Ants Podcast 50 - New Trends and Shotcalling

The tour is now finally into two-night stands with Camden and SPAC and we get to see what kind of variety the band is playing. New trends have started to emerge among the acoustic set, the encore, and with the guests. As usual comment on if we want these new trends to Stay or Leave. Also we do a bit of shotcalling, as we recorded this podcast just before the latest two-night stand at Deercreek (read as Klipsh for casual fans). We donít want to spoil it, but letís just say we hope we didnít Let You Down.

Just as a note, pretty sure the little improv after Spaceman n2 SPAC was the same riff dave was playing during the long "improv" from n1. Then Dave makes a joke to the band about it, which I can't quite make out. Really dig that little diddy

I love listening to the podcast. I was at Deer Creek this weekend and I can't wait to hear your 2 cents about that!

My other note is that I'd love to hear Smooth Rider again, it's been years since I've heard it. Just said that because you made a negative remark about them playing that at Camden.

"Thank You chants happened that one time for about 9 minutes in Colorado"

Hey now. Alpine 2008 says otherwise

Some pretty great things have evolved this tour...Typical and BOWA getting lots of plays, a couple of unreal encores like BOWA > Pig (that actually happened). Let You Down has been played twice. A Dave solo Spoon. Beach Ball has gotten several plays. These are the kinds of things that whiners harp on in the first week of the tour. I'm sure they've moved on to whining about something else now.

I agree with the bolded, but why does it take them so long to evolve the sets? You're in NJ, no problem for you (other than the obvious) - the 'great things' start to gain momentum as the tour moves into the northeast. Texas and the rest of the south get much more generic sets and weaker performances as a result and I think that's where a lot of the whining comes in. Include me in the group of whiners, but it's too easy to call us Southerners whiners when you're within a few hundred miles of the mid-tour venues (iow, you'd be whining too). Just sayin'.

No more whining - my new model is no shows before mid-June.

Um guys...I know I probably missed this somewhere but what is that 'Remember Me' track you played during one of the breaks? Was that part of an early VITR improv? When was it played? thx

Pretty sure what you are referring to is the improv jam before Grey Street N1 SPAC this year. First impression was he was saying "Remember Rain" but I could be way off.

Ah thanks man....improv. Rain or me, one of the two or both I think.

Is that improv related in any way to VITR?

Nope definately different, Dave was on guitar too. He also teased the same song N2 after Spaceman n2

Your assumption that everyone in the lawn is partying and no one is paying attention is way wrong. I have been a fan for 15+ years and I was so stoked for the show. I was very into the show and everyone around me was too. I was singing along with every song.... Unfortunately I couldn't afford the seats I really wanted, but I'd rather have been in the lawn than not there at all!

Night 1 at alpine I was in the lawn and I agree that it was a huge party (not a good one). people sitting/standing right on top of us. people were yelling and screaming out of time and key, people so drunk they passed out during the electric set. why even buy a ticket if you are going to just sleep during the show?? I dont understand. and I did not care for it at all. My people are in the pavillion and pit.

Night 2 however was a night and day difference. It was much more relaxed and open. everyone was just having a good time. about 90% of the undesirables from the previous night were gone.
