Just a suggestion- lay out the specifics of what you need in really plain terms, get your volunteers lined up to be in certain places at specific times- post it all here so we can see what you're going for, and I'm sure once we have that framework, a lot of ants will hop on board. It's just hard to get a feel for what you want to do. I know you want to make a documentary, but is it about the Dave Matthews Band at the Gorge, or is it about the way friendships form at camp, or people going to the Gorge specifically to gather with their dmb buddies? Is it about the travel on the way? Is it about adapting to honey buckets? There are a lot of things you could spotlight, and I think I am just confused as to which of those you want to address to make a cohesive documentary, which makes me reluctant to get on board.

So something like:

I need:
5 HD cameras
2 professional cameras
10 cameramen
3 people to upload footage back at camp
5 people to agressively advertise shirts for funding

We are visiting:
Wildhorse at 12 noon on Day one
Moses Lake Best Western at noon on day one
The columbia River by ________ at 2 pm Day two
The lots at 5pm on all 3 days
The lots at midnight on all 3 days
(etc etc etc)

Of course, your notes will have to be more in-depth than what I've put down here, but to make a great documentary about all of us as fans that head to the Gorge, it would be hard to just send people out with cameras and no plan. A couple people, yes, but all of the filiming...I don't think it would work.

I wish you luck- if I were going to the Gorge, I would help out.

heres an idea- go to charlottesville and get some shots of Millers. Where it all started.

From there follow the band in a virtual tour following a map.
Hit the major venues and get pregame shots with fan interviews etc...
some history of the venue, then the setlist that night. If you're really serious maybe you can talk to someone in DMB mgmt and get some shots for that show.

Make it like a road trip following DMB, ending up in the mecca also known as the Gorge. Too late for 09' though.

Wow, if you guys are doing anything at SPAC next year, or anywhere else in the NE the Toupstown gang happens to get to gether, I'd love to be involved to some extent. I really miss everyone I had the pleasure to hang-out with during 2008!!!

EDIT - Say, does anyone have footage of Brian meeting his girlfriend at the Gorge? I'm so mad at myself for missing that one!

oh yes I meant to follow the fans following DMB. find a group of people who will be at every one of those shows, and have a regular segment with that crowd, what they think of the venue, what they expect to hear that night, how the tour is shaping up- like a tv series that has episodes at each venue. ok, so this i know is straying slightly off your topic, but i think it might could lead somewhere... i've noticed that at the shows i've been to... each venue has a different feel... the crowds are ALWAYS different... if you were to follow DMB... highlight certain groups of people tailgating, getting info on them, interview them... say you do that at some high-spots and low-spots for example... DEF. go to spac and alpine... but also hit places that aren't quite as hyped, such as Raleigh NC... or Birmingham AL. and sum everything up with the gorge, and toupstown...

through the course of the movie, have DMB... explain about the band... talk to the select group of fans ur going to film, and ask them things like, favorite song, how many shows, favorite venue, farthest distance traveled, where does DMB rank.. etc etc...
you could incorporate photos, and video footage of both outside the venue, and inside (possibly idk about the logistics of this)

anywho, i know i totally side tracked, but i maybe i helped in some way.

Hey, I have a certificate in sound design from NYU I earned in Dec07. I have Reason and Pro Tools on my PC in my mini 'studio'... let me know if you need any audio work during post-production. I've got some great song ideas, and I would LOVE to have this project as my first post-production work since finishing my class!

(Sorry, I have zero connections regarding DMB, though. I'm still dying to catch one of Carter's sticks after an encore!)
