Saw them in Tampa and it didn't even remotely compare to how incredible this show was. Lawn gnome that I am I can't seem to afford to get out of the party crowd and into the fans that actually sing along during "people in every direction; no words exchanged; no time to exchange..." This lawn crowd was MUCH more in tune with Dave than the one in Tampa. Dave broke a string during Eh Hee but the majority of the crowd didn't notice as he traded out guitars and led us in a chorus of "brothers, sisters..." it just kept us all together and focused on what mattered... the message in the music. Then Boyd had a little issue with his violin and went missing for 20 minutes, but came back in time for our favorite "Ants Marching" and stole the show for the last song before the encore. Boyd didn't get his introduction until Dave was walking off stage. It was an incredible show and made me hungry for more. Trying to save up for the Garden!

Yet another beautiful summer evening for a Dave Matthews Band concert in Virginia Beach. Been seeing shows here since it opened, this probably ranks as the best they've played here. A rundown of the tunes:
SEEK UP: Tremendous opener. Not quite as long as the 2005 mid-set version which clocked in at about 22 minutes. Coffin was amazing.
ONE SWEET WORLD: Very nice.
SO DAMN LUCKY: We are so damn lucky that this song is in the setlist. The best verions I've heard to date.
OLD DIRT HILL: Very respectable, never really cared much for this song but sounds decent live.
PNP: the longest jammed out versions I've ever heard. Just kidding.
RAPNUZEL: a smokin' version, probably the best played in this building
CRASH: pretty good, not great.
CORN BREAD: standard, lots of dancing Dave.
EH-HEE: like this song, another standard reading.
BURNING DOWN THE HOUSE: actually kind of disappointed by this. Rashawn looked a little spaced out while singing and perhaps he should just stick to his trumpet. Love Rashawn by the way.
PROUDEST MONKEY: I read a lot of complaints about this song but it is a personal favorite and first time hearing live for me. Loved every second of it and Tim had a sweet solo.
SATELLITE: UHG, a personal dislike. Not a bad version, though.
EVERDAY>HALLOWEEN: Of course when this starting I couldn't help but think about Riverbend but really didn't think it would/could happen two shows in a row. But it did and it was awesome. Have never really thought this is one of their great songs but it was very hot live and seemed like it is in the normal rotation. It will be interesting to see how often this appears for the remainder of the tour. I don't see how they can just play EVERYDAY without disappointing the fans.
WATER/WINE: Very cool.
YOU MIGHT DIE TRYING: This song has just smoked all tour and tonight was no exception. Far superiour to last year's version, mainly due to Mr. Reynolds.
SLEDGEHAMMER: Great song and version. I think this is the best cover I've ever heard from DMB although I should mention that I'm not a big fan of DMB's take on Watchtower.
#41: An off-the-charts version. I never thought they would top last year's version but they did. Tim's solo was epic as was Coffin's sax solo. I'm convinced that this is the best song to see at a DMB concert.
ANTS MARCHING: A great version but doesn't it seem like this gets played too much? Hard to complain as it is always a great time. There seemed to be some extra jamming at the end.
DON'T DRINK THE WATER: Totally caught off-guard by this. A strong version and think this song works much better here than as a show opener.
ASTB>TOO MUCH>TRIPPING BILLIES: Holy crap, Boyd tore it up like I've never seen before. The first Billies here since 2000 (what's up with that?) and it was very, very sweet. Can't think of a better song to end a show with. Overall, a very meaty show with lots of great jamming.

On top of being an instant amazing classic and a show for the decades.

They played Halloween back to back! I am one lucky guy because I had hoped that Ohio didn't ruin the set for VAB and after all it just made it better.

The extended intro to Everyday built some anxiety something wasn't right but it was for the best and when they shot right into Halloween we were astonished.

Water/Wine was short but sweet for certain'as this was something I had been hoping for.

#41 = unbelievable. Many agreed it might have been one of THE BEST #41's it definitely can go down in the top 10, no 5, how about 3. Jeff ripped it with my fav`41 interpolation -Sojourn of Arjuna. Then they got us singing everyday outro again; i almost thought dave was going to begin the ED outro as they instantly shifted into Ants!

Amazing *Dont Drink played in the E1 spot- with a This Land is Your Land interpolation. The encore was off and running, the Bridge and Too Much to Billies is a must see for any fan!

Wowed.

4th show this summer and by far the best.
Seek up is always an awesome opener in my opinion. OSW was amazing. My first time hearing it live and it is great live
Rapunzel early in the show was a nice treat
Best Cornbread I have heard
Burning Down the House is a great cover. Very fun and has great energy. Still like Sledgehammer slightly better.
Halloween not much to be said about this moment except it was quite possibly the best moment in my life. I knew it was coming during the everyday tease but I along with everyone else went nuts when they started playing it.
However, #41 was the highlight of the show. Carter was unbelievable all night.
Great encore.
DDTW was a great surprise. Ending with Tripping Billies was a perfect way to end the show.

3rd show this year by far the best. Bringing down the house was nasty and sledgehammer keeps getting better. Halloween a rare highlight of the night, too much in billies was unexpected. I like how they are transitioning into to songs more and more instead of 5 minute breaks between songs, the encore break was real short they came right back out and delivered a strong finish. Alot of the same songs but they are all the songs they have been playing the shit out of this year, and #41 was off the chain.

I have been to four shows now, and this was the best I have seen so far. Great versions of So Damn Lucky and #41, and great solos from Reynolds and Coffin throughout.

I've been coming to the dave show in Va Beach since 2002 and I've usually left a little disappointed. We're always spoiled if you've been to a SPAC show, seeing that they're allowed to play past the 11:00 curfew. So i'm not a big fan of a play time of 2 hours... Last year I thought the DMB show was great with Shotgun, Warehouse #41 with Joe and to close with All along the watchtower. I thought for sure this year was gonna be a let down. I was so wrong! This is my 27th DMB show and it was almost by far my favorite! To see them open up w/Seek up(one of my personal favorites of all time), then continue w/ such energy until they got to freaking HALLOWEEN!!! When was the last time they played this FULL SONG back to back? Never thought it was going to happen! I was in heaven! Then #41!!! WOW And to close w/ Tripping Billies... Simply stunning...Of course it's amazing to see Tim w/ them! I started liking dave in 1999 so this was only the 2nd show w/ tim w/full band for me. Nissan this year was my 1st and it was just ok! So thank you DMB for making my 27th show an unforgettable one and it took place at VA BEACH!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!

What a show! I would have to say this was the best DMB performance at Virginia Beach I have seen. The band really delivered the energy and a great set list. I brought a large group of friends and family with me, some seeing their first DMB show, and they were all blown away by the band. This was my 65th show and my first time hearing Halloween. It was amazing. TR3 was an excellent opener and Timmy played many awesome solos on this night with the DMB, especially during Proudest Monkey, You Might Die Trying and #41. Jeff Coffin had a huge solo in #41. Solid encore. Loved the Too Much tease into Tripping Billies. My seats were 7th row dead center Orch. 2, so that made the night all the sweeter. This one deserves a LIve Trax release. It was so good!!!

Wow... just wow. How amazing was last night? What an amazing set! I just want to thank everyone for making my last show a GREAT memory. I apologize in advance about the Lidz (sp) tapping, for Felicia, Duane, Tony, and myself were RIGHT next to it. So it will be cool to hear how that turns out. Sorry for the bad singing, if it's in there. Halloween? wow. W2W? wow. DDTW en1? wow. SDL is still my favorite of the year. Gave me goosebumps and almost to tears. GREAT song. Glad the boys return to treating the home crowd right.

14th show overall, 1st this tour. Simply amazing!!! Best show by far. I got my first Seek Up since 1998 which was my first show ever so back then I didnt really even know many songs. Cornbread, Burning Down the House, and Sledgehammer are so damn fun to watch the band jam too! Burning down the house might be one of my fav. cover songs by far. HALLOWEEN! I cant believe they played it after Ohio but they did and I still cant believe it! No thanks to our chants though, which were awful, but still, this show was unreal. My 7th show so far, and hands down the best one yet. The weather, crowd energy, and set list was just perfect. So many classic songs were played including a lot from Remember Two Things. My 3rd time seeing Timmy this tour and it seems like his jams keep getting sicker each time. Highlight of the show/Highlight of my life was the Everyday->HALLOWEEN->Everday->Water/Wine Jam. It was breath taking. Boyd was so beautiful playing #36/Everday on the violine until Carter comes thundering in with the sick nasty drum intro to Halloween and the whole crowd went ape shit. Tim crushed his solo during it. I knew they played Halloween the show before this one but I still wasn't expecting it two shows in a row. The boys were perfect on everything tonight. Get well soon Leroi, but Jeff Coffin was on fire. And the jam on #41 seemed to go on forever and Timmy was just smashing his solo, and it perfectly went into Ants. DDTW as an encore was friggn sweet, and the Bridge->2much tease->Tripping Billies to close was just the best way to end a classic show. Please please pretty please make this a Live Trax. The show was simply perfect, an instant classic!

FANTASTIC SHOW!!! Don't Give 5 stars but every once in a while, and of 17 shows, this is in the top 3.

Opener: TR3 = enjoyable, if not only to hear Tim speak or sing... Pooh dressed up and dancing in a gas mask = strange.... Dave introduced them by walking on stage as the "Virginia Slims" model from the old ad campaigns the brand had... talking about how unnatural those women looked walking, but that he was just trying to think of a sentence w/ Virginia in it ...

Crowd: Warmed up as the night got going... lots of signs (several jack-o-lanterns, Spoon/Little Thing/#40 signs, too); clear night, although hot/humid...

The Show:

Seek Up: You will never hear me complain with a seek up opener... I miss Roi on the intro, but enjoyable and dave's wailing was standardly awesome!

One Sweet World: Standard in a good way so long as it is not an opener...

So Damn Lucky: Highlight 1; third show this tour, and man this song has come a long way since Pittsburgh.

Old Dirt Hill: longer dave intro I believe, but this was the only sub-par song of the night (but no bayou, out of my hands, etc., so I'll live w/ it early set)

PNP --> Rapunzel: one i never tire of, and great placement after old dirt hill

Crash: Standard in a good way, dave's voice still on, and was a bit worried after him playing Halloween at Riverbend

Corn Bread: Highlight 2; WOW song is even stronger as the summer progresses, and still loving the Tim solo....

Eh Hee: Standard in a good way. I like this song, it's the darker, better, punchier Hunger For the Great Light equivalent

Burning Down The House: Dave still shouting, but crowd ate it up...

Proudest Monkey --> Satellite: Dave's voice still on spot, and first proudest monkey, so happy there... Tim's solo in PM = highlight of the 1-2 combo :)

Everyday intro: longer boyd solo than one in Riverbend, and was thinking no way they'll do Halloween two nights in a row, and for that matter, it is seeming like a standard set for 08... BUT dave was talking back to Carter who had both sticks ready to go...

AND !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HALLOWEEN: The crowd went nuts, the lyrics were far better than Riverbend, and from hear on out, the energy was nuts in the crowd...

Wine/Water: shorter than the other extended versions, but still incorporating Round/Round... A great treat after Halloween, seriously making this tour rivaling 2000's.

Die Trying: Longer extended jam before dave starts wailing, probably the best of the tour so far, and at least not bayou...

Sledgehammer: standard and crowd favorite

41: I've seen 41 8 or 9 times and this was the best by far... Sorjourn interpolation, but instead of finishing, Coffin steps up to carter's drum set and starts jamming for a good 5 min or so...

Ants: Crowd = wild, sang for the band for several lines...

ENCORE

Don't Drink The Water: nice placement, surprising, too... Dave had pointed before the encore at the spoon sign/looked back at Carter. Expect it or little thing in alpine. DDTW had the this land is your land interpolation, too.

I was hoping no bayou/everyday reprise, and lucky me...

Bridge/Too Much fake into Billies... Perfect ending to a hot, dancing fun night...

Grade: solid A
