y!

Guess not so much a chant as they yell "Potvin sucks" about 6 times a game during islander games. They've been doing since Potvin took out the Rag$ best player with a legal check and broke his ankle in 1979.

I found a video of what they basically do. They've been this over 35 years now.

Looks like there were some questionable hits in Rangers/Lightening game. Tanner Glass and Brian Boyle both given game misconducts.

Glass: https://twitter.com/nhlonnbcsports/s...05830954737664
Boyle: http://youtu.be/dP5eit2kkDA

They were both blindside hits, I can see suspension for Glass but not Boyle. Don't think intent was there for Boyle but still a dangerous play. Can't find a different angle on the Glass hit but it looks like it could be shoulder to shoulder hit.

Thanks Canes. Wings win in regulation against the Bruins tomorrow and they are in. Regardless of what happens tonight or against the Rangers on Saturday. I'd prefer a win tonight, since it's their last home game and then their chances are increased a lot.

Agreed, suspension for Glass, definitely looked much worse. Can't make that hit at all. I don't think it's head contact but still, definition of a blindside hit. Probably 2 games is my guess. Likely nothing extra for Boyle, although that's a classic example of the kind of hit that Matty's always talking about: the hit from 3-5 feet away from the boards where the player is in a vulnerable and awkward position. Honestly I'm surprised Boyle was tossed for that, but I'm glad he was. There's no need to make that hit. It's extremely dangerous for the player on the receiving end. But I doubt he gets a suspension. I kind of wish he would though. I hate those hits.

aeroshady 04-06-2016 07:08 AM

Re: The NHL Thread

I was at a bar for the game and missed the Boyle hit. After watching, it was clearly not as bad as the Glass hit. Still never good to see someone driven into the boards like that though.

The Glass hit was shitty and he should probably sit for a few games to think about it.

Hawks making another nice statement to remind the league that they are still the team to beat. No Crawford, no Hossa, no Shaw and no Keith yet they played a complete team game last night while clobbering the Coyotes. PK was 6 for 6 and the power play was 3 for 6. Ladd nets a pair, Toews gets a shorthanded goal, Kane gets a power play goal, Desjardins nets one in the third and Panik opened the scoring. Panarin gets 3 assists, Kane, Toews, Seabrook, Hjalmarsson, Kruger, Rozsival and TVR all got an assist as well. Big game when the Blues come into Chicago tomorrow, hopefully they can continue to light that lamp a lot and maybe get Hossa, Anisimov or Shaw back to help too. A good upset of Dallas by the Avs would be nice tomorrow too! Seeding is going to go down to the wire in the central.

Also, pretty sure last night sealed up the Calder for Panarin and the Art Ross for Kane. 2 more solid games by Kane and I think he will get the Hart too. :)

at least the officials in this game took action

Flyers did much dirtier things and got away with them. NHL needs WAY more consistency and stricter enforcement across the board

Even if he didn't trip, it's still a clear boarding. That's intent to injure. You never hit a guy in the numbers.

The hit and what Simmonds were the same. They cancel each other.

Sorry guys, you know I can't help myself from weighing in on these.

Glass hit: Happy to see it wasn't a headshot. What was the call on the ice? I probably would've given him a major for Interference, as the puck was pretty far gone by the time Glass threw the hit. Far enough at least that he could've pulled up. That being said, I like the ref in that situation giving him the game misconduct. Severity of consequence is often the biggest teacher, and if the NHL wants blindside hits out of the game, that's how to do it. I would be a little surprised though if Glass got suspended. But I always get suspension predictions wrong, so I'll just stick with what I know, which is on-ice calls. :lol

Boyle hit: Yeah, absolutely no intent to injure on that. Guys push off all the time like that when going for the puck. However, intent doesn't matter. Boyle gave Girardi a hard shove right in the death zone which you all know I'm so fond of. Again, I'm a very vocal proponent of zero tolerance when it comes to hits in that area, and severity is often the best teacher, so I'm satisfied with Boyle getting the game misconduct.

I'll take a series against an untested Panthers team any day over a Pens team that is the best in hockey right now. Injuries mean nothing compared to momentum. Pens have the best momentum in the league heading to the post season.

EDIT: Kings just worry me more than any other team in the Western Conference. Sure the Hawks are capable of beating them but it would be a long grueling series.

I think what H2P is getting at is that since the Kings are in a different division, they can't see the Hawks in the 1st round (unless one of them happened to be a Wild Card)

Uhh..what?

If the season ended today.

Hawks are playing the Blues in the first round. LA has San Jose in the first.

Re: The NHL Thread

If St. Louis overtakes Dallas than Dallas plays Chicago in the first round. That's grueling.

Anaheim could be overtaken by LA and then suddenly you got Anaheim vs. San Jose in the first round.

Don't act so rattled. If you can't handle the NHL thread without getting offensive and calling people morons...perhaps who should take a break from sports to gain a little perspective on life..

yea one of them would have to be a WC in order for a 1st round meeting

It's been a very entertaining lunchtime backread. :)

I do love this Pens team. I believe in Matt Murray, though I really hope Fleury comes back soon. And Malkin coming back can only be a good thing.

Fun bit of would've, could've, should've: If the Pens had beaten the Devils a couple of weeks ago, last night's win would've been their 18th in a row, which would've broken the 1993 team's record.

Do you at least believe they can win the east?

I am very curious to see your reaction if the Caps win the cup this year. In a related way, I am not at all interested in seeing Brohan's reaction if the Caps win the cup this year.

I know I was just being hypothetical because when I read that article it was a possibility.

I would much rather face Dallas than St. Louis in the first round. Dallas does not have a great D, their goalkeeping is hit or miss and if he plays who knows how much Seguin can contribute.

May as well just write him a script for xanax now since a final against one of the west powerhouses will surely be a brutal 6 or 7 game series. :lol

:lol It is quite fun actually. Outside of the Raiders and the US Mens soccer team every team I cheer for has won at least 3 championships since I started high school in 1991.

Know what you mean, have had mine going since the Hawks clinched a berth. Starting to look like a taliban candidate already. :lol

I hope I get to grow any type of facial hair. Although, even if Wings are only in it for a week and half I can do a pretty nice goatee.

I did the beard once and it just didn't suit me. Gotta do goatee. The thing is though I find myself shaving more often cause the stubble doesn't look good with the longer goatee. At least I don't think.

While I rarely shave with a straight razor I do use a clipper to keep my face almost clear of facial hair. When it gets all hot and humid having a hairy face drives me insane.

I would too. He's already one of my favorite all-time players (that guy was nearly flawless in every aspect of the game), and that beard just solidified it.

A Niedermayer Devils sweater is one of the only non-Avalanche sweaters I covet.

Looks like i'm going to be in LA for a night on May 8th as an overnight layover heading to Hawaii - If I remember we have a LA resident in here somewhere. I'd love some advice on some fun things for the girlfriend and I to do. Help!
