DMB Fan Finds Some InspirationPosted by Jake Vigliotti in Charity at 10:16am on Wednesday, Dec 8th, 2010
The Dave Matthews Band has been one of the most charitable musical acts out there. Their fans are not too far behind. One fan in particular has taken that an extra step.
Kevin Bailey started his own charity, The Sky Is Not Limited, as an effort to bring clean water to Africa. You may have seen a thread sticked in the Tour Section of the forum during tour season promoting a contest they ran for an iPad. The charity recently completed their goal of getting a clean water system to Tanzania. A Documentary on his adventures in Africa is on its way "soon". Kevin tells the rest of the story on how he got to this point and how you facilitated his efforts here.
UPDATE: You can now view Kevin's documentary chronicling his African adventures here.
UPDATE #2: The Sky is Not Limited, which got it start fundraising at DMB shows, is in Africa this week to install two more solar powered well projects. The projects will be located in Tanzania in the villages of Kimbiji and Mkokozi. This is the first water well in the village of Kimbiji. The Sky is Not Limited will provide the solar equipment to provide rural electricity for the well pumps. Money has been raised by the organization through fans at concerts in collaboration with Reverb and other fund raisers. The wells will be drilled by the Tanzanian based non-profit organization, African Reflections Foundation. To follow the progress of the projects, you can follow The Sky is Not Limited on Facebook.
UPDATE #3: (2012) Kevin headed back to Africa to facilitate another solar pump, check out the latest African Drill set up.
