*** Official Alp...err Milwaukee 2020 Thread

Here's to hoping the renovations at the Marcus, I mean, American Family Insurance Amphitheater make it a more enjoyable experience. I'll bitch and moan every year they don't play Alpine though, what a waste.

Disappointed in no Alpine this year. Hopefully the side stages have some good stuff on this day and hopefully we get a sneaky good set.

No matter what they replace Alpine with, it will not replace the fact that they consistently deliver epic sets at Alpine and not at the "replacement show". That is why I'm not a fan of them removing Alpine.

100%. It’s the entire experience. Middle of nowhere, camping, the view, lawn, and most of all the sets and energy.

DMB's Summerfest set at the Marcus 2014 is hands down my worst concert I've ever been to lol... idk what kinda renovations they did but the Marcus was unbelievably awful when I was there. I wouldn't see the band at the Marcus if they were playing their last show ever there.

Good luck to y'all lol

Yes the Marcus was an absolute shit show. Everything about it was disorganized. Apparently they have improved the lanes of foot traffic around the venue, added bathrooms and concessions, that sort of stuff. Not sure what to expect.

Any word on prices for tickets yet? Such a drag to have no Alpine, but I hate Northerly so I'm skipping Chicago even though it's the closest show to me.

they did more than that. Raised roof(assuming for sound) All new audio/visual. New Raised stage for better sight lines. Revamped seating bowl as well.

So disappointed no Alpine. Why Chicago?? Northerly is terrible, it is loud, no acoustics, hard to get to , no tailgaing. We have gone twice (4 shows) and WILL NOT go back. We are planning Noblesville, SPAC and Summerfest. Marcus sucks but it is at home so we have to go.

Alpine X 20, West Palm X 2, Bristow X1, Toronto X1, Las Vegas X2, Hollywood Bowl X1, Kansas City X1, Milwaukee X 5, St. Paul X1

I hope a $50M investment in the facility fixes all those problems.

The last time they played Summerfest, we got a one song Jimi encore...I sure hope they improve it slightly this time around.

2018 Summerfest show was my least favorite DMB ever. Bad venue, meh set list, apathetic atmosphere. Gotta be better now....right?

Re: *** Official Alp...err Milwaukee 2020 Thread

I will point out that locally here in Milwaukee I’ve heard from casual concert goers and Summerfest fans voicing their frustrations with the festival booking a lot of the same artists over the last 5 years or so. A lot of people mentioning they’d like to see more variety. I haven’t heard this specific gripe yet for DMB, but it will be their 3rd show here in 6 years.

If the casual fans don’t show up it could end up selling very poorly.

Local show for me and about 10 others. We decided for first time in 20 years to skip this year. This venue just isn't nearly as fun compared to Alpine and Northerly sucks. Hopefully they'll be back next year. Hope this doesn't turn into an every other year sort of thing.

That gripe has existed for years for Summerfest, but as long as the "repeat" artists are a draw in general, it'll sell just fine.

Unfortunately the pattern of every other year appears to be emerging. I don't really get it...

Just a heads up, if any of y'all had the Reservations at Alpine Resort, they let me push my Reservation to 2021 instead of canceling it.

Re: *** Official Alp...err Milwaukee 2020 Thread

They played in MKE a few years ago and Dave said it was the first time they had played here in like 10 years. Now 3 shows in the last 6. One year Alpine was closed.... but would have opened for DMB I am sure. Summerfest is a crap show been to the last 3 shows there over the last 6 years. Skipping it this year instead I will drive to Deer Creek and Blossom and fly to the Gorge. If I get confirmations. Just not the same as Alpine. Summerfest is trouble and needs good acts so that it doesn't become POPfest or Country Fest or ClassicRock Fest. They probably pay DMB good coin to do one night in comparison to Alpine. To be fair Dave was at Alpine 3 nights last year if you count Farm Aid and the DNC is in MKE this year... so maybe this is something he really wanted to do.

Re: *** Official Alp...err Milwaukee 2020 Thread

Not sure the DNC has anything to do with it. I think the band is setting into a new tour pattern of Alpine every other year and Summerfest/Chicago the others.

Rough tour schedule for the midwest....:shrug

Will be skipping this one without question.

Please stop skipping Alpine!

Thrilled they revamped Marcus, should fix a few of the issues. Am I the only one that didn’t hate 2018 show? It’s not Alpine... what is? Can walk to fun neighborhoods in Milwaukee afterwards and make a great, albeit different from Alpine, day. I lived in Milwaukee for many years and yes I’m biased towards its downtown. Different kind of show but no reason to hate.

It's hard not to compare a Milwaukee show to a missed opportunity to play Alpine. I too am hoping the revamped Marcus will fix a few of its issues, though I do have to say the 2018 show was underwhelming at best.

Regardless, I'll be at the Marcus in July, here's to hoping they make up for the one song Jimi encore in 2018!

I love downtown Milwaukee, and I guess for people that might be coming to the show from out of the area, it's great to explore, but I live here, so I'd much rather have the excuse to get out to Alpine!

What were the tickets price levels again for this show? I am confirmed at $85 level. Was there a more expensive level (not including VIP)?

I think pit and lowers were 115. 85 mid tier. 65 for the bleachers.

Darn. I thought there was a higher. Maybe no seniority for this show. This was my only show requested and I’ve been a member since December 1998 and I didn’t even get lower. Very disappointing.

That does suck, but seniority only comes into play when you're approved for a certain price level. Meaning, they run a general lottery for everyone at the pit/lower level, for those who get picked their seniority determines their seats at said level. You just didn't get picked in that lottery.

If you are a December 98 member your seniority in theory should get you the best seats in that tier, granted it's not the best tier.

Thanks for the explanation! I haven’t kept up on all the “rules” over the years. I miss the early years of the Warehouse when I got first 5 rows and tickets were $50 or less...lol.
