I thought the rangers let the game get away in the second. To finish the first the way they did, then not capatlize and build on it in the second period was a letdown. And the caps to their credit got the rangers into a wide open game which they cannot compete with.

They played better in the third but holtby was outstanding as well.

So, I had a dream last night that the Rangers and Flyers were playing game 4 with the Rangers leading the series 3-0. The game was tied with 6 seconds left in the 3rd and the face-off was down at the Flyers end. For some reason, I was playing and was standing at the point, puck comes to me after the face-off win and I snipe it into the net with about 2 seconds left in the game. :cool

So, clearly the Flyers and Rangers are going to advance. :lol

Yeah I dunno but his stock might never be higher than it is right now. Toronto and Edmonton would probably be the top two places I see. Both could use a big center. Columbus maybe too but I doubt they do it though cause of what they'd have to give up to get him.

I'm not sure what the Pens cap situation looks like but I can't imagine that they'll be able to afford him after this year. Trading him would be a smart move imo.

That's the big debate right now. Both Staal and Crosby's contract are up after next year. They are tight on cap space as it is, so they likely cannot afford to keep all three centers. The most likely candidate to be moved is Staal, especially because his stock is high now. However, there is a faction arguing that Malkin should be traded because though Staal doesn't have the point total, he can do things Malkin cannot and Malkin gets moody at times.

I just feel like the Pens should get more of a sure thing in return than even the number one overall pick.

dduncan6er 05-01-2012 10:39 AM

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

I think you're overrating Staal's value if you don't think #1 overall is enough. If he had a few years left on his deal at $4 million you might be right but he's going to get a pretty nice raise, and Yakupov is supposed to be a can't miss prospect. I'm sure he'd live to play with Malkin too.

fonzz41 05-01-2012 10:40 AM

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

The Leafs could really use Staal. Besides his skills, having someone who has some sort of championship experience is something this team desperately needs. They are floundering.

dduncan6er 05-01-2012 10:42 AM

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

The Leafs may not be able to afford him either when his contract expires. I think they should really see what they can get for Kessel this off season and start the rebuild over again.

I'll admit to looking at Staal with Black and Gold goggles, and I know little about Yakupov other than his name. Staal did have 25 goals, and would've likely had 35-40 if he didn't miss 20 games. He had a great playoff all things considered. If he stays healthy he's a likely Selke candidate. But you are right, he will be due for a nice raise.

We shall see what happens.

The other significant change: The NHL expects to have a Canadian network partner in presenting "24/7" next season.
"We're going to have another partner to announce, who will take the series in Canada," Collins said. "I think this is one of the benefits of having Toronto in the game. They're paying attention to this in ways that, frankly, they haven't previously in the market up there."

Wheels are coming off in Nashville. Sucks for them.

I mean, let's be honest, we were all waiting for those 2 to do something stupid.

Sucks a little. We'll miss them on offense, but offense hasn't been our problem so far. Maybe Tootoo will be able to provide a spark on defense. Tootoo is a huge crowd favorite in Nashville, so at least the fans will get rowdy when he hits the ice. It'll also lead to more ice time for Hornqvist, which could be a good thing.

Radulov has been the worst player of either team, by far. He might be the worst player of this entire round.

Would love to see some of the Wings highlighted on 24/7 like Lidstrom and Datsyuk

Personally i'm not worried about losing them. Radulov is a player that I do not respect and do not like. We won all year without him so fuck him.

We don't need to score tons of points to be the Coyotes. Everyone was predicting a low scoring series for a reason. That reason being that that is the style of hockey we normally play. If the Preds can just get back to that defense first mentality and play the way we played all year, we can beat PHX any day of the week.

Flyers are, well, flying. Devils are outmatched in every way.

Glad Read got that puck in. Didn't want him to be snake bitten.
