Caps out playing Flyers in all facets of the game. Believe it or not, but Mason is the only thing keeping Flyers in the series.

Yesterday was surprisingly not a chippy game by either team. Very shocked to see neither team trading shots last night. But Ovechkin putting Schenn into the bench [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji119][emoji119][emoji119]

It'll be interesting to see how they come out tonight. They dominated early in the first game but Tampa was able to capitalize on the few early chances we got.

I love the production from Johnson and Kucherov these first two games but other guys are going to have to step up like Namestnikov, Callahan, and Filppula. As long as Bishop is in net they'll be in any game they play but not having Stamkos and Stralman still concerns me for the long term outlook of this playoff run.

I could definitely see the Wings taking this one tonight in front of the home crowd. If we can split these two in Joe Louis then I would agree it probably ends in game 5.

Re: The NHL Thread

A lot of these series are not going the way I imagined they would so far.

Surprises:

Kings down 2-0. (or Sharks being up 2-0 if you want to look at it that way).

Preds getting the upset in game 1.

Malkin coming back and the Pens lose the game.

Not Surprised:

Caps up 2-0 and cruising.

Tampa Bay up 2-0 and cruising.

Hawks winning game two.

Stars killing it.

Rangers and Pens trading blows.

Panthers and Icelanders have no defense and shaky goalies.

Mrazek starting tonight. I smell desperation. It wasn't Howie's fault in the first two games at all. Mrazek is gonna need to play like last year against Tampa to get them back in this series and he hasn't shown that the last couple months.

Sharks/Kings series far from over. If you were paying attention in the regular season, Sharks are god awful at home. Only playoff team I think with a losing record at home. They play very well on the road for some reason. Won't be surprised at all if Kings even up series in the road

Honestly, when you have a playoff record like the Sharks and Caps have you really can't count any series over until they get that fourth win.

The Kings are also known for coming back from this (especially against the Sharks).

Yeah, they can't seem to close a series out against a good team. Series probably goes 7 games and ends with the Kings winning at home.

Exactly, it is a software company and most of us work from home the majority of the time but go to the office when needed. Personally speaking when I have to go down there it is a royal pain in the ass, I have to drive from CT, into NY, then cross the GWB, hop on the pike and buzz down nearly to the PA border. It is over a 2 hour drive and all the damn tolls drive me insane - we do not have tolls in CT but we just expense them for those drives to south Jersey. I usually head down Sunday night, check into a hotel, go grab a meal and a beer or 2 then go to bed and then after work on Thursday I hop in my car and drive back up here and work from home Friday.

I would say 5on5, especially Game 2, the Flyers have been even if not better than the Caps. Holtby absolutely stood on his head yesterday for a lot of the game.

I think he can too. A little over a year ago he was an NHL All Star before he got hurt. He struggled when he can back it's not unheard of. He started the year strong but lost confidence mid-season but got it back and his team was the one who let him down late in the year.

He might still be here next year if they get Mrazek to a bridge deal and can move Pavel's contract. He's more tradeable a year from now with only 2 years left and Vegas as a team who could get him for free so maybe someone bites to not lose him to Vegas.

High 1st rounder by the kings in 2007. My brother has always liked him more than me and has often said he'd be an all star if he was 6'2. Of course, we'd have never gotten him off waivers when he struggled early in his career if he was that tall.

Is that a recent list? That was true for many years because Wang spent no money on the team and had a shoestring budget. We only got to the cap due to the buyout contracts and unattainable bonuses. Then you he didn't always charter the best flights and nickeled and dimed the team for everything. Plus the locker room at the coliseum was smaller than most college teams.

He obviously spends more money now on the team. Barclays has had some recent ice issues the last couple of weeks but it wasn't like that all year and the facility is top notch compared to what the players had at the Coliseum. I'm really curious to know when that list was made.

Sorry Sarah, missed that last night. Yeah pretty much this. If you go to a regular season game, the upper bowl will be close to full at faceoff and the lower bowl is never 100% and it doesn't look anywhere near full until about 10 minutes in. Yay big $$$$. Sad thing is, it was technically a sell out last night.

For Barclay's is a dumb reason, if that is the reason. Yeah it's stupid and all of that, don't get me wrong but I'd rather be playing there in Brooklyn instead of the old leaking building. Now had they got a new building out there...then fine but I think JLA is way beyond her years, Nassau was worse. Fun place to see a playoff game sure but....

Also wow Ducks. I know we've come to expect it from them but wow, I thought they might finally have it together. Not over though. If they can wake up, they can make a comeback of it. Maybe they'll want Jimmy Howard in the off season.

My thoughts on last night. Offense still fucking sucks. They played a great game overall but holy fuck they can't score. They need to do something this offseason to address it. Whether it's the system or they need to pay up to get Stamkos to get a shot in the arm, I dunno. That game looked like, ironically, game 3 against TBL last year. Stingy beyond belief and Mrazek doing what he does. While he didn't face much, he made the saves when he had to. Nice to see him get a game like that cause he hadn't in the last month or so. They are gonna need another game exactly like that tomorrow to have any chance of coming back.

I don't like this idea, and am almost 100% sure the league would never go for it, but wanted to bring it up for discussion. The argument that one of the Pens or Rangers will be gone in round 1, that's always gonna be a problem in today's NHL. If the argument that a top team might get knocked out. Just start in the conference finals then. In 98 and 99 the top 3 teams in the East were out in round one. In 2003, the Western Finals was the 6th and 7th seed. If you want the top teams to always advance, go watch the NBA. The NHL wants rivalries and 1-16 wouldn't get that. I mean hell, you can see the hate building up between the Wings and Lightning because of the last 2 playoff years.

As for Zatkoff’s comment about what's the difference between 2 hours and 5 hours on a plane...ask the Wings and Jackets if there is a difference. Ask the Stars how much they like it or liked it back when they were in the Pacific.

True, but I can see shifting time-zones frequently being a problem for some.

It's an interesting idea that's been floated around, but as Tim said, the NHL is currently more concerned with having rivalries in the playoffs. The current format achieves that, and I don't see them changing again anytime soon.

I have mixed feelings on it. First and foremost, there will ALWAYS be upsets in the NHL playoffs. The teams are too close in talent for it to never happen.

That said, from a best of the best true bracket standpoint...I don't hate 1 v 16 and to hell with east v west. It would probably have allowed that Kings v Hawks series to be the SCF a few years ago...which it probably should have been (and that is coming from a Rangers fan).

The issue is that building rivalries would be almost impossible to do under that format.

The most true statement is that the regular season mean shit right now. I tend to agree with that line of thinking. I would rather see them shorten the season to be honest.

Also, the current format allows the east to have playoffs that don't really matter. It masks how much better the west is until the finals.

Yeah, I think Hawks bounce back in game 4 to even the series and then the last 3 games are going to be battles. I expect Shaw or Ladd to give some shots to Ott after he ripped Toews helmet off yesterday.

As for Zatkoff’s comment about what's the difference between 2 hours and 5 hours on a plane...ask the Wings and Jackets if there is a difference. Ask the Stars how much they like it or liked it back when they were in the Pacific.

Not just the Penguins and Rangers IMO, both St. Louis and Chicago are capable of winning a cup but are facing each other in the first round unfortunately.

Flyers have played well in the first two games and I think the energy of the Wells Fargo Center will get them going and I think they can finally solve the riddle of Braden Holtby. Flyers 3-1 tonight

So a stat I just saw for our resident Caps fan. Caps have NEVER gone up 3-0 in a best of 7 series. That's pretty incredible.

Sharks can't win at home for beans so I think your Kings are going to even this up quick.

Caps over Flyers 2-1 is my best guess. Will be a very close and interesting game.

Dallas game is going to be another joke, Minnesota really has no business in the playoffs. The Avs would have been a more interesting first round matchup.

That is pretty incredible. They do need to find a new way to collapse, though. ;) (I keed, I keed.)

Yeah I knew that. At least they've never blown one if those...

:lol Glass half full huh?

Then there is the Sharks who seem to specialize in blowing 3-1 or 3-0 series leads, often to LA! :)

I like the positive vibes.. Would be absolutely huge if the flyers can get on the board first. Caps will take the crowd of it with an early lead gotta avoid that.

I'd really like for game 4 to mean something as I will be in attendance.

The Sharks are pretty much the West's version of the Caps. :lol

I don't think the problem is actual flight time, it's changing time zones so much. At least with East v. West you're at MOST changing two time zones, but adding that third makes it so tough. There are some early games in round 1. Could you imagine the LA Kings playing in a 2 p.m. game in New York? That's horseshit. That's 11 a.m. for them. Those 2 p.m. games are a lot more controllable when it's the SCF.

you realize 2:1 odds doesn't mean 50/50 right?

if a team has 2:1 odds, that means they have a 66% chance of winning
