Samantha Farrell - LeRoi Moore Produced Album Available via iTunesPosted by Jake Vigliotti in Band Side Projects at 9:15am on Tuesday, Oct 6th, 2009
Through a friend, LeRoi Moore became aware of Samantha Farrell, a soulful singer with a beautiful voice. It was then that Moore decided he would produce Farrell's next project. Moore spent all of his off days on the 2008 tour laying out tracks for what he deemed his most "important" project. Prior to Roi's ATV accident, the vast majority of the album Luminous was complete. Even after Roi's accident, he kept detailed and copious notes on what he wanted for the "old school Jazz record" sound for the album.
Moore kept the album to the basics; there is no digital at all on the recording. Not even reverb. The goal of the sound is to capture that smokey jazz feel from the 1950's or 1960's, and it sounds like Moore accomplished that. His real goal, however, was just to get Farrell to enjoy her work. "I just want her to love music," Moore said.
LeRoi Moore is the producer of Luminous, now available via iTunes (iTunes link). The horn play laid out by Moore is performed by John D'Earth and Bobby Read, long time jazz musicians from Charlottesville, VA. You can sample some of Farrell's sound via her MySpace page, or you can watch a video of the song Fade Away on YouTube. Additionally, you Facebookers can take a shot at her facebook page.
