Good show - Dave certainly had energy and felt the crowd. ASTB tood a while to start - good anticipation with seemingly random notes over a 5-min. span. Too Much Tease Extra solo for Boyd in Ants.

My 13th show, and it was as good as any. The band played really hard. Tim, Carter, and Dave stole the show, but Jeff Coffin was also unbelievable. The only shitty thing was the low attendance.

while i'm still not sure about crew stadium as a concert venue, i absolutely loved this my 6th show. i also loved ingrid michaelson to open, she's just too cute. highlights for me were sledgehammer, the maker, and jimi b'c i haven't seen it since my first show in '03. cornbread was too much fun, especially with dave's silly dancing with the goofy sunglasses. makes you wonder if columbus means dave has to wear silly sunglasses since a few years ago he sang smooth rider in big aviator glasses which was classic. it was great when they toyed with the crowd with astb and the too much tease. i thought timmy was out of this world on guitar, and jeff coffin did great as well. that man makes sounds on that sax i've never heard before, and in a good way. i laughed though at the beginning of one sweet world as jeff came in a little early and rashawn had to guide him through it with hand gestures. to pick up on songs as well as he has on such short notice is amazing nontheless. overall, great set, pretty good crowd, great opener, just a great night.

While I loved the feel of Crew Stadium and the look of the place, it was ridiculous standing in line just to get onto the field. It was also a bummer to see that huge stadium half empty for Dave. I was really impressed with the new sax player though and Timmy Reynolds was quite a treat! Overall, I had another incredible "concert" experience and was proud to say that was my 10th DMB!

Timmy is making a difference in these shows. He gives a new & fresh sound. Consider making him part of the band for good. Sledgehammer not quite the impact as version at Rothbury & shows are a bit more formulaic (songs being repeated in setlists), but the band is rockin' & Dave is in great voice. The venue is cool despite $15 parking & security a bit too over the top, but it's a welcome change from Polaris/Germain...

Dave Matthews Band - July 29, 2008
Crew Stadium, Columbus, Ohio, USA

This was my first and probably last DMB show, I did record the show which turned out nicely though aborted.
I am normally a stealth taper and for the first time saw a "real" taper set up his rig for this show, 4 mics 20 feet in the air on a tripod it was a thing of beauty, too bad the bands I tape most aren't onboard with this :(
I picked up a complete recording at dreamingtree.
My recording is shortened due to the discourtiousness of fellow DMB fans.
About 6-8 months ago iTunes sent my wife a free copy of the Eh-hee video which she loved. This led to her buying 5 studio albumns and the new live 3cd set within about a week and shortly thereafter she decided we needed to see the band live and snatched up tickets when they went on sale. I certainly had no objections as DMB is universally known to kick ass.
A few songs into the show a shit stain near us lights up a giant cigar and commences to blow humongous smoke clouds into the air which waft directly on us causing my wife to become physically ill and to leave the concert. On the way out I gave our tickets (front section about 1/2 way back on the floor) to a couple who were seated very close to the back of the floor. Thinking back I should have asked security to take care of the issue but it really was pretty instant from ignition to illness and at that point we couldn't stay anyway. The portion of the concert I heard was excellent, I was very impressed with the dynamics, though the folks around us seemed to think that anytime the volume softenend a bit it was time to become involved in miriad conversations, which was very annoying. I was very disappointed to have this show ruined as with our busy lives this is only the second show by any artist we have gone to in the last 2 ye

My 40th show and this was the one for the ages- i finally got to meet dave! Just hanging with my two daughters before the show on the side of the floor, trying to stay out of the sun when a guy (daryl i now know..) stops by and and says hey do you want to go backstage and meet Dave Matthews? long story short - It was amazing - what a gracious guy - spent at least 5 min talking with him and he promised my daughter to play ants for her - cut to the end of the encore - tap tap tap - ANTS!

Had the beginning of the show been better, this would have been my favorite show so far... It seemed like everything was really dragging until they played Two Step. It got MUCH better at that point though, Two Step was amazinq! I was excited to hear Sledgehammer, definatly the best cover the band has done so far! Overall, the show was good, but had the potential to be great!! Venue sucked though, place was MAYBE 2/3rds full, but the 10th row seats were sweet...

The band played awesome and the crowd on the floor was great. However, I'm really upset with the way Columbus is with music. Everyone here only cares about OSU football. The stands were half empty but that's how it is with a lot of bands that come here. At least the crowd where I was on the floor was good and the set list was pretty fantastic.

Highlights: Unexpected extended Water/Wine (about 5 minutes!), another amazing Two Step with Tim and Carter, seeing The Maker live for the first time, surprising ASTB>Billies (after seeing ASTB>Too Much and ASTB>Ants last weekend!), pretty much the entire setlist

Lowlights: Very poor attendance... probably could have fit another 5000 people in the stadium, but the crowd on the field was packed and into it

This felt like they took the best moments from 2 nights in Deer Creek and combined them into one awesome show. What a great setlist! It was my brother's first show, and of course he was pretty impressed. Favorites from his unbiased perspective: Two Step, YMDT, So Damn Lucky, and Sledgehammer (because he actually knew the lyrics:)). I was worried with the crappy venue/crowd that the band might not give their all, but boy was I wrong. They made it a memorable night for all those in attendance, but I'm guessing it might be the last show in Columbus for awhile...

Show was incredible.. i went to blossom the night after and heard alot of the same songs.. but everything played here was a step up from blossom. BEST TWO STEP EVER.. vot for it for the live trax.. incredible to hear jimi thing and daves skat on it was nasty. ASTB into billies was an awesome surprise.. I liked hearing dreaming tree but the crowd wasnt in to it too much. This was my second show this tour and ive been to four shows total.. By far the best ive seen. absolutely worth the download

8th show and by far the most solid set list. As for the crowd I felt that the crowd on the field was awesome. The crowd had a pretty good solo in Jimi Thing. I think the $60 bleacher seats stopped the crowd from being huge, but you can't hold it against a great show just because the seats weren't more than 3/4 full. Water/Wine Jam,DDTW opener, Dreaming Tree, and Sledgehammer were highlights for me.

First let me say this was the worst venue ever. I felt bad for the band as they looked out into a half empty stadium.

The show had its ups and downs, but overall the postives outweighed the negatives. Dreaming Tree, When the World Ends, Sledgehammer, Eh Hee, and the ending Billies were all great.

DDTW - Standard, but always a good opener

OSW - I have seen this live a lot of the past couple years, nothing new

YMDT - Ditto

So Damn Lucky - Good song, but have seen it live at all 4 shows within the past year

Dreaming Tree - Shocked to hear this song. First time I have heard it live and unfortunatley most of the crowd didn't get into it

Crash - Sorry Dave, but please move on from this song

WTWE - Great surprise here too

Two Step - Mid set was excellent

Sledgehammer - This got my section going. I have heard that this was a great song live and was glad that I could hear it myself

The Maker - Back to back covers? No a big fan of this song

Eh Hee - First time live for this song too. Great energy

Water/Wine Jam - kind of a mood killer after Eh Hee

Corn Bread - Wasn't a big fan of this when it first came out, but it is definately growing on me

Jimi Thing - Brillant! Excellent jams and first time I have heard this live in a long time

Bridge, Too Much, Billies - Was great way to end the main set. The teases were awesome and the change into Billies caught everyone off guard

Little Thing (tease) - kind of hard to make out

Gravedigger - standard version

Ants - standard

Set list was the most solid from top to bottom of any of 8 shows i've been to, no slow points. Highlights were a full band so damn lucky which sounded awesome, sledgehammer was great - tons of energy, and too much (fake) >> Billies. The boys came out with a ton of energy, first show for me with timmy and he absolutely tore it up. The crow was AWFUL though, weakest i've ever seen.

Didn't like the venue...prefer amphitheaters to a half full stadium...crowd didn't seem into it at first which was surprising with a great
Don't Drink the Water opener. You Might Die Trying is always fun. Two Step was my favorite of the night...
Sledgehammer too fun....loved it!
Corn Bread growing on me very good tonight!
Jimi Thing Loved hearing the crowd sing.

Nice not hearing a cover for the encore...although Thank you was pretty great at post gazette...wouldn't have minded that again!

As always...Boyd and Carter were awesome...Really miss Leroi. Jeff Coffin is good, fun to hear and is doing a great job in Leroi's absence. Tim Reynolds...always outstanding. Another great show! Man I love these guys!

This was quite the show. I have become a bigger and bigger DMB fan over the past few years. This was my third show, and my first outside of Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. I love reading reviews and keeping track of songs played on tour, and I must say Columbus had a great set list. This is actually the best set i have seen from the band, and the most energy from a crowd. It took a while for the crowd to get on their feet in the stands, but all it took was "Crash Into Me" to change that. Here is my review of the songs played tonight:

DDTW: I was hoping for Bartender to start off with, and the prelude to this song sounded like the Prelude to the Radio City Bartender so I thought I was gonna hear it, but honestly, this was a great opener nonetheless. "This Land is Your Land" interpolation fits so perfectly into this song and with the lyrics, I am glad I got to hear it.

One Sweet World: I have wanted to hear this live for a while and I enjoyed it a lot.

YMDT: WOW! this song blew my mind, I heard it in the encore at Blossom last year, but this song showed what Tim is doing for the band this summer. The jam at the end has evolved a lot. One of the nights best.

So Damn Lucky: I have read a lot of people's reviews saying this is amazing fullband; Amazing is an understatement. The extended outro for this song was one of the nights highlights for sure. They could make those guitar riffs in the outro into another great song for crying out loud. I was blown away.

Dreaming Tree: I know this song is not as rare as it used to be but I still fee priveleged to have heard it. Jeff Coffin knocked it out of the park..i mean field..with his flute solo...Miss you Roi.

Crash Into Me: ...and the ladies go wild. Finally, everyone else around me stood up. I like seeing this song live a lot better than just listening to it on a CD. A lot of energy.

World Ends: WHOA! first unexpected song of the night. A tour Debut in columbus. Still sounds great without Butch. No extended outro like Radio City though D&T fans.

Two Step: 3 shows for me...3 Two Steps. and I can not complain. 2006 i got it as the last song of the encore...2007 I got it as the show opener..and this year, I received it midset. I think it feels best as a closer, but holy crap did Carter and Tim rock it. Very nice Gentlemen.

Sledgehammer: I love this cover, and the band does it great. Is it just me or does Dave's voice really shine on this song?

The Maker: Unexpected # 2...I was really glad to hear this because it is one of my favorite covers by the band, and it is reminicient of their older Live Trax's. SOunds completely different with Tim...more emphasis on the guitar than the horns. River rise from your sleep lyrics at the end went on and on..which was sweet. Dave probably did it like 15 times, really shined.

Eh Hee: I love this song. The electric guitar by Tim is exactly what this song needed. A great rock song, and a slightly dark song with dark imagery on the screens behind the band.

Water/Wine Jam: Unexpected #3...Well the show could have ended after this song and I would have left smiling. HIGHLIGHT OF THE NIGHT!!! I feel bad that the people around me probably didnt realize what it was and didnt really listen to it. Great Lyrics, great jam...and a long version, longest of the tour maybe? I was in a trance to this; this is the song that is just so good and so unexpected, that unfortunately when its over, its a whirlwind, and you cant believe your ears. For anyone else that gets to hear this song and doesnt know it. If you hear Dave sing the lyrics I will bring you Water if you bring me wine, just be quiet and enjoy the gem that this jam is. PLEASE.

Cornbread: Finally. a little worried I wouldnt get to hear it. Besides the once again rare Shotgun, this is the best new song. SO much energy. Dave did his crazy old man dance, but he got cheap looking plastic orange sunglasses to wear while he danced. It was hilarious. The Tim guitar solo is great in conjunction with Dave dancing.

Jimi Thing: You have got to be kidding me. I have heard it before live, but didnt think I would hear it again for a long time. So pumped to hear it. As good as ever. Tim's solo sounds eerily similar to Butch playing the piano. For what its worth outro was great and didnt think he would do it since hes been on and off with it this tour.

Everyday: A lot of people despise this song, but I have wanted to hear it live. It was great. The #36 outro sounds very summer-like with Tim and Boyd playing together. Very Cool. I am not going to it, but is it too early to say that #36 should be brought back just once with an everyday outro perhaps at the 36th show of this amazing tour, in Cincinatti?...nvm..who am i kidding?

...Well needless to say, I thought that the set would have been over after Jimi, but then we got everyday...and then...

ASTB--> Too Much: ASTB is as good as ever, and the stop time intro is awesome....still never heard it after a So much to say...and then TOO MUCH....NO.. FAKE!!!!! FAKE!! WOW!

TRIPPING BILLIES!!!!!!!! Perfect segue by the band. SO glad to hear this song to close the set.

ENCORE:

Gravedigger: so the crowd was so pumped around the time Jimi thing was played that we started stomping the bleachers and creating crazy amounts of noise. The crowd was doing the same at the beginning of this, and I dont know how anyone in the stands could hear a Little Thing Tease...I unfortunately missed it underneath the noise..but gravedigger fullband is just as good as the dave solo made famous during many encores last year.

ANTS: Well after hearing Jimi, and Billies, I thought it would be fitting to get this and we did. I have wanted to hear the D&T intro like they did at the beginning of the tour, but I think thats gone for now...HOWEVERRRRR, Carter really changed up the snare intro...he added in some more beats and created a great drum solo before ants that is really good...the extended carter and boyd outro is also great and this is hands down the best ANTS i have ever heard. Perfect way to finish it off.

Well, I had an amazing time at the concert, and I could not ask for a better set. Great song choices, Great surprises, a tour debut, and an unbelievable Water/wine jam. I am once again going to Blossom tomorrow night, and we will see if they can top this nearly perfect set for me.

This is the 2nd arena show this tour that I've seen and I'm starting to prefer the amphitheaters over arenas.

Unbelievable show, awful crowd. There was no tailgating. Where I'm from in Pittsburgh the tailgating starts at like 9 or 10 o'clock in the morning for DMB concerts. My friends and I got to the Crew Stadium around 1:45 thinking we were late it ended up we were the only people in the parking lot till almost 6 it was a total tailgating let down. Then by the way the crowd sat in the seats for the first 3 or 4 songs. The set list was one of the best I have seen in a while and all of the solos made the concert by far the best concert I have ever been to.
