This show is one of the better ones I've been to in the last few years. Liked the Two Step opener; got the crowd going. Granny was so refreshing to hear...really loved that one. And of course #41, my favorite song. Haven't heard it since Madison Square Garden in the winter of 05. LIOG > Ants blew my mind and all the wonderful covers were unreal. I was saying to people before the show that I'd hope that Dave play a few more new covers this year. Melissa is one of my all-time favorite songs and Money was amazing. I was very happy to hear all I did I just wish the assholes behind me on the lawn could have been a little more tame. Too many drunk high school kids.

I must say, far better than night one but who didn't expect that. I'll give a quick rundown and something I noticed that is troubling in the early going with DMB this tour. (not to be negative)
Two Step - Wow, Tim filled in the riffs exactly like the album and the intro though without improv lyrics was spectacular in that it was as close to the original as you will get. Tim also killed his solo and left many of my friends who have since moved on to bands like Phish, Moe, and Widespread, open mouth and wide eyed.
Granny & Cornbread - Freaking Granny, are you serious and ofcourse 08 Cornbread is a HIT.
The next songs, though including a wonderful Satellite, were all well done though slightly a cut off from the explosive beginning. I must say YMDT was excellent tonight.
#41, Too Much, Melissa - Wow, 41 got tore a new one from Boyd and the boys and the Everyday outro was refreshing though somewhat of a repeat, Too Much was good though the break down jam at the end needed a Butch layer IMO and Melissa is freakin' Melissa, no need for Greg Allman!
LIOG - Ants Marching
Ahhh I think everyone knew we would see this and added to the wonder of the show, LIOG proved extraordinary with the emotion pouring from Boyd and a volcanic buildup of Tim's solo, the slow down was excellent with the band quiteing down and numerous sounds of laughter and talking was eerily similar to the Crash recording.
The Money Encore was in a word...awesome. No explanation needed.
And here is the HOWEVER, as much as Tim is doing wonders for the group and a "fuller" sound may trully be there with Tim on board, it is evident that the part of the horn section and notably Leroi is missing greatly from the concerts night in and night out. I love Tim's solos but I like to the soft fluid melodies from Leroi's saxes and pennywhistles and it is just not audible over Tim's jamming. Granted there were not a lot of Leroi and to an extent Rashawn heavy songs played, the instrumental intro into #41 missed Leroi's belting along with basically the entire ENCORE! Give the man a chance and have Tim jam on some songs, NOT ALL OF THEM!

Awesome show!! Best DMB Show here in Pittsburgh over the last few years. Great open with Two Step, the crowd was crazy and the band was really fired up! We really enjoyed the set list, #41, Granny, Rhyme & Reason and Ants were our highlights of the night. Enjoyed Money as the encore too. If tonight is any indication of the 2008 Tour, the rest of the country is in for a real treat!

Granted I have not been to that many shows but I listen to them enough to know that this was one of the best shows I will ever see. Two Step is one of my favorite songs and this was the best version I have ever heard. Tim and Carter killed it as they went back and forth. I cant wait to hear this song again. Granny, was awesome. I have a new appreciations for this song now. Corn Bread and Satellite was awesome. I thought Boyd was on point during Satellite. The full band So Damn Lucky was another high point of that song. It is such a good song and its great to hear the whole band play it. Four other songs I truly enjoyed were You Might Die Trying and #41 (probably one of my favorite songs of the night), Gravedigger, and Rhyme or Reason. I thought they rocked Rhyme or Reason. However, I was on cloud nine until Dave started playing Lie In Our Graves. MY mouth dropped and I freakin rose to cloud 67. And right when they slowed down before the reprise I closed my eyes to just be flooded by the music, I hear Carter start banging on the snare drum. My first thought was "oh this is new" the I instantly went "NO FREAKIN WAY". I turned to my friend and told him they did not need an encore. The encore rocked, it was a treat hearing Money. They played both songs to perfection and Leroi destroyed Money. He is the man. Cant wait til Nissan.

What a delight it was to see a former Dispatcher open up for DMB. Also, the PG Pavilion is beautiful venue. The show was probably my best experience yet due to some wonderful chill time in the lot and meeting great people. Only disappointment came at the encore when DMB didn't play any DMB. Yeah, it was cool to hear Money, but how can you end a show with 2 cover songs?

Fantastic show -- a little short, the jams weren't as thorough as they usually are, but this is all most likely in response to Butch + readjustments. Energy was high, everything was great. This was the best dmb show I've ever been to.
The Two Step opener was amazing.
Granny is still one of the best songs this band plays live.
Corn Bread is turning out to be one of the best new songs in recent years, right behind shotgun.
You Might Die Trying is my favorite song from Stand Up, always a treat.
#41 was amazing as usual, especially with Tim!
Melissa was a real shocker.
It was also great to hear Too Much the old way, without the slow down middle part. While I liked the slow down middle, it was time for a change. Especially after last years extreme slow down, I think that version had been fully explored.
The Some Devil songs being played with the full band this year is a welcome addition with Tim Reynolds on tour.
LIE IN OUR GRAVES, My favorite Dave Matthews Band song. I Loved every second of it. Boyd was spot on with his soloing, and Tim was ready and waiting to answer. The perfect segue into Ants was amazing, and a fitting end to a nearly perfect show.
As Ants ended, I told my friend that this was already the best show I'd ever seen. I was curious what the band could do in the encore to improve this show? I was unaware at that time, that the answer to this question was 2 cover songs.
A note: I loved Butch Taylor, I thought he really had a lot to add to this band. Some songs I really liked in the past such as Bartender, will never be the same. He will surely be missed, but right now with Tim Reynolds on this tour... I haven't noticed yet.

From the first words when dave came out to introduce state radio (something about needing to go suck on a lozenge) to the great davespeak that ended with "You can kiss my ENTIRE ass" to the last notes of Money it was a special night in the old hills of Pennsylvania.
we took along our three kids (12, 9 and 8) for their 10th dmb show - they made t shirts with pictures of Ants Marching in hopes that DMB would play their favorite song.. and they got it! the first taps of carter's sticks at the end of LIOG unleashed pure pandemonium all across the lawn..
memorable (most or least?) sight of the night was the young college girl who after the show pulled her skirt off and popped a squat right there in the middle of the lawn. i guess that means summer 2008 is officially here.

I feel like I'm being tough on the guys for giving them a 3 on consecutive nights, but I gotta say tonights show (while awesome for those who missed last night's show) didn't do much for me until the encore. The setlist was similar in style (and even in songs) to the 5/30 show. I'm sure it has something to do with the band getting familiar with Timmy and some of the Dave and Friends songs (which I believe they'll be playing a lot this summer tour).
The encore was awesome. Good songs to cover, and covered well.

Dave Matthews Band
May 31, 2008
Post-Gazette Pavilion at Star Lake, Burgettstown, PA
Preshow ~ tailgated once again with some of the coolest people on the planet. love all of you.
Two Step ~ great opener. the LCD lights came on and they started to jam. Timmy and LeRoi killed this jam. wonderful.
Granny ~ first time i've heard it since star lake in 2005. amazing song and everyone went with it.
Corn Bread ~ 1st repeat of the night, Carter got it going and everyone followed. becoming a fan fave.
Satellite ~ good to see them busting out this tune. very mellow but everyone sang along.
So Damn Lucky ~ 2nd repeat of the night. these Some devil tracks are becoming very good. it will be interesting to see how it matures with the band.
The Maker ~ would have loved to hear this before two step like the old days. a lot of people didn't really know the song that well. it was nice they brought it back.
Where Are You Going ~ Filler song. people sang. the end
You Might Die Trying ~ 3rd repeat of the night. Dave said he really liked this song. so they played it.
#41 ~ Finally! I haven't heard this one since 2005 and it was the song we have been waiting for. Dave & Boyd rocked this one. everyone in the world was happy to hear it.
Too Much ~ I love how they play the music videos on the screen this year. brings back good memories. They didn't slow it down like last year in the middle. LeRoi rocked this one.
Melissa ~ nice Allman brothers cover. kinda killed the energy though. not many people know of this song. (alot of kids tonight).
Gravedigger ~ 4th Repeat Carter and Timmy started the song. becoming a big band hit. better than last night In my opinion.
Rhyme and Reason ~ 5th Repeat. i pretty much wrote this song off when i heard it till LeRoi & Reshawn took over. they played a very funky and bizarre jam in the middle. the whole band was just watching and grooving. the crowd got into it. good choice.
#27 ~ 6th repeat. i thought last night was better. Dave Broke a string and sorta wandered off to get a new guitar.
Lie In Our Graves ~ Boyd killed the solo as always. gotta love this song. makes people happy.
...>
Ants Marching ~ nice way to end the set. soo much energy going into this song. what a way to end the night
Encore:
Money ...>
Money That's What I Want
Great set of songs. i enjoyed last night more though. listen to this and see if you like it.
Notes
* I would like to say that this band sounds 10 years younger with the edition of Reshawn Ross and Tim Reynolds compare these songs to last year and you will know what im talking about.
* Six repeats for 1 night is too much. i know they are gettin the kinks out of the songs but there was no reason for you might die trying two nights in a row.
* Cover songs are great but we don't need 3 in one night. stick to your own music but last night was still amazing.
* Dave told a story about a duck that followed him. then he wanted to tell the duck to kiss his whole ass.
* Dave also stated that he "Loved his job"
* Tim is better than Butch. listen to the music and just agree
* I want to thank all the ants who i met for making it such an amazing weekend.
Feel free to hate away
* And Do NOT FORGET TO THANK THE TAPERS. WITHOUT THEM YOU'D HAVE TO GO BUY THE CDs. Thank you to the 3 tapers i saw out there.

I'll say right off the bat... This was the best DMB show I have ever seen. Ive seen somewhere between 15-20 shows. Yes, I know they played quite a few songs from night 1, but that is separate from this night. Yes, LeRoi and Rashawn need turned up. I dont disagree with that. But...
...Great Two Step opener...Granny is always a treat (by this point, I turned to my friends and told them it was already better than night 1)...Satellite is always nice to hear...Even got a 4 song lull to pee during (Sorry, The Maker is pretty, but I could do without)... Came back for a wonderful #41...Too Much always has great energy (and it was a treat to hear no slow breakdown. I was getting bored with it after 4 years or so of slow-ness)...
Now... Melissa. Are you f&@$#%g kidding me? This is one of my favorite songs ever. So beautiful, and having Tim there for it was exceptional...Melissa helped carry me thru the next 3 songs...Probably the best LIOG I have witnessed. Boyd tore it up during the song. Honestly, stomping around the stage. It kinda felt like he was saying "Hey Tim, youre good and all. But THIS is why I'm in the band!!" Blew the place up, never thought he was gonna stop. And of course, Tim held his own (to put it mildly).
I turned to my friends and started to sing the accapella "I cant believe that we could...." part after the jam, only to be interrupted by the staccata drums of ants. Perfect.
So, while the band took their sweet time returning to the stage, we were trying to figure out how they could top LIOG>Ants. We all knew it would be tough.
They did. Without a doubt.
Complain all you want about covers and no Jimi/Nancies/Warehouse you want, but my group of 10 blew up when they played Pink Floyd>Beatles Money jam. I mean, cmon. Floyd and Beatles? Beyond words. I couldnt stop laughing it was so unbelieveable.
No, not every song brought the house down, and there were quite a few repeats (its early in the tour, give em time to work on their repertoire) but its tough to deny that LIOG>Ants - Money>Money (That's What I Want) wasnt one of the best song cycles you could hope for.
Add in Two Step, 41, Melissa and Granny with a heaping helping of one of the greatest guitarists ever (You are my god, Mr Reynolds) and it was a fantasic show.
Oh, and honestly... Yeah, Butch Taylor was nice to have around. He was serviceable in his job as keyboardist, and Im not saying anything bad about him. But, c'mon. There seriously cant be one person out there who truly missed him this weekend. Tim Reynolds was there. Tim Reynolds! I cant fathom how anyone could rather have Butch over Tim. I LOVED seeing DMB with a lead guitarist. Yes, they are original in the fact that they dont have one. But when the opportunity comes to see DMB with the greatest living guitarist..... I just can not understand how someone could wish for Butch instead.

Two as encores? not sure I wouldn't had rather seen DMB songs (Warehouse, Nancies, Jimi) vs two new covers but still pretty cool. As was the case for night one, I gave this show 4 stars. While the show had a great feel, there were some problems. I agree with those who say that Leroi isn't being heard very well. It's a shame.
For the show: a great "Two Step" to start things off. "Granny" was a treat and "Cornbread" always gets the crowd up. The slow stretch (i.e. "Satellite", "The Maker", "Where Are You Going") seemed to take the early energy out of the crowd, but the band picked it up nicely towards the end with "Too Much" and "Rhyme and Reason" (a staple for this tour?).
As was the case with night 1, the highlight was the end of the set, with a much-loved "Lie in our Graves" flowing into "Ants Marching". The crowd was ready to rock after the slow numbers.
Of course, the encore was completely unexpected to most. "Money" sounded very good and "Money That's What I Want" wasn't bad. I just kind of wish I would have heard one DMB song in the encore (as was the case night one).
The band seems ready for a great summer tour. I hope they keep up the surprises!

Even thought that they played 6 songs from the first night the concert was still good. I was kinda disappointed with the encores. You have to end on a dave song.

First off, I was only at this show and not the one the night before which turned out to be a good thing because the high number off repeats from the previous night. Mr. Taylor is the man, BUT the new DMB sound is bad ass!! It has got a lot more kick to it which produced a cool righteous sound. This show was so much fun, I heard a lot of songs for the first time like some of my favorites like Granny, Maker, and LIOG. LIOG was AWESOME cause Timmy had a really great and long solo. The some devils songs played sounded really good with the full band. And how often to you get to hear the guys cover four songs, speaking of which Melissa was super sweet. And when it comes to the encore I don't know what to say then "The best things in life are free but you can give them to the birds and the bees I want money..thats what i want!!" And the guys did great justice to Pink Floyd's Money as well (Stefan was the man during it)..this was my 5th show and hands down the tightest encore yet. I am expecting a lot of surprises from the guys this tour :-D !!!

Money!
Nice set, especially compared to opening night. The band is still a little timid trying to find their groove with Tim on board and Dave seemed to have a little trouble with his throat tonight (although he hid it pretty well)...
Highlights:
Lie in our Graves - Boyd = fantastic, and Tim's solo completely rocked as a filler for Butch here... (segued nicely into Ants!)
Other highlights included Money --> Money (really fantastic, get this on tape... Dave goes off on it and Tim solos fantastically and and and ... its solid!); Rhyme; 41 was beautiful and Two step was a neat opener although Dave did not do any improv intro lyrics which was a little bit of a bummer...
a few other notes:
too much is no longer broken down w/ the slow part, and here is where you notice butch is missing a bit....
so damn lucky was better on the second go round with the full band...
really enjoyed the evening... Id say an A- show

So, the set list was pretty good. I saw some new songs, So Damn Lucky, Melissa, and the two Money covers at the end. It was awesome to hear some new songs, but I wish they would have been DMB songs that I haven't heard yet. Also, they didn't do the tag at the end of Lie in Our Graves, which I was hoping they would during the encore. Also, back to the DMB song thing, I wish they would have added one on at the end of the two money covers. HOWEVER, the covers were very well done. This was my 9th show, 1st with Tim, 1st without Butch. They also played 6 of the same songs from the night before, which if I had gone to the 1st show, I definitely would have been disappointed. Before moving onto the positive stuff, I will also say that I AM NOT from Pittsburgh, and so the "Let's Go Pen(guin)s" chant was very obnoxious throughout the night. Then of course they weren't saying anything after they LOST HAHA!!! Also, the bus ride over some insane chick was harassing me for being "Anti-Pittsburgh." Whatever.
So, after thinking about it, this concert was very well done. It was a pretty good setlist, and Tim definitely lit up some songs that I usually am not too wild about, For example: Rhyme and Reason was totally awesome with his solo. Two Step into Granny was awesome too. And I love So Damn Lucky, so it was really cool to hear that. 41, LIOG, and Ants were fantastic as always. I was kinda hoping for a Break Free or Shotgun in place of 27. All in all, this was a very good concert, but not my favorite. Again, sorry for the people that went to both nights and saw lots of the same songs, but it's early on, so they're probably trying to lay some stuff down before they expand their library. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do in Camden.
