It was a Damn good show.....
If you honestly can say that cornbread, Sweet up and Down, and #27 didn't put a huge smile on your face..... Then you are not a true fan
Get over all your stupid complaints about the setlists and ENJOY THE AMAZING MUSIC ON THIS TOUR
nice show as always boys....no Two step in Pitt was a little dissapointing, but busting out an awesome Watchtower, and bringin back Shotgun to the place it was first heard was awesome. Can't wait for that new album

The more and more I think about this show tonight, the more I realize how good of a show it really was. Although the set list wasn't what I had hoped for in my head the one thing I noticed in all the songs is that the band was in good form. I was very surprised on how tight they sounded. Dave had his good moments where he really opened up and belted it out like during American Baby Intro and Watchtower. All and all in what was a good night to be a Dave Matthews fan.

It was great! The set list was interesting. I'm liking the new songs and the edits in the songs they debuted last year. I'm not too sure about the new groove that Carter set up in The Idea Of You. But, it was still great! :)
The only problem with the whole thing that in Seek Up and Hunger For the Great Light the sound guy cut out the back speakers to the lawn seats. One of my friends went down to one of the employees and told him to turn it up during Seek Up. Then, when it cut out AGAIN during HFTGL, my friend started to chant "TURN IT UP! TURN IT UP! TURN IT UP! TURN IT UP!" The next thing you know the entire lawn was chanting this. And you know what? He turned it up!

A very unusual set list. I thought there would be more hits packed in considering there was only one show this year. I was happy with the new material. Could have done with out hearing Stay for the billionth time but Dave made up for it ten times over with Some Devil. In my opinion, it was one of the best accoustic tunes he's done. AMAZING!! Also, whoever was in charge of sound last night should be fired. I had a seat and no problems but I feel bad for the people that were on the lawn.

Decent show. I made a long drive from DC that started at about 1:30pm and got into the seating area just as they took the stage. Seek Up opener is always a good treat, and I didn't mind YMDT and HFTGL too much, although those aren't my favorite songs. It was my first time hearing #27 and Cornbread and I thought the former was ok and the latter was great. I wasn't a very big fan of DDTW at first (many years ago) but I've grown to like that song a lot. Solid performance at this show. I loved the ATSB intro and can always go for Too Much. Being up close I got a kick out of watching Stefan slide across the front of the stage during ASTB. Another solid performance. Sister and Grey Street were average but good to hear. This Bayou has convinced me I like that song a lot. I've always liked it but it's a really good energy boost when Boyd gets to go off (I know I'm in the minority but I'm not a big fan of the Randolph version to be honest). Boyd did his running dance in front of Carter which was cool. I remember Shotgun being better, but tonight I really didn't get into it. It just seemed to drag way too long. Sweet Up and Down. My first one ever. Simply awesome. Crush and Stay were two good ones to end the main set. Hearing Some Devil again was great. I really would like to see a Dave and Friends show again. AB Intro is always cool. Then there was Watchtower. I hate this freaking song but it was great that night because I got to leave early and beat the traffic. Good thing too because I was parked way in the back and already had a limited amount of sleep for that night. First time I've ever welcomed that song. Pretty good show though and I'm glad I made it. First time at that venue or in PA. One observation I made was that I've never seen so many drunk people in my life. And they were obnoxiously drunk. Thankfully my seats were up close and I avoided many of them. I couldn't imagine what the lawn was like. Must have been torture.

I naturally enjoyed Dave and the boys, however I would have liked to hear some differnt songs. I was really hopeing for Two Step, Ants Marching, or maybe even something like Trippig Billies as the encore song. Not that I didn't enjoy All Along the Watchtower, its just that, well they played it their previous show before this one. And I REALLY like the new stuff, especially Corn Bread, but I was looking forward to the songs that I already know and love at the show. David needs to get that new album out soon so we all can be familar with the new material. All said and done, it was still a great DMB preformance and I can't wait till my next one in Florida.

I have been going to dave showsfor a long time now, probably about 8 years. this was the first concert i have been a little disappointed about. there was a lot of new stuff and there wasnt much feel throughout the crowd. i watched a lot of people around me and most were sitting down or playing with cell phones. i miss the days where everyone was up and dancing and screaming!! those were the days. i liked the new songs but there needs to be a good mix of new and old, through all the albums. grey street and crush were the only songs around my seat that got everyone up. i hope next year will have lots of energy.

Though the boys didn't play the songs that most of the radio-hit hungry crowd were looking for, the great selection of new unreleased songs was something refreshing to see at a Dave Matthews Band concert. It's nights like these when you know that a new album is on the way in the not too distant future and sooon most of the songs that no one knew or heard of now will soon be the songs that people are clamoring to hear the crew from Charlottesville jam-away too. BTW, the band seemed to have a good flow and there seemed to be a bit of energy that really moved from the stage out into the crowd, and Dave's voice was great though a bit raspy in some parts (whose voice wouldn't be after exuding so much energy and excitement into every song. Good not Great show.

Ok wasn't the best show at Star Lake I've ever seen (last year night 1 and 2003, either night are still in my top 3) However, this show was on fire. Seek up opener was amazing, I always like this song and I like it more and more when I hear it live. Stand Up songs were actually enjoyable (You Might Die Trying especially). #27 is a pretty sweet tune, I really dug it. DDTW was amazing, I've seen it a coupla times and this maybe the best. Cornbread by D&T in Radio City was good, Cornbread by full band was AMAZING (one of my new favorites) I really dug the intro to shotgun. Sweet Up And Down... all I can say, AMAZING!!! Crush was on tonight. Closer was awesome. It's been a while since I've seen Watchtower and the ABI--> Watchtower was awesome. I had a great time, see all you Ants in Cuyahoga!

I called the Seek Up opener..amazing version. Boyd was really feeling this song, as well as bayou. the re-worked YMDT is very good too, love rashawn's part at the end.
#27 rocks, as does corn bread. I tweaked out when sweet up and down started. amazing to see that song live again. Crush was great too. And what else can you say about some devil, ab intro, and watchtower??
everyone who is whining about the energy of this show, and the fact that there were 5 new songs need to sober up. sister mid-set may have been weak, but this show was amazing. I was in section 6 row DD, and everyone around me was way into it.. I can't tell you how happy I was to see a show without ants marching OR crash. great show.

The show was great, but I didn't like what they've done with Shotgun. It still needs work. I love Cornbread and the Idea of You. Not a lot of flow with the show, a lot of stops between songs; but they are working a lot of newer material right now, so I guess thats to be expected. And I'm sorry, I am not a big Watchtower fan.

Start the review off with the TAILGATING...great great time. We got in just as they opened the gates and we around alot of good people. Put down a number of funnels, but the highlight was the great people playing their guitars and horns, signing DMB in front of a ton of other tailgaters. I grabbed my guitar and joined in the fun and just want to say thanks to those there. I saw some pictures of us posted on ANTS :-)
I loved the show mainly because of how many new/unrealeased songs they played. #27 and Cornbread are great, and some of the new ones from '06 sound even better. Sweet Up & Down was my highlight, and loved Watchtower to end. ONLY disappointment was that they seemed to play a little abbreviated this year, as the show capped around 2 hours 20 minutes.

The band sounded awesome... at least when I could hear them. Great renditions of Grey Street, Too Much, Crush, Louisiana Bayou ect. Unfortunately from where I was standing on the lawn I couldn't hear the first two numbers (Seek Up and You Might Die Trying) as well as a few others later in the show. This was because the sound crew forgot to turn on the speakers for the lawn section. The audio mix was off which made it very difficult to hear Dave's vocals. This problem was especially prevalent during the two songs Dave played by himself (most importantly Sister) I couldn't even hear the lyrics or guitar over the crowd noise. Later on I did manage to move up close enough to hear a great version of Stay. However, I left before the encore (something I never do, ever) because I was pissed off about the sound issues and the drunks messing around pushing people over. The video monitors also had display issues.
I'd just like to say, great job Dave, Carter, Leroi, Boyd, Steffan, Butch and Rashawn! They sounded amazing. The new stuff was great and I loved Crush, Grey Street and Too Much... however the sound issues were inexcusable. The band's management needs to fire whoever's in charge of the show's production and hire someone that knows what they're doing. I love DMB and can't wait to see them again, hopefully I can hear a full show instead of half of one!

DMB Review Star Lake 2007
Pre-show ~ Tailgating with Fellow ants was an amazing time. Got to meet a lot of you people for the 1st time and I must say you made the experience very enjoyable. Thanks to Lyndsay for getting it all together, & Joe M. for passing out the window decals!
Showtime
Seek up~ enjoyable flow to the song. Boyd was the key in this tune. Is it just me or does it always seems like Reshawn & LeRoi do not care? Anyways it was the longest Jam of the night. Song ended @ 8:40 EST. Mellow and smooth
You Might Die Trying ~ good song to follow seek up. Moving the pace from mellow to a little faster and with some energy. I was hoping we weren’t going to get a Stand up night.
Hunger For The Great Light ~ Oh gees more Stand Up, at least the pace of the songs is increasing. People sang along and it seems to be a favorite with Dave.
#27 ~ first time I’ve heard it live and it sounds amazing. This has a lot of potential here. I like how Dave started it off and then band came in after then near the end the band stopped and Dave finished it solo. Pretty cool.
Don’t Drink The Water ~ Finally a true energy song. This is the song where you turn around and look at the lawn. They went nuts! I love how angry this song is. Dave’s whaling @ the end was pretty cool too.
Corn Bread ~ WoW a full band cornbread was amazing. Usually when a new song come on people run for beer like when they did for # 27 but people stuck around and really were digging the song. This is a feel good song.
The Idea Of You ~ this is the part of the show I didn’t like. I know they are trying out new stuff but come one. Three out of the first 7 songs were new? The other two songs from Stand up? It seemed a little weak in crowd when this came on. Give us something to enjoy!
Anyone Seen The Bridge? ~ I like the stutter stop in the beginning. Stephan rocked his solo
>
Too Much ~ nice slow down in the middle. They went even slower then they did when I saw them Chicago. Crowd favorite.
Sister ~ Another new song… crowd got really quite to hear Dave talk about the song. I don’t know about all these new songs at one show! Good song though very personal.
Grey Street ~ A good tempo song here. Crowd needed a pick up after sister. I’m starting to get tired of this one though. Might be time to shelf it for a while.
Louisiana Bayou ~ A standard set list song. Still doesn’t feel the same without Robert Randolph there. Dave plays this well and Boyd was all over the place.
Shotgun ~ Another new song! that’s five new songs at one show. I couldn’t believe it. Dave didn’t seem to happy with his guitar in the middle of the song. I personally believe this song is boring. No pop yet to it. Maybe someday it will.
Sweet Up & Down ~ amazing song. I haven’t heard it since June 2000 at Riverbend. Everyone in the band seems to like this song. not a lot of fans remember this song though. What a shame.
Crush ~ Stutter stop in the beginning was cool. I thought Stephan played the wrong song @ first. Other then that it was pretty simple. We all sang soo yay!
Stay ~ typical closer. Fans liked it.
Encore:
Some Devil ~ What a great Solo song. This was the best song of the night IMO. Dave nailed it while everyone just listens. This is such a dark & deep song.
American Baby Intro ~ Nice Jam and when dave screams it sends chills down your spine. Band jammed this one out perfectly. Good job!
All Along The Watchtower ~ Stephan’s solo was amazing. Butch rocked this one too. Great closer.
Overall: I have to give this show a C. this was very disappoint set list compared to Hartford. Joe M. and I talked before the show how we were keeping out expectations low so we wouldn’t be heart broken. Well I was heart broken. Someone should file a police report because the fans at Star Lake we’re robbed. 26% unreleased tracks followed by 21% from stand up. Northing from Under the table & dreaming really hurt. 5 new songs @ a place like Star lake is inexcusable.
Hope everyone got home safe. 2 hour drive from the venue back to Cleveland wasn’t bad. I had a great time meeting all you guys and hope to see you @ Blossom on the 20th.

But the band was really on, they really looked like they were having a lot of fun (except Leroi)
SUAD was a highlight, I love how #27 and Cornbread sound. Sister was a treat, but it wasn't a great mid-set song. DDTW came out of nowehre and was hot.
All in all, the show was much better then it looks on paper. With a couple setlist changes and a better crowd, this could have been great!

Just got back. I had a great time. Tons of energy from the band. Here's a song-by-song review:
Seek Up- I called this and was psyched. Unfortunatly, the sound wasn't very good for most of the tune, and Roi's solo was barely audible. However, Boyd's solo and Dave's wailing gave me chills, and Carter was solid as well. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Die Trying- Fantastic. This tune has gotten so much better from 05. Crowd dug it, Roi was on, and it was a blast.
Hunger- More sound issues. Oh well. I don't like this tune, but it was hard to not sing along with the whole crowd. Plus, you could tell Dave was digging it as well.
#27- Love this tune. Crowd gave it a decent reception. I dug it a lot. Needs a little more to it to really put it over the top.
Dont Drink The Water- Arguably song of the night. Crowd loved it, Dave sounded fantastic, and it caught me off guard with no intro.
Corn Bread- Crowd liked this the best of the new tunes. Best version I've heard to date. Boyd and the horns were far more involved, which made it much better. This is a keeper.
Idea of You- I liked it. Carter's drum part is far more bearable live in person. dave sounded great as well. I really enjoyed, as did the crowd.
ASTB/Too much- Awesome. ASTB was great. Rashawn tore it up, and Stefan had a sweet effect on his line. Too Much was very good, as I dig the super-slow breakdown. They rocked it out at the end.
Sister- Better than I expected in the midset. The stage was awesome- it looked like skyscrapers and a nice city scene. The backup vocals were nice. Good tune.
Grey Street- Great version. The horns were awesome. Roi and Rashawn exchanged lines before they played overtop of one another. Rashawn especially was fantastic on this.
Bayou- Overplayed as it is, it was awesome. They nailed it from top to bottom. Boyd was on fire, and doing his thing. Meanwhile, the horns on this tune are really groovy. The crowd loved it, and it might have been the best received tune of the night.
Shotgun- Huge surprise! It sounded great. It's such a beautiful song. Dave's vocals really put this tune over the top. Crowd wasn't as into though.... but all they seemed to want was Two Step.
Sweet Up and Down- Lots of fun. Carter tears this song up. That's all that needs to be said.
Crush- Song of the night. Crowd loved it. Boyd was a little off on his solo, but the horns more than made up for it. Roi and Rashawn exchanged licks again, and it was sick. Rashawn stole the show at this point. The crowd was digging him. Roi sounded fine however. And of course, Carter was awesome.
Stay- Repetitive? Yeah. Fun? You bet. Corwd was into it, as was Dave. I really enjoyed it. band was tight on this one.
Some Devil- Beautiful tune. Dave hit most of the notes. I loved it.
ABI- Good version. Dave sounded good, despite making me feel like he'll sound like crap after playing tunes like this.
Watchtower- My parents made me leave after ABI so I could only hear from the parking lot. Sounded solid. Roi sounded awesome from where I was.
All in all, good show. Lots of energy, and some great tunes, new and old. Can't wait til next year!

Dave played a lot of newer stuff, which I thought was awesome. Shotgun was the song my girlfriend and I really wanted to hear, along with The Idea of You. I also really enjoyed American Baby Intro, Sweet Up and Down and Die Trying. Rashawn adds a great element to the band, especially in Die Trying. Overall a great show in my opinion. You can't beat Watchtower as a closing song.

Seek up as the opener was the highlight...rest of the show pretty standard Summer tour stuff. Dont care much for "Sister", though it has become a tour standard over the past year.

I get the impression that many there were disappointed not to hear the regular rigmarole of DMB classics at this show. I personally liked getting a show full of songs that are either older unreleased songs or new and still evolving. The fact that the set was peppered with a few tried and true songs made it all the better. As a personal bonus, I got to hear some songs that I’ve never heard played live before. The band sounded great, but when do they not? Boyd especially was on fire.
Some highlights of the evening:
Seek Up – a fantastic opener, although I don’t think that those around me knew the song. I’ve always loved it, and after hearing it live I love it even more.
Don’t Drink the Water – high energy from the band, well played in my opinion
#27 & Corn Bread – great to hear these newbies, I love the direction the new stuff is taking
ASTB-Too Much – a crowd favorite and it showed, the whole place was jamming
Grey Street & Crush – personal favs, it was great to hear them both in one show
Sweet Up and Down – after hearing of its return in NJ, I was hoping to hear it for myself. I wasn’t getting my hopes up too high though. I was carrying on when it began to play. Again, I don’t think those around me knew this song and probably thought I was nuts.
All Along The Watchtower – great closer, very high energy from the band and the crowd, the whole place was singing and jamming
My only gripe is that the concert seemed shorter than in prior years. I would've preferred one less song from Stand Up (Bayou I can do without) and perhaps a jamming Ants or Two Step thrown into the mix. UTTAD also didn’t get any love at this show. I left wishing for an N2 at Star Lake so I could hear even more.

I heard so many people bitch about oh Dave didn't play this song or that song... that I found myself extremely pleased that he didn't play them. Fuck all you haters. all anyone ever does on ants anymore is bitch and bitch about how shitty the setlists/shows are when they really aren't. he could play every single song you wanted and it still wouldnt be good enough. or else your one of the ones where he needed to play just ONE song (your favorite song) and he didnt so the whole show sucked. omg dave didnt play satellite or crash! how could he do that! well fyi if you were at post-gazette last year... or many of the shows after that point in the 2006 tour (and paid attention) you would have heard songs like the idea of you, shotgun, sister, etc. the only new material is #27 and cornbread and those are both pretty decent songs. sorry to those of you that didnt get ur album/radio songs and wasted 50 bucks but I sure didnt mind! cheers to creativity and open-minded music critics... apparently there aren't many of us.

This was my 10th show...not of the tour obviously but over the last 9 years. I'd have to say...this show was OKAY...and in comparison to previous years....forgetable. There were no true what I would call "highlights" from this show. Very slow start with Seek Up through YMDT.
On the positive notes... #27 and Cornbread have developed nicely over the past few shows. Idea of You sounds great and lyrics sound like they're getting more consistent.
Down points: Shotgun...had half the pavillion sitting down, and disconnected from the song. Sister...followed a very intense version of Too Much...which got the crowd very up and down... Sweet Up and Down...felt like how Proudest Monkey felt last year. Excited to hear it after the long sabbatical...but in the end just a memory of a once amazing song.
If there were any highlights it was hearing Some Devil...he played it very well last night. Typical set list...No real good "jam songs", everything felt routine with no real "passion" in what they did...I'd give it a 6 out of 10 for everything.

The show was not really that good in terms of what I or my 3 buddies drove 5 hours to hear, but I will say for what DMB played, MUSICIAN WISE, they played it really well. I thought the show was off to a good start with seek up but was expecting my face to be melted by the 3rd song at the latest. Cornbread was by far one of the highlights for me, I never really heard that song before and I thought in concert it sounded so sweet. I was dancin around with a 10 ft radius around me on that one.
Sweet up and down was a big surprise for me i haven't heard that on concert since giants stadium in 2000.
Some devil (one of dave's better solo songs) was also a nice way to kick off the encore, ABI and Watchtower were also very well played.
All in all it was a great road trip with my best friends, I just wish I got to hear Nancies or #41. I haven't heard those in a while. Im glad no two step was played, although I did hear some chants. It's getting old as a closer for me, but I guess some people just can't get enough of it.
I enjoy hearing unreleased music because it inspires me, I just think right now the set lists are not strong. To be blunt about it, the STAND UP ALBUM SUCKED! say it ruled go ahead its your opinion but its getting old to me, and honestly i think most dave fans would like a break and hear some older songs from the mid 90's with some new stuff mixed in like cornbread, #27 and sweet comebacks like SUAD or maybe something like Let you Down or Kit kat Jam(never heard those)
I decided to let DMB have another chance so I decided to drive to SPAC on Tuesday and see what happens.

Here's mine: .
Seek Up: Can never complain about hearing this. Not too short, not too long. Clocked in at about 15 mins. Great.
You Might Die Trying: I was expecting this, but wanted to hear since I have never gotten to. Great performance, love the outro and people were digging it.
Hunger: Utilized the lights for the first time. Short, sweet, rocking and was hoping that SU was out of the way.
#27: meh. Solid song, but kinda let people down as many didnt konw it and just sat down. I think this song has potential but is lacking something. Not sure what, but its pretty good thus far.
DDTW: This was a curveball. Didnt catch the guitar switch and was expecting either Cornbread or Still Water first. Love this song.
Cornbread: Up until tonight I didnt really like D&T Cornbread and never heard it full band. I fucking LOVE this song now. Funky with a countryesque twang. Its quite brillant. The crowd loved it and was dancing unlike #27. One of the highlights of the night for me.
IOY: Standard but I love this song.
ASTB>TM: Slow down is soooo slow. Dave even sang some lyrics super slow pretty entertaining, crowd loved it.
Sister: good song, but poorly placed in the set.
Grey Street: meh. alright. nothing spectacular about this version.
LA Bayou: As soon as I saw the electric i knew i was screwed. However, I will admit this was the most smoking version I have ever heard. THe end jam was so fucking unreal (OMG TEH ENERGYYS). Unfortunately, this song got the loudest cheering of the night. Crowd absolutely loved it.
Shotgun: FUCK YES. shorter, but I was dying to hear this.
SUAD: Really wanted to hear this even though I dont really particularly care for it. It was rocking though. Although Dave seemed to fumble through most the lyrics and I often had no idea what he was singing.
Crush: Great tune as always. Roi was pathetic on this though.
Stay: PUke.
Some Devil: One of the other highlights. Was hoping for this instead of Gravedigger. Flawless performance.
ABI: standard.
Watchtower: Absolutely unreal. Great closer, and had the place rocking. Highlight for sure.
Overall my thoughts:
1. Show ranks probably a 7/10 for me.
2. Had a great time, but dissapointed that there were no debuts
3. Parking was a bitch and a half
4. Roi was almost non-existant at this show. Utterly pathetic. RR showed him up on almost every duel solo. Roi's solos on Crush were like 4 notes and then he would switch. Dissappointed in his contributions.
5. Boyd is the fucking man.
6. RR is a great addition
7. Hopefully by Riverbend they are switching up the sets a little more.
8. Some Devil E1 rules
9. and if you're a Cornbread hater, listen to it fullband, because its fucking nuts.
10. I want to kill the couple in front of me in Section 4 who managed to makeout and dry hump the entire show. You provided me with the opportunity to watch DMB and a porno at once....
Good day.

As I can agree with most people that this was not the best show I have heaerd at Star Lake, I disagree with the fact that people were upset with all of the new stuff. What better way to find out which of your new stuff will sell records than to play them live. If you think about the past couple of albums, we hadn't really heard the songs pre-album release...a few songs here a few song there. And most DMB fans were not too happy with the last couple of albums. I guess I am digressing from the actual show itself. But that is just something for everyone to keep in mind. The show it self was still amazing becasue it was a DMB show, regardless of if it was the best I have heard at Star Lake or not. The band seemed to have started earlier this year than I can remember, which led to longer jams, and I am O.K. with that. I took a few people to the show this year that had never been to a DMB show before and they were absolutely blown away. The only song that I was expecting to hear tonight (just because I think I have heard it every year at Star Lake) was Two Step, but I am deffinitely not disappointed at all, and I cannot wait until next year (praying for two shows).

So I'm posting this after 61 other reviews so I doubt anyone will actually read it, but I figured I'd still throw my two cents out there.
First off, I'll agree that if you were a casual fan, you'd probably be disappointed in the fact that the band played a lot of new stuff. And I just don't mean Stand Up new, I mean unreleased new. I was looking forward to all the new stuff since I had heard it from the tapes so far this year, and getting to hear it live is so much better than on the tapes.
But I also thought the band did a really good job of balancing old and new. And the band had a lot of energy and played the songs very well. So overall, it was a good show. I only go to about one show a year, and I can't complain about a DMB show, and this one was no exception.
The only thing I noticed is that the songs and the setlist was fairly standard and predictable. There wasn't really a new jam to an old song or a different set list. If you've been following the set list up to this point, it was pretty easy to tell what song was going to come next. I was hoping that we'd get to hear a new song or a new transition from song to song or even a new jam. And like others have pointed out, since there was only one show in Pittsburgh this year, I really expected a little more surprise. Although I guess if I hadn't been listening to all the shows up to this point, it would have been a pretty surprising show with all the new tunes.
One thing I noticed that no one seems to have commented on: Boyd was wearing his jeans extra low on Friday night. So much so that his butt crack was showing at various points on some of his solos (which were pretty damn awesome). I think at one point Dave and Stefan were laughing at him because of how much crack he was showing.

To begin with, whoever was running the soundboard needs to be shot. The band started out with Seek Up and my friends and I couldn't even tell what song it was. "Beer time" was the general consensus then.
When we returned the sound was fixed, but only minorly, as one could tell which song was being played, but was unable to hear the vocals.
Someone must have finally put that lousy sound man 6 feet under where he belonged, and the sound was fixed to the point where it should have been since the beginning.
Once the sound was tuned, I believed everything was right and good with the world. But I was wrong.
Something deep and dark was lurking in the shadows. And by that I mean new material. Dave
disappointed me by playing TOO many new songs, which in my opinion isn't a good show. I am of the ilk that wants to be able to belt out the lyrics along with Dave, and dance my ass off while doing so.
Don't get me wrong, new material is great! I love to see they are working on new stuff and are comfortable enough to play these songs in front of audiences, but I had very high expectations stemming from the last Post Gazette show, the two-day set last August. And frankly my expectations were not met anywhere close.
Granted there were plenty of songs within the set list to sing along with, such as Don't Drink the Water, Crush, Louisiana Bayou, Grey Street (one of my favorites) and Too Much (which I must mention was probably the best version I've heard in the 6 Dave shows I've seen) but new song after new song is no way to debut this material.
With the new material that chance to feel like I was somehow fueling Dave's energy by singing along was denied from me for the vast majority of this show.
No Two Step, no Lie in Our Grave, no Warehouse for heavens sake. These songs might be considered the "radio play" songs as was mentioned in one of the previous reviews, but so what? What good is a concert where you can't sing along with the band? I mean seriously whats with all these songs like Cornbread and Shotgun? If I wanted to hear those I'd buy the CD when it came out. This was not Dave.
