Man, a lot of people going to games tonight. I myself will be at the Pens-Caps game tonight. Here's hoping Malkin is in the line up. Without him and Fleury (as well as the other obvious players), this might not be pretty for the pens tonight.

Yeah. Could get ugly, but I'll be there as well. I'm done counting this team out. Sid being cleared for contact is great. It's october, this team will be there come April. No worries in October.

5-1 win for the Isles. 4 points for Tavares in the 1st. Took it too them early & often and gave Stamkos & co. little to work with. If we can pull out a win vs the Rag$ on saturday, we'll have the 3-1 start I was hoping for since we opened with 4 straight at home.

Tavares is only gonna keep getting better. Things are looking up on Long Island.

Beagle got knocked the fuck out. That was embarrassing, I'm not sure what he was thinking fighting Asham. Pens outplayed Washington the whole game. Their lack of discipline shoulda cost them the game. Way too many selfish penalties. They got lucky with that overtime pp.

Yeah I mean what's Asham supposed to do there, apologize? He won a fight with a killer knockout punch. Every right to celebrate. Beagle never should've involved himself in the first place.

Got back from the game like an hour ago. Entertaining game overall, the arena was rocking for a good amount of the third period. Thoughts...

-James Neal, holy shit.
-Knuble scored his 1,543rd goal against the pens, all of which have been shot from about a foot away from the goal.
-Malkin seemed to be everywhere, though he did look like a zombie on a few shifts.
-I think Letang was either hung over or drunk in the first period. I think he fell over and/or made a bad pass at least 10 times
-Asham -> :twak <-Glass Joe Beagle
-Whatever Pittsburgh official thought it was a good idea to plan downtown road construction during hockey season should be fired. Took me 30 minutes to drive 30 miles into downtown and about an hour to travel less than 2 miles and park. Got my ass in my seat just before Lemieux dropped the puck thankfully.

He knows what it takes to win and he always puts team first. Couturier has a lot to learn from Briere, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

You know how everyone got upset when the pics with Richards and Carter and the girls surfaced on the internet?

There are pics of Giroux and Briere shit-faced with a couple of girls as well (the girl, who happens to be a porn star, has her head on Briere's shoulder). Not too long after that pic is when Briere got divorced.

Just saw the highlights of the game on ESPN.com. Holy shit. It's not often you see an actual knockout punch in a hockey fight, but damn, Asham caught him flush on the jaw, and Beagle fell like a ton of bricks.

Whoa, someone has it out for Briere.

While I don't deny that the picture or situation exists, let's be real here for a second. Briere has two kids, do you really think he's spending all of his time with alleged porn stars? My guess is no. Briere is a grounded individual, much more than Richards is at the moment. And why do I think that? Because Briere is older, has a family, and seems much more involved in the community than Richards ever was during his time here.

Another thing, it appears to me that you were implying the photo might have something to do with his divorce. While I don't condone their actions, one possible explanation might be that Briere around this time might have found out that his wife was cheating on him with that state trooper.

Carcillo did well. He actually drew a penalty instead of taking any of them himself which is nice, and he made a nice little play on the boards on that beauty of a goal by Kane from Hossa. Those two will both have huge years if they stay healthy. Kane could get his 90-100 points this year.

I didn't think Emery was that bad last night. The first two goals were redirects (even tho they went through the 5-hole), the third goal was terrible, but he held firm in the 3rd period, 11/11 saves when you needed him.

Yeah he seemed to settle in. It has to be remembered that this guy hasn't played a lot over the past three seasons and has been on a couple different teams during that time. It may take a bit at first, but he did seem to get into a groove towards the end. He's still fairly young and has potential.

I love how people are calling the Asham/Beagle fight one-sided, making it out to seem like Asham is this huge Goliath who grabbed Beagle and forced him to fight.
According to THN.com,

Asham: 5-11/205
Beagle: 6-3/200

Ditto, it's all over the hockey world today. Sure, it was somewhat uncalled for but in the heat of battle you do things you otherwise wouldn't do. He instantly apologized after the game, and had already reached out to Beagle personally as well. It should be a huge non-issue imo.

100 level at the UC is a good view but the atmosphere everytime I have sat there has been completely lifeless. Although I will be experiencing another 100 level atmosphere Tuesday got 4th row off the blueline for Hawks-Yotes.

I really like the way the 3rd line has been playing the past 2 games. If Frolik ever starts to finish they are going to be very dangerous this year.

One gripe I have about this team defensively is how loose the coverage is on the opposing team D at the points. Let way too many shots get through un pressured and like last night 2 of them get deflected in. Would like to see that tighten up a bit.

I was in 119, and the sight lines were just brutal. I kept losing the puck, and whenever the puck wasn't in my end, I couldn't see shit. Had to look up that the jumbotron.

I've been in the 100 level a couple times, but 95% of the time I'm up in the 300 level. 1000x better experience, IMO.

Sitting behind the net on the lower level at any arena gives you the best vantage point imo. There's no angles where you can't see the puck.

Yeah, but can be difficult to see action at the other end.

I love center ice, about 20 rows up.

I've always been partial to seats about 2/3rds of the way up an arena's 100 level, ideally looking over the goalie's shoulder. Perfect vantage point of the entire ice, including the far end. 300 level works fine, too, though.

I love center ice, about 20 rows up.

First couple rows of the upper deck for me.

:thumbsup:thumbsup. I guess, coming from a guy who's only been to a handful of NHL games (but a ton of AHL and ECHL:rolleyes) due to his... unfortunate... geographical location, any seat is a good seat for a pro hockey game!

Hmmm, interesting point of view from Brooks Laich:

Quote:

“I really don’t care about that awareness crap,” [Brooks] Laich said. “To be honest, I’m sick of hearing all this talk about concussions and about the quiet room.
“This is what we love to do. Guys love to play, they love to compete, they want to be on the ice. How do you take that away from someone? We accept that there’s going to be dangers when we play this game. We know that every time we get dressed.
“I don’t know, sometimes it just feels like we’re being babysat a little too much. We’re grown men and we should have a say in what we want to do.”
I see what he's saying... but I wonder if he'd be singing a different tune if he'd ever experienced a serious concussion. What would Paul Kariya say? Ian Lapperriere? Eric Lindros? Keith Primeau?

in Lappy's case though he willingly went down and blocked a shot. About half those guys got concussions from head shots or dirty hits.

Yes, but then he went ahead and played, later admitting he was having symptoms. In hindsight, he may think differently now.

:thumbsup Have an awesome time. I'll be watching the stream on frontrowsports. They better have a link to the MSG broadcast. I miss going to games in Buffalo. My folks had season seats from the moment the Sabres started up in 1970 until the end of last year.

Anywho, was at the Hawks game last night. Followed it up with a tour of the Gold Coast (bar area for non-Chicagoans) until 4 am. Good night. Bring on the Bruins.

yeah the next time I can find the time to make it to a game we should definitely do that, I don't know why we haven't before. I'm going to be at less games this year with medic school starting a week from Monday. The only game I have lined up so far is down in STL the first weekend in December.

Streaming the Buffalo broadcast of the Sabres' home opener. RJ (Sabres' announcer, for those of you not following them) just introduced the entire team and staff. Amazing that I recognized the name of the Sabres' head equipment manager from my years as a kid reading Goal! magazine (I think most, if not every, NHL franchise used it as their game program, with local modifications made). Same dude that was behind the bench at my first game in 1983 is still there.

Nice sellout crowd at the First Niagara Center (another new name--not as easy to nickname as Marine Midland Arena or HSBC Arena were--all the same naming contract, by the way, just that the bank keeps getting sold). Wish I were there.

He did well on the trip to Europe--goal in the first game of the season. Been a nice addition to the team so far. MSG just showed a shot of the Sabres' locker room going into the intermission commercial break. Sabres' Facebook page had been posting pictures of the renovation all summer, and damn, if that thing doesn't look fantastic. Uncle Terry's spending money everywhere.

Golisano was an angel for the team: bought them out of bankruptcy/Adelphia financial mis-dealings, lowered ticket prices to give the average Sabres fan the chance to go to a game (I was talking with my dad earlier tonight about how quiet the arena was the first couple of seasons; simply put: rich people (the only ones who could get seats the first few years at the Bank Building) don't yell the way most hockey fans in Western New York do), but I love the way Terry's thrown money around. Would have liked another top line All-Star forward signed at some point, but he's put money behind more good off-season acquisitions than anyone else this year. There's a reason that 10/12 of the ESPN hockey analysts have us winning the Northeast this season.

:lol Outside of Barry Melrose and Matthew Barnaby (the latter still baffles my mind; an ex-Sabres scrapper doesn't quite fit the profile of a guy in a suit offering hockey analysis. Of course, Rob Ray does the same thing for MSG, so I guess "Why the hell not?" is the question), they don't let many of them on camera.

And while I was typing, Dreeeeeeew Stafford scores!!! 'Bout damn time. Tyler Myers totally created that one. Love the way that guy plays in the offensive zone.

ETA: Augh. Sonofabitch!! Damn lousy penalty kill, right there. As good as the special teams were in Europe, they've been terrible tonight.

Damn. 42 shots on goal for Buffalo. Cam Ward made a lot of difference for Carolina in that one, but no team that gives up two shorthanded goals in one game should be winning. Next four on the road. Trying to get some extra cash together for when they're here in South Florida next Thursday.

Cam Ward was on fire all night, made Miller look mediocre.

Gragnani was terrible, Vanek couldn't do anything right, and Adam probably could've gotten back on one of the SH goals.

0/7 on the power play. We looked terrible all night after the 1st period.

Witt was one of the toughest guys I've ever seen play. He would block a Chara like missle and not miss a shift. It was not a car, I think it was a Suburban and that truck had no chance. He actually really didn't like to talk about. People were making such a big deal of it.

As a side note, Big game tonight in this early season. Isles-Rags never gets old. One of the best rivalries in sports.

Thornton can hold his own against anyone in the league. And unlike most other goons he can actually play hockey.

Anytime he is out with any kind of injury, especially "upper body," it should be a concern. You hope his shoulder isn't bothering because he finally seems to have his slapper back. Honestly our lineup without him looks pretty damn mediocre.

Kane can't be playing C tonight if Hossa's out, though, right? No way. Please, no, Q. Any line consistinf of Kane with some of Carcillo/Stalberg/Olesz/Brunette would be the worst defensive line in the league.

Nah, I like Briere. In fact, he's probably one of my favorite players on the team.

You missed the point. You seem to be one of the people that seem to think that Richards was the worst thing to happen to the chemistry on the Flyers since Lindros' parents. This is pretty funny by itself because you never missed a chance to rip Richards before the Cup run. After the Cup run, you were singing Richards' praises throughout the season. Once the season ended, you were back to ripping him again. Simple question: if Richards was as bad as you think he is, why was his GM about to cry on the day he traded him? I bet he was overcome with tears of joy since he was finally able to get that cancer off the team.

My problem is really with the Philly media. The media didn't like Richards and Richards didn't like the media. As soon as those pics of Richards and Carter hit the 'net, they went to town on the theme that Richards and Carter were immature and that they were partying too much.

The funny thing is they didn't write anything about the pic of Briere and Girioux. It was the same situation as the Richards/Carter picture: players out drinking during the season with some girls. The only difference is that it was with a porn star (not alledged btw) instead of college girls.

The media had a huge axe to grind with Richards and they held him (and Carter to a lesser extent) to a much different standard than the rest of the team.

I'm just tired of hearing how bad an influence Richards was on the team. No one was saying that after '10.....
