Raven and I'll back you up were firsts. Songs off of the new album were great, especially Shake me like a monkey, Lying in the hands of God, and You and Me. Dave mentioned that this was the last place Leroi Moore played in 2008 before he got in an ATV accident and later passed away.

Waking up Saturday proved to be a bit of a struggle from the very solid O.A.R show the night before over at Merriweather, but as the buzz crept back up, the heat from the day subsided. the 21 year old juviniles who stopped trying to play hacky sack with a rock dissapeared out of our tailgating area, the rush was on for DMB at Nissan paviliion.
Heading in about 40 min before show time was quite a scene that I have never expierenced in the 9 shows I have scene at this venue dating back to 95, obviously the parking was wreck, but the extra tickets seemed scarce, many I figure were left out on tickets for not acting early, this unfortuantly being the venue where Leroi played his last notes coupled with the home venue, set us up for an amazing evening.
The curtain drops and the band rips into WHY I AM-, the best, let me repeat the best and most fitting opener they could begin the night with.
Funny The Way it Is- isn't it! To think whats happned in a year, and to those who are lucky enough to be back here tonight.
SEVEN-Reynolds grit guitar licks, three newbies to open, the house was alive.
YMDT- Amazing version, compares to a couple of others that I have heard this year (Beacon is sick). Alot of passion in this song, Dave scatting and mix up towards the end, only builds up the closing.
LIOG- An amazing YMDT stops and some of the sweetest chords surface, only fitting they bring this song out at Nissan, it's been 10 years since they have played it here. LIOG was magical and bliss and all that surrounds it. This version sounded great.I din't think it was possible to hear this song after YMDT, both have so much Boyd thrown into em. For the folks that would actually sit down during a momnet like this, I would question why your even in the venue.
SHAKE ME-no close up on LIOG, right into the monkey. Energy is extremely high again for this one, this show is off the hook. Monkey sounds great.
I'll BACK YOU UP- Wow! You could almost feel as if this was being palyed for Leroi, a rare gem in the catalog, a nice breather and beautiful song.
#41- By this point, I think the whole pavillion was singing along. The 09 41's are a bit long and drawn out for me. This version had more consistency and musicianship then did the Hershey #41.
RAVEN- Unreal, this version oozed outta the back end of 41, I had no idea what they were getting into. If LIOG is the highlight, Raven was a close second.
BURNIN DOWN THE HOUSE- Literally they were, as much as i wanted Solsbury Hill and oppose BDTH, they killed it! nice, short and to the point.
LYING IN THE HANDS- long version, sounded great, kinda had an eerie Leroi undertone in it.
NANCIES- Amazing...The Boyd show continues here, I think it should be mandatory they go into Warehouse after Nancies.
GREY ST- Raged, tons of energy.
YOU & ME- ok, so they have one little mistep.
CRASH- beautiful as always.
TIME BOMB-Bit of an interesting closer, kinda seemed a bit weak for such an amazing show, reminiscent of the "What you are" show killer closers of the past.
E) SQUIRM- ahh wierd, a Rye whiskey or Gravedigger would have drilled this spot, so be it, I could have dealt with it, but when the Stairway>Watchtower (Hershey repeat) surfaced....I was either worn out or let down..had enough,
o well...This show was near perfect...The final three song choices is all that I question, but the bulk of this show is honestly some of the best DMB that one could ever experience. This is one of the top Nissan shows around, and a must get show for any fan. But as detialed as my words are, I hope those that got to experience really lived up the evning for what it was.....JOY!

What an amazing night! This was show #52 for me and after Hershey I was left feeling dissapointed and worried that maybe Ive seen them too many times - but this one was amazing. Section 101 was rockin!! Having been to last years show - Why I Am opener made me a little teary eyed- and gave me some goosebumps. So many classic moments and I'll Back You Up and Raven - WOW! Also probably one of the best Watchtower's I've seen in a while - although Dave began to walk off before the rest of the band was done playing - then came back and put his guitar back on. This one definately seemed like a tribute to Roi! Thank you DMB for a fantastic 2009 tour!

As a Pittsburgher, I'm used to the energy and festivity that happens at Burgettstown. This show and crowd reminded me of home and perhaps even took it a step further as far as energy and excitement goes during the show! The set list, and the fact that I'll Back You Up was played was enough for me, but I could go on and on.
My hands turned and still are black and blue from clapping so damn much. I can't wait for this show again next year. It's certainly worth the drive to see them in their element in VA.
AMAZING!!!!!!
the only thing that could have made it better was if there were two nights of the show, like we always have up in Pittsburgh.

Lead off with Why I Am in honor of Leroi, and Dave reminded the crowd that the last time the band played together with Leroi was last year at Nissan. And with that on their minds, the played IBYU!!! Incredible. Show was huge in the middle, though it tapered off a bit. If the band closed with Rapunzel (as on the setlist) in place of Time Bomb, and worked in Warehouse after Nancies, the show would have been a true classic with a great song flow. Only complaint is the usual Nissan parking lot after the show. I think Nissan is proud of how awful it is... Thank you DMB!

The band sounded great last night Coffin killed it on 41 and BT sounded great on LIOG and Nancies. I don't know if it was that the mic wasn't up loud enough or if it was all the people around me in general admission that were having their own little conversations so loud that I couldn't really hear I'll Back You Up and I wish I could because what I could hear of it sounded beautiful. Great setlist, but the sound was way too low. Dave's mic was especially low at first. I have been to sold out shows where you could hear from the parking lot. But for some reason, it seemed like many people didn't even know the show had started from the concessions stand.
#41 was nice and a bit different with more interplay between Carter and Jeff than I remember. LIOG seemed like it went direct into Shake Me. I'll Back You Up and Raven were nice surprises, although I could barely hear IBYU because of the mic issues. First time I had ever heard the either live. Burning Down The House was a lot of fun. The Watchtower with Stairway to Heaven closer was a nice treat.
I rate the show a 3 mostly bc of the sound. Lots of people near me said the same. Nissan is also hell to get out of.

Good things:
1) GREAT jams. #41, LIOG -> Shake Me (although I am sad they didn't play the end), Nancies, Time Bomb. Jeff and Carter had a great rapport during #41. Very awesome. Boyd was INSANE!
2) Surprise I'll Back You Up! YES PLEASE! :)
3) There wasn't a single song I wasn't thrilled to hear.
4) All the Big Whiskey songs sounded GREAT. So happy to hear my 3 favorites (Time Bomb, Squirm, Lying In The Hands of God), and You and Me was a nice treat too.
5. Overall, it felt like the whole night was a tribute to Roi, and it was wonderful. :) We miss you Roi!!!
Bad things:
1) The crowd was AWFUL. No energy at all. I don't know about the other sections, but section 102 to the left of the sound board was awful. People were sitting down, and the seats practically emptied during Lying In The Hands of God. But, of course, they knew every word to Crash Into Me...
2) It was over too soon. I was hoping to hear another song on the encore, but we were out of there well before 11.
But, neither of those things ruined my night! We had a blast!

Very humid night out at the stone ridge. Why I am was a great opener and the fans seem to be responding well to the new tunes which is great. Lie In Our Graves>Shake Me Like a Monkey was very powerful. #41 was as good as always on this tour with Jeff and Carter dueling on this particular version. Song of the night was I'll Back You Up. Couldn't have been a better choice then to introduce this tune on the 2009 tour in the Band's home state where it started as a tribute to Leroi where he played his last show over a year ago. Raven was a nice surprise. The set ended rather early and the energy dimmed both by the crowd and band. Must have been the humidity. Stairway>Watchtower>Stairway>Watchtower jam was great. Sounded like they were gonna play Halloween. It was a fun night with good people. Interested to see how this tour ends as it heads into the homestretch of the second leg.

This would mark the fifth show for me in the last two years, and I swear each has been better than the last. "On Point" was all I could say over and over, trying to describe to myself what it was I was seeing and hearing. They were more than just on point Saturday night, I just can't think of a word or a phrase that does justice to my texhnical, unbiased opinion of this show without the influence of all the wonderfully crazy emotions I was experiencing while taking it all in, like a drug with no negative properties or consequences.
I won't go through the whole show; you can obviously see the set-list for yourselves and imagine each song being played perfectly. One of the many highlights for me was You Might Die Trying. They easily can get sloppy during that song, but Tim rocked it like it was his baby, Dave hit that outro with a lot of passion and then the Horn Boys took it to TOWN with their usual four bar "build and explode." J&R were so in sync and epically flawless...
They were such a strong presence that night. It felt to me like there was something really driving them to play so intensely, maybe the memory's recognition of Uncle Roi's last wind wailing's echo off the hill from the last year passed, or maybe by something a little more complex than a human memory. Or maybe I was just having too much fun to realize it was a crappy show? ha, naaaaaa. It was the best of the 5 I've see live. It would be an incredible DVD, and that's the last I'll say about that show.

Why I Am: AWESOME opener, did not expect it, started the rock from the beginning
Funny: Standard, sang along with it, a lot of fun.
Seven: Eh, don't like it live, but glad we saw it.
YMDT: Another great surprise, saw this last year too and the song is just on another level. The small solos from each person really got us into the music
LIOG: Great as usual, Boyd was on fire.
Shake Me: Knew this would follow LIOG, really fun song live
I'll Back You Up: My OMG moment, I was in heaven, 80 percent of the crowd didn't know how special this moment was. I was in bliss for 5 minutes, this is the absolute last song I was expecting to hear.
41: Awesome sing along, Coffin rocked it, too long now for my tastes.
Raven: Good surprise, killed it.
BDTH: Didn't really care too much for this song
LITHOG: Amazing musically, one of my highlights for the night.
Dancing Nancies: Classic, best part of the show, the whole crowd was into it, and Boyd crushed it
Grey Street: super high energy
You & Me: kinda brought down the energy level after 3 amazing songs, but it's a sweet song, people were singing along
Crash Into Me: Unexpected, standard, always a plus to see
Time Bomb: Lacked the energy from the studio version, I was hoping this wouldn't close, but it did. Kinda left us wanting more and in an eh mood.
Encore: "TWO STEP! TWO STEP!"
Squirm: Good surprise for an E1, brought the house down with teh energizz!
Watchtower: Holy mother of God, what a song. The Stairway to Heaven interpolition and lyrics makes this song go from epic to legendary. By far the most fun I've had during a song at a DMB show. Outside of Two Step, this is a perfect way to end the show.

Much better Nissan show than 2007, about as good as 2006 although that had some rare ones: So Right, Joyride, Kill the King, Typical Situation, Pig encore...
Opening was slow, even though it makes sense to play why i am as opener for first time ever since it was the last place Roi played...Didn't really feel like a DMB concert until YMDT into LIOGs. Shake me like a monkey is great live first time hearing it.
IBYU was real pretty and surprising, but people in the lawn had no clue what was going on, talked over it, so couldn't really enjoy it till I listened to the recording.
The duel between Tim and Jeff just gets better and better, makes #41 diff every time.
Raven and BDTH and Lying in the Hands of God finished up the best portion of the concert.
Nancies seemed like a break for the band and I'm getting tired of hearing it this summer.
Surprise midconcert grey street lived it back up.
Liked Time Bomb as a set closer, but its no Rapunzel.
Squirm is hard to really hear the complexity live, although one of my favorite on BWGGK.
Set ended 12 minutes before 11 (noise curfew) which was disappointing. Doesn't make sense why band replaced Rapunzel because it let the concert end real early...let everyone down that halloween did not follow from Watchtower like they did at Saratoga

What an incredible show-one of the best out of 11! Jeff was perhaps the best of the band tonight, he and Carter absolutely killed #41. IBYU (I'll Back You Up) and Raven were absolute treats to hear--never thought I'd ever hear either one. It was something to attend Leroi's last concert last year and have Dave give Roi a shout-out tonight to reference that specific fact. Some of the songs pulled out (including IBYU) definitely felt like they were sung in honor of Roi. Happy to hear Time Bomb and the sick Watchtower/Stairway to Heaven closer. Great show!

Good show. I'll back you up was awesome and very unexpected. First dancing nancies and raven. The stairway to heaven intro and interpolation was insane! Kinda disappointed that there was 11 repeats from the night before. The band should have changed the setlist up more from the night before in VA beach bc the 2 VA venues were only 4 hours apart they know there had to be a lot people who caught both (myself included)
