, but all those guys were still there. And after all the hate and admonishment from both sides, you still have players telling their teammates, "no, you do not get to say anything to him."

Yeah, things had calmed down a bit by then for sure, but it's still really cool.

There's certain players that come through the NHL that earn this reverence that's almost beyond normal respect for veterans, and Sakic was one of them. I think it usually came from the class, humility, and hard work they exhibited throughout their careers. Guys like Lidstrom, Yzerman, and Bourque are other examples. Guys wouldn't cheap shot 'em, wouldn't chirp at them, etc. Really cool.

Re: The NHL Thread

2002 that beat the ever loving shit out of each other part was gone and was more of a respect type hatred cause they were 2 of the best teams in the league. Still fun. Probably the best overall series they ever had against each other. 96, 97 and 99 were all 6 games but they weren't all that close in reality. Matty's right there was a respect out there. They "hated" Sakic in a I hate that you beat us.

I know there's a thread for him and I think Chris and Tim were in there. But since he played, loved, and knew what he was talking aboot regarding our favorite sport.... RIP to ESPN's John Saunders.

Re: The NHL Thread

Saunders was supposed to be one of the leaders for the World Cup of Hockey for ESPN...

Re: The NHL Thread

Saunders definitely deserves a mention in here. RIP to a great hockey personality and greats sports personalities. He was truly one of the best. Selfishly, it's super disappointing to learn he was gonna lead the World Cup coverage, I would've loved to hear him behind the mic talking/calling hockey again.

Re: The NHL Thread

Yeah, him and Bucci were going to be in the studio with Chelios and Brett Hull (and Adnan Virk? I don't know who that is).

Wonder who will replace him. Steve Levy is calling games, so I don't know. Either way, it won't be as good.

barbogast 08-10-2016 07:44 PM

Re: The NHL Thread

No, it won't be. That's just too sad.

On a related note, totally blows this tournament happens during baseball season. How amazing would it be if they got Thorne on board?

Re: The NHL Thread

Saunders is a good guy, but honestly, I cannot stand that ESPN has this tournament.

I'd never heard of Jamie Oleksiak of the Stars until his 16 year swimmer sister Penny suddenly became the most loved Canadain of the moment.

Glad to see Saunders got a mention. Good job guys. Rip Mr Saunders.

Re: The NHL Thread

So speaking of the play by play, Levy will do it, who else? Bucci? They bringing Doc over? I like Bucci in studio but he's not a good play by play guy, no offense to him. Not that I could do it but he's no Levy, Doc, Strader, Thorne or anyone else I might be missing from the ESPN/ABC days.
