The band seemed to be having a ball. Dave was dancin' and he added a little hip groove to his moves. Very nice! - Nice mix of old and new music. The Roots mixed in well with the band. It was very cool to hear a Sousaphone and a Penny Whistle on Bartender. - The traffic coming in wasn't cool. I thought I left enough time to see the opening act but after spending 2 hours going only 2 miles, We hit the pavilion the same time as DMB.

This was a pretty dam good show, and like many others wish i could've heard the Dreaming Tree Tease over the crowd noise every time someone someone would faceplant down the lawn and spilling beer everywhere. #41 was the highlight of the show for me, and they went off and Lawlor was amazing. Excellent solo. Well for the rest of the day, waiting in line to park sucked, my car died getting in, sandals broke so had no footwear before the show, Mud everywhere!, taking my chances of climbing the hill instead of the sidewalk, car died getting out, # of tow trucks it took to get me out of Alpine = 4!, and a drunk girlfriend. Overrall this show didn't live up to the 7/2/06 show last year, but still LOVED IT!!! Besides the horrible staff at alpine, DMB didn't dissappoint.

The most amazing thing was having them wait an hour to start and clearing curfew with the county! I've been going to shows for 12 + years and that was a first :) THANK YOU DMB!!!!!!! I must say though I had the best time in the car before the show and had great company and our own pre concert!

This was the show that opened that parking gates three hours late. I'd guess that 5,000-10,000 people got in late because of it and were therefore angry which sends a bad vibe throughout. As a result, DMB didn't have the good energy to go off of like they did night two.

Unfortunately my purchase of lawn tickets to this evenings show was a waste...not only did I end up waiting in line on Hwy 120 for 3 hours and only move 2 miles, but the show was almost over by the time I got close to the parking lot. My low rating is not for the show, the show (based on the setlist) would get at least a 4 but with the 1 ranking I'd have to give the staff and security at Alpine on Saturday night, the rating drops. My Lower Pavilion tickets for Sunday totally made up for this disappointing turn of events on Saturday, tho...

First off, this weekend was sick!! After 45 shows, this weekend were two of the most solid shows I have seen in a long time. Also the ROOTS are the best openers for Dave in a long time. BELIEVE ME, THEY WERE THE SHIT!! The lawn was extremely muddy and messy from Rage and all of the rain because I fell on my ass about 3 times, but it's all good because we are seeing Dave. Also tailgating at Alpine, I believe is the best place in the country. Overall this was the noob night. They had to get most of these songs out of the way the first night. Here is my review for the weekend, starting with the first show.
Two Step-was great to hear as an opener. It really got the crowd going. I thought it was a good choice because many people saw Seek Up in the Chi.
YMDT- Good to hear. I think this was a feeler for band to see how the crowd was feeling.
Loving Wings- GREAT VERSION. Very long and very good choice.
STJL- "I got a sister named Jane and this is the Song that Jane Likes..." Again very good to hear and also a good version. I'm glad they brought this out for Alpine two years in a row.
WTWE-Solid
#27-Good new song. Cornbread is better.
LB-Shelf it
Bartender, Crash- Solid.
#41- Very good, but no cheers to Dave outro. They gave the crowd a chance, but I guess the crowd didnt realize what was going on.
Cornbread- Very good new song. Dont know what they say beside the tape, but I think we just sing and fill in our own words. "ba aba cornbread, lets get baked like cornbread....blah blah you get the point.
Nancies- Always great to hear.
After this, every song after was solid. Warehouse especially with Questlove!!

Two Step--Solid opener, I was hoping they would keep pulling tricks out of their hat and open up Alpine with Ants, but this was a nice start to the weekend
Die Trying--Great version, no matter what people say, I like this song.
Loving Wings--YES!!!!! Solid. So nice to hear. Nice additions from Rashawn/Roi.
I got a sister, and this is the Song that Jane Likes!!! --(don't need to comment on this one because it's always nice hearing this)
When the World Ends --good energy. expected to hear it, so no getting around it
#27 --easily my favorite new song of the night. I love the lyrics and the band sounds really, really good on it. Reminds me of Hello Again.
Lousiana Bayou --again, if people don't like this song, then they don't ever give it a chance live. Boyd went nuts and it was definitely rocking.
Bartender --I actually didnt get bored of the ending jam like I usually do, so I guess thats a good thing. Crowd really got into when Dave was wailing.
Crash -- Nice version.
#41 --Amazing version. I wish Lawlor guested with them more (or at least it makes me hungrier for Tim to play on the entire tour. It's amazing to see DMB with a true lead guitarist who just goes nuts during the jams) No everyday outro though....
Cornbread --Coming into the show, I think this was my favorite new song on tape. After the show, I'd say it was my least favorite out of the three new ones. Seemed to lack cohesion and band energy like the other two do. Oh well....
Dancing Nancies --Boyd tore this one up! I always love hearing this live cause the jam is awesome. I was hoping that they played it into Warehouse, but nope....(even though Warehouse was played later, it was probably done so ?uestlove could play on it).
Grey Street-- Awesome jammed out version. The horn players from the Roots really took this one as their own. Get a copy of this!
Eh Hee --Very cool, lacking something though.
Warehouse --I'm about ready to call this one my favorite song to hear live. There's something about it that always gets me more crazy than any other song they play. Tight version....Only complaint was that the annoying (and tall) people in front of me starting doing the Chicken Dance during it. If you think I'm joking, I'm not.
Dreaming Tree Tease --I would have done very dirty things to the girl in front of me if they played this song.
Stay --Expected to hear this night 1. Fun way to end the main set.
-----
Sister --Not really sure how much the Rashawn/Carter/Butch singing tandem behind Dave adds, but whatever....
Dreamgirl-- only time I rolled my eyes tonight. Oh well, I'd rather have it in a useless encore spot than early in a show and kill the energy right off the bat.
Billies --Simply an amazing way to end a better than expected Night 1 to alpine. A lot left to be desired for tomorrow night....

incredible crew of guests at this show. The Roots played about 4 to 5 songs with the band including dominating performances by their horns section and then Joe Lawler absolutely tore up #41 on the electric. great to hear Loving Wings live for the first time. maybe more than anything though, I will remember this show for the "mud lawn" and the great struggle everybody had to get up the hill at the end of the show. overall, a very solid and memorable show. cannot wait for tomorrow night!

My friend and I traveled to WI for the show from MA and CT, respectively. All I have to say is that the band did not disappoint. Everything that is said about Alpine is absolutely true. The band feeds off the crowd's energy, which was by far the most I've experienced. The set was great, the highlight being #41 with Mr. Lawlor. I didn't think the LS version could be topped - this might have topped it. Joe Lawlor is an incredible musician. Dave was dancing all over the place and Carter was all smiles from start to finish (at the start of the show someone threw a hockey jersey on stage..Dave picked it up and handed it to Carter - cool to see). Butch was as into it as that man could have been, I think. Another cool thing to see was Rashawn and Leroi teaching guest horns (The Roots' trumpet and sax players sat in for most of the set) horn parts to the songs as the show progressed. All in all, great great show, great people. AWFUL traffic situation, but well worth it. Here's to an awesome experience at the legendary Alpine!

For my first Alpine show, i was impressed to say the least. I was very surprised of how many songs he played off of Crash and UTTAD. From where i was, i couldn't hear the davespeak very well, but the songs he played definitely made up for it. This was also the first time I have heard #41 live, and for it being my favorite song of all time, it was very welcomed. Overall, just a phenomenal show and next year I plan on going to both nights.

The traffic coming in was the worst I have ever seen. We were stuck 1 mile from the entrance for almost 4 hours. I turned my car off and got out. People were grilling and playing Frisbee on the side of the road. The delay made the normally amazing parking lot atmosphere seem rushed. What little chance there was of me going in early to see the roots was obliterated, which was unfair to them. I was in the lawn and it was the muddiest I can ever remember it being. In my opinion Joe Lawlor saved the night during #41. Second best version of that song ever (1st being live trax encore….).

My first trip to this venue that has instantly become my favorite. An amazing building. After four 90+ degree shows on this tour, the cool temps were welcome. This was an excellent performance by the band and the Roots guesting on
several songs really added a lot to the show. Highlights for me were hearing Eh Hee full band first time, and Joe Lawlor's guitar contributions to #41.

This is a review based on the 10 songs we actually witnessed and the traffic. As stated before, the traffic getting to the venue was the worst in 5 years. This caused many people to miss the first 1/3 to 1/2 of the concert. Live Nation should have realized they had a recipe for trouble when they scheduled a last minute Friday concert before DMB. If Rage played on a different weekend, all of the traffic issues would have been solved. On the setlist, Dreamgirl is better off as an opener or early set song, not in the E1 or E2 position. It killed the energy at Indy night 1 and it killed the energy tonight. Otherwise, no other complaints

Only reason did not receive 5 stars was the fact that the PA was jacked up or something, either way could not hear. Bad traffic, lots of mud, tons of idiots around me in the lawn. Man was I happy when this show finally started.
Dreaming Tree (tease) - Missed this one due to the jackass volume in the lawn...thanks.
Two Step - Just a great way to start off a weekend, I had a feeling we would be hearing this to open at least one of the nights. Butch was on fire tonight!!
You Might Die Trying - The more I hear this song, the more I like it. It has got a good ending (I guess everyone says that, though).
Loving Wings - Crazy energy at the end in this great song. So happy to see it without WAYG attached to it.
The Song That Jane Likes - When you hear him say, "I've got a sister named Jane..." your heart starts rocking. What a great song, really wanted to see this!
When The World Ends - Ehh, energy killer. The crowd around me like it too much. I figured this one was coming this weekend, so I guess it was nice to get it out of the way.
#27 - Really nice version. I am really digging this song.
Louisiana Bayou + - I can't stand this song, but it's nice to see it in the middle of the set instead of ending it. Roots horns were great, and Boyd was jammin' pretty hard.
Bartender + - Wanted to see this, and was quite happy! Great version. Dave was wailing. The Roots' horns added a lot to this one (especially the sousaphone), give it a listen on the tape for sure.
Crash Into Me + - I'll take the album version so I don't have to hear 40,000 people singing loud and off key (this was kind of the story of the night for me).
#41 ~ - Hoping for Tom Morello, but Lawlor definitely tore this one apart. Really the highlight of the night.
Corn Bread - Just a cool song, I'm liking it.
Dancing Nancies + - I could hear this one at every show I go to.
Grey Street + - Got out the 12 string and I was hoping for SUAD, but this will do. Roots' horns tore this one up in the extended outro.
Eh Hee % - ?uest Love on the drums, gotta love it. This song is coming along. Rashwan was singing backup vocals and playing a really low trumpet part that sounded phenomenal.
Warehouse % - Another one I could hear at every show I go to. Great version!
Stay - Ehh, never like it when it starts, but try to stop yourself from loving by the end of the song!
Encore:
Sister # - Standard, love the "male choir" around the piano.
Dream Girl - Something along the lines of "We play this because we like it." I knew after that that this was coming. Really did a number on this show in a negative way. I can't even imagine why they put this E2. If you wanna play it, fine, but please not in the encore.
Tripping Billies - With intro, great song, and an excellent way to end a great show.
All in all, a pretty great show (especially for n1). Looking forward to it getting topped tonight. Here's t Dreaming Tree!

I would have enjoyed the show much more if I hadn't been so stressed. Traffic in was horrible due to rain of past couple days - fortunately we found a back way that got us in before show started. My daughter missed the first hour of the show. We stayed on the lawn until she got there - hardly knew they had played 2 step. Once we got to seats it was better. However getting out was a nightmare. Started out during intermission and got caught in crush of people - lost my cell phone and took 2 hours to exit from venue and parking lot.

DMB was great--loved Boyd playing the electric guitar instead of the violin in "#41". Kick Ass. However, this show sucked because of something that DMB could not control and had nothing to do with; Alpine Valley ruined it big time for many many fans who, like us, were unable to get to or leave the venue without up to 2 hours of delay. We got to the exit for the venue (less than a mile from the highway) and reached a complete stand still in traffic from every direction. We reached the exit ramp at 7:15 pm last night, but couldn't even get to it because the line of cars was all the way up the ramp to the interstate! We had to stop on the highway! Very unsafe. By the time we were down the ramp and past the two small stretches of road & finally to the venue parking lot, it was 9:00. I couldn't fucking believe I missed the Roots, and I missed the beginning of the DMB show--something I have never done. I am completely pissed off that Alpine dropped the ball on this one. They usually have it together but I speculate that the staff who was working the show--from "Live Nation"--was completely incompetent and not the typical Alpine staff. That's just a guess, though. We left after the 2nd song in the encore and still got stuck on Alpine's MUD HILL trying to get out and to the car. It took us over an hour to get out of the venue and to our car! By that time there was so much traffic that we said "FUCK IT" and opened up my tailgate and waited it out. Good thing I was with somebody super cool & chill, or I would have started a riot or something. I'm contemplating never going to Alpine Valley again. It was ridiculous and completely unacceptable. Very unfair and disappointing. Was anyone else caught up in that bullshit?

Dreaming Tree [tease] - I thought I heard it, but wasn't sure. Anyway...
Two Step* - Awesome way to start the show. Great version.
You Might Die Trying* - This song has really grown on me. I was into it, although it was expected. I was having fun.
Loving Wings* - Where did this come from? Not expecting it at all, and I loved it. I was expecting WAYG next, but instead got...
The Song That Jane Likes* YES! I was fucking pumped. It was my second Jane, and I loved every second of it. I couldn't have been happier.
When The World Ends* - Saw the 12 string and was hoping for Sweet Up and Down, but got this instead. I actually enjoyed it. Standard.
#27* - I haven't listened to any of the new songs, I wanted to experience them live first. So, I can't really relate these to previous versions, but I really, really dig this song.
Louisiana Bayou*+ - I've seen enough of this song, but I rocked out to it. I was dancing my ass off.
Bartender*+ - Awesome up until the Butch solo. Bartender is and always will be one of my favorites, so I was really glad to see it.
Crash Into Me*+ - Girlfriend was there and loved it. It was Crash.
#41*~ - HOLY FUCK. Highlight of the night for sure. AWESOME. Lawlor fucking rocked this 41. God damn. Possibly the best 41 I've ever heard.
Corn Bread* - Haven't heard this one full band yet before either, and...wow. This song rocks hard. I was dancing and singing my ass off.
Dancing Nancies*+ Awesome awesome awesome. I wasn't expecting Nancies at all this weekend for some reason, but I got it, and it was great. I was really hoping for Warehouse next, obviously, but Grey Street leaves no complaints.
Grey Street*+ - Horns during the outro were fantastic. Very good version of Grey Street. As good as I can imagine it without the 3rd verse.
Eh Hee *Ä - I'm not sure if it's just gotten a lot better, or it was Questlove on the drums, or what, but I'm not sure why this song has been getting such shitty reviews for full band versions. It was my first time hearing it full band (obviously) and I loved it. My girlfriend said it was the her 2nd favorite song of the night (behind 41). Fucking great.
Warehouse*Ä - Oh.....awesome...So sad to not see it after Nancies and here it is. Warehouse was fantastic. They nailed it.
Stay (Wasting Time)* - Eh. I was hoping for Ants or something, but I guess at least get it out of the way. I knew it was coming at some point over the weekend. I was so happy I enjoyed it anyway.
Encore:
Sister5|| - Sister is Sister.
Dream Girl* - I sat down for this. This song should never be in this slot.
Tripping Billies* - Fuck. Yes. Way to save the encore. Perfect way to close a show. This version was no exception. Rocked the house.

This was my 69th show and first time at Alpine. The show itself was great, so much energy and the guys sounded great. The traffic - holy god. Our hotel was 4 miles from the venue and it took an hour and a half to get there. I feel bad complaining when I see that other people were stuck for 4 hours and missed part of the show but the point is, there was absolutely no reason for the delay. I didn't see anything other than incompetence to explain why you can't move the cars into the empty spaces!! Every cop we passed was too busy chatting with his/her buddies to direct traffic. Sunday was better getting in the parking lot but a nightmare getting out.
The show was fantastic and I really liked Alpine other than the traffic! It was bad enough to make me think I won't go back there.

Great Energy! Questlove on Warehouse and Eh Hee was great. The Roots horns and specifically a sousaphone solo at the end of bartender highlighted. Couldn't ask for a better setlist...other than shotgun and sugar will...but that's just asking for too much!

Awesome show from a personal view. I had a much better time then even last year's Sunday show at Alpine. We got in okay (showed up before the lots opened) and had a good parking spot (out of the mud)and did a little after-show partying, so we weren't in any rush to get out. We had a great spot on the lawn, right on the rail. The Roots horns added a lot to the 5 or so songs they played on and I thought set list was just a great mix of songs. The sound guy could have turned it up a few dBs... when he did at the very end of the encore, it sounded really awesome.
Carter seemed to be having the most fun and was getting some monster bubbles from his gum.
I thought Alpine did a good job putting straw down on the hill, and at least at the beginning of the night it was doing some good. But of course, as the night wore on, the hill wore down and I saw plenty of people sliding around. I somehow managed to stay out of the mud the whole night, and as most people didn't, I can see why this would be a four-star show for most.

As far as the whole parking lot situation goes: yea, it sucked that some ppl missed the first half of the concert but come on, what do you expect when we've had rain for like a week straight and there was a RATM concert the night before?
I made it to the line by about 5:30 and cracked open a beer and hung out with other ppl waiting. I finally made it into the parking lot at around 9ish and was coming over the top of the hill just as Two Step started so I didn't really miss much. The hill was like a giant mud slide. My friends and I eventually planted ourselves on the edge of one of the walkways. Half my fun for the night was watching ppl slip on their a$$e$. It never got old.
Bartender went on for just about 20 minutes. A great song but I dont know how much I love the long jams on the slower songs. Still great how much emotion Dave puts into it. Warehouse with ?uestlove of the Roots was definitely one of the favorites of the night.
All in all, the setlist could have better but it was still a great night. If you were there for N2 you'll know what I mean by saying N1 and N2 complement each other well.

Always helps to be close but you can't go wrong with Dave at Alpine. Dave had more energy the second night but he still pulled out a great show with the Two Step opener. Way to shut the two step chants right off the bat. All in all, it was amazing.

Oh and all the people complaining about the parking lot/traffic/mud, sit back and think for a second. Wisconsin has not seen this much rain in the month of August in 110 years, and Rage Against the Machine played at Alpine Friday night. Rain plus Rage, equals mud. They didn't even open the parking lot until 4 because it was flooded and still had cars stuck in it from the night before. So chill out, the staff did the best they could with the conditions they had

Ok, forget the fact that we live 1 hour from Alpine but it took 4 hours to get there, that the fields smelled like poo-poo, that the people next to us (once we parked) were playing music that I didn't even recognize (isn't it an unwritten rule that you're supposed to play dave at a dave concert?) Besides all that the concert was awesome! The crowd was fun. A blast as usual.
p.s. I'm not complaining, I'm merely stating facts.

I know the traffic was ridiculous, it happened to us too. It was my 23rd show, 10th at Alpine, and I missed the first few songs for the first time ever! It was heartbreaking sitting in traffic knowing he'd gone on without us, but by the time we arrived at our seats all was forgotten. We had third row which was amazing. The set list was awesome and Dave was playful as hell, which I love. Haven't heard #41 in awhile, and it was unreal. All said, another fine evening in the valley. For anyone soured on this venue after the experience- DON'T BE!! Alpine is the best place to see Dave and the boys in this area of the country. Can't wait to do it again next year!!

Great show, great set, definitely a better set (imho) than the 2006 Alpine show. It was nice to finally hear Eh Hee and Cornbread in person. The guitar solo on #41 was EPIC!
I too was stuck in traffic for 3 hours getting into the show. Easily the worst traffic in my 6 years going to Dave at Alpine. Very frustrating and very annoying, especially when there was no explanation as to why. I actually hunted down a sheriff's deputy and asked what the story was, and this is what I found out.
The night before at the Rage concert someone got so drunk/high/whatever that they either passed out in the mud and 'drowned' or were hit by a car and no one noticed. Either way, the body wasn't found until crews started cleaning up on Saturday morning, so the gates were closed because there was an active crime scene investigation going on. Did anyone else notice the big crime scene unit truck on the way into the concert?
Anyways, it was frustrating to sit in traffic, but it's also pretty terrible about the person who died. It was VERY muddy so I can totally see that happening.
Regardless, great show and a great time as always. I'll definitely be back next year for #7.

Tease tease tease. I would have completely lost it had the band played dreaming tree, but the show was incredible without it. I knew once they opened with two step that we were in for a special night. I had great people all around me and a great view of the stage. Highlights of the show included stjl, god i love that song. #27 was out of this world and is easily my favorite new song. Bartender had so much energy and of course #41 sends shivers down my spine everytime i hear the first chord. the only thing i would have changed would have been the encore. It was nice to hear a three song encore and i love billies with the nature intro...great way to close the show. However, i would have liked to have seen a.b. intro instead of dreamgirl, but i really cannot complain. Looking forward to seeing sweet up and down and dreaming tree tonight. Best show i've seen since "SuperFreak" 4 years ago. DMB has still got their mojo!!!
